1. an atempt to deny refugees there right of return
Belal ,   Atlanta USA   (09.06.10)
This is an attempt to deny the palestinian who were expelled the right of return, also to kick the ones there out as well. No one on earth have the right to tell the owner of the land you no longer belong here. the fight goes on forever then. Gotta find a better solution than that.
2. why does Israel need the permission from Egypt all the UN?
zionist forever   (09.06.10)
Israel was created to be a jewish state thats what the UN voted on in 1947 when they voted in favor of partition. There are over 50 UN member states who define themselves as being muslim states If Iran wants to be known as an islamic republic then good luck to them and if Israel wants to be recognized as jewish state then thats its right. Egypt is just another arab trouble maker and trying to rouse up the arabs in Israel. Get palestinians wanting a state on one side, arabs in Israel wanting an end to the concept of the jewish state on the other it creates instability for Israel
3. What about the Copts?
Gee ,   Zikron Yaakov   (09.06.10)
Egypt declares itself a Muslim state and forbids the immigration of non-Muslims and had a sizable non-Muslim minority until their ethnic cleansing for the past 50 years. Let's address those issues.
4. The Jewish State, The Islamic State or...
Persian CAT   (09.06.10)

7. Cairo worries
Mae White ,   Tel Aviv   (09.06.10)
Mubarak should worry about other things. Israel was always and remains a Jewish state.
8. No. 1 Belal
NYC Girl   (09.06.10)
Are you aware of the fact that nearly 1 million Jews were expelled from Arab countries? So when you find out which, if any, of those countries would be willing to allow them to reclaim their homes and businesses, perhaps you'd be good enough to let us know, since my husband's family left a considerable amount of money and property behind when they were forced to flee Iraq...and I'm sure they'd like to have it back.
9. Arab Republic of Egypt
Dave   (09.06.10)
This is the "official" name of Egypt. Should non-Arabs there be worried? Yes, ask the Coptics.
10. Is this a joke?
nr ,   los angeles, usa   (09.06.10)
That was the whole purpose of the UN division of Palestine in 1948 - one Jewish state, one Arab state. Is this guy an idiot? When are these people gonna grow up?
11. of all of egypt's problems, israel is the very least
mike ,   israel (formerly usa   (09.06.10)
but if they didn't have the jewish state to blame and obsess over, they would realize that the true source of their misery is their own backwardness. and they can't have that.
12. Only recognizing Jewish Israel will end the conflict.
Dr. L. Brnd ,   San Diego, USA   (09.06.10)
The appearance and reality, 1947-2010, is that the Arab world refuses to have a Jewish state in its midst with ANY borders. The Arab world must explicitly recognize that Israel has the same right to exist as a Jewish state that Iran, Libya, Saudi Arabia and Nigeria have to be Islamic states. By doing so, the Arab and Muslim world must formally reject that they have any right to dictate the civil rights of Muslims and Arabs living in Israel, or become their protectors - that would plant the seeds for a new war, not end the current one. Notwithstanding the fact that Gheit ignores that Muslims in Israel enjoy far more civil rights than Jews in the Arab world, or (for that matter) Arabs in the Arab world. This is the core of the conflict - there can be no compromise on Israel's demand to be recognized as the national homeland and State of the Jewish people - as the price for agreeing to a Palestinian Arab state - which by the way, demands that it has the right to be a racist, exclusivist Arab state whereno Jews are allowed to live or own land (like Jordan, Pakistan and most other Muslim republics). Non-exceptance of Jewish Israel would constitute just another worthless Arab "hudna", and there won't be a PA state in exchange for that. Any backing off by Obama of "2-states for 2-people", requiring recognizing Israel as the Jewish state the UN explicitly demanded - Bibi will properly pull the plug on talks, and the US voters will pull the plug on Obama's presidency. "2 states" can not mean one binational Jewish-Arab state and one exclusivist PA Arab state.
13. You know #1
nr ,   los angeles, usa   (09.06.10)
That Palestinian Arabs are the only refugees in the world who pass their status down to their descendents. My in-laws were refugees from Hungary (via Auschwitz) and my husband isn't considered a refugee. And they didn't have the right to return to their home either, because someone else was living in it. That's the penalty for losing. You can cry on the shoulders of hundred of thousands, and now millions of Jews from Arabs countries who lost everything in 1948 as well. Too bad your crowd didn't want to take care of you. In the 1950s, all Pals who could prove ownership (not that many) were offered compensation by the Israeli govt.
14. Hypocrite
Juda ,   Baltimore, USA   (09.06.10)
What will happen in a palestinian state to the jewish population will they be allowed to stay?
15. Aboul Gheit
Spencer ,   Israel   (09.06.10)
The FM of Egypt should know that the arabs who live in the Jewish State of Israel and far better off and happier that the majority of arabs who live in his country. His comparing Israel's demand that Israel be recognised as a Jewish State to Iran's decision to call itself 'Islamic Republic'; shows just how stupid this man is. Mr. Gheit, the late President Sadat (a great man) and the Late King Hussein recognised Israel as a Jewish State, as did the civilised world in 1948. Nothing has changed. Israel will ALWAYS be a Jewish State. With an attitude like yours Mr. Gheit, there will never be peace between Israel and her arab neighbours and the faulty is entirely the fault of the arabs.
16. Anybody
Sagi   (09.06.10)
who did not see this coming is blind, deaf, dumb and stupid. This is the start of a demand for a bi-national State. New anthem, new flag etc. I told you so and we did nothing to prevent it. It will eventaully happen, we have already crossed the point of no return.
17. to # 5
Belal ,   Atlanta USA   (09.06.10)
Are you serious ! or just playing dump. or may be you dont know much about the history of what happened. well, in 1948, some were driven out by force, some evacuated and had there house demolished or burned (like what just happened last week in soem villages in Najjav desert. some saw the killing in neigboring villages and scared off thinking they will come back home the next day....etc. there was a delibrate attemp to drive people out one way or another and bring Jews by ships from other places.... please read more about the history to learn and compare injustice done to you by Germans and compare to what you did to us....And now, Isreal wants to have us accept Isarel as Jewish state to get rid of the rest of the palestinians and avoid the right of return for the others who were kicked out.
18. To #1 Belal
Daniel   (09.06.10)
There is no right of return...most of those arabs left on their own, and what about the 600 thousand Jews that left and were kicked out of the arab countries, their properties seized, what about their compensation and right of return? That right of return argument is BS. Hypocrite
19. read the last line....
nachum   (09.06.10)
and understand the whole issue
20. :: A “Jewish state”?
Matty Groves ,   Fairport   (09.06.10)
Israel can demand to be recognized as a “Jewish state” all it wants but the simple fact of the matter is that it is nobody is under any onus to recognize it as such. Most countries couldn’t care less what Israel calls itself and they are certainly not bound to recognize any such distinction. As for the Arab countries, well they must be quite bemused that Israel thinks so highly of their opinions that it can only feel secure within itself if it gets their recognition. The truth is regardless how Israel defines itself it will never be a “Jewish state” for the following possible reasons: 1) Israelis can’t even agree on who is a Jew. 2) The Israeli population will always have a non-Jewish minority. 3) Israelis will eventually evolve to a state where Judaism no longer matters under a One State solution.
21. Israel in the year 2050
Raptor   (09.06.10)
which, by the way, is not too far down the line. 4 million Haredim, 2 million orthodox, 4 million Arabs and a minority of seculars who foolishly chose to stay. Thank all the Gods that My time will be up by then and I shall be pushing daisies.
22. to # 8 and #13
Belal ,   Atlanta USA   (09.06.10)
before 1948, palestinians moslim, chrisian and Jews (palestinian Jews) were living in peace and happy together. only after the zionist came in and wanted to make a country for only Jews, that is went problem started , injustice toward palestinians. then and after that you started seeing Jews coming from diff arab states and losing things. every should go back to where came from and every body should get his property back. And no mather how long it takes, Israel as it is now will never last very long. the end is near no matter how power full you get, eventually as history teach us what goes up must drop down to earth again.
23. Yes nr, he IS an idiot. Or thinks we are idiots.
Raymond in DC ,   Washington, DC USA   (09.06.10)
Egypt itself is an ARAB republic, one of 22 members of the ARAB League, and one of 56 member states (plus PA) of the Organization of the ISLAMIC conference. So yes, Gheit is a hypocrite. We are not fools.
24. Arab diplomats don't realize Israel Jewish state since 1948?
Israeli   (09.06.10)
You want to tell me this is news to him? And why does the UN have to agree? a state can define itself in a way that it wants. The issue is not the title or even the definition of Jewish State- it is that Arabs in Israel are ignored by the state in education, land resources and socially because of the conflict. That is the real issue. Even if the Jewish state title remained, that would stay the same. This is the issue that has to be discussed and changed.
25. #20 What is a bigger joke ?
Yossi G. ,   Jerusalem   (09.06.10)
You or your One State solution ?
26. Talks are a WASTE OF TIME
David ,   Los Angeles   (09.06.10)
There never was and will never be peace in the Middle East. Just accept it, get used to it and move on. Israel is a Jewish Country and everyone knows it. The Arabs will never accept Israel and that is just how things are. This is reality. There will be times when things seem calm and there will be war from time to time. Just how it is.
27. egypt defining jewish state
moron ,   galut   (09.06.10)
they dont want arabs expelled from israel but they do want jews expelled from hamastan and paland
28. Please #12, may God forgive you for calling Nigeria Islamic. We are Federal Republic not Islamic
Prince ,   Niger Delta, Nigeria   (09.06.10)
Our full name is Federal Republic of Nigeria and never Islamic republic. Muslims in Nigeria are not more in number than Christians neither can they march them in warfare assuming war breaks out. So bros may G'd forgive you for wishing us such an evil name.
29. GET IT PLEASE,
