1. as far as treaty concerned, a signatory is protected
observer   (09.07.10)
The IAEA has the right to inspect only declared facilities and to verify the ABSENCE, NOT the PRESENCE, of undeclared activities IN countries who signed the NPT. On September 18, 2009 the General Conference of the International Atomic Energy Agency called on Israel to open its nuclear facilities to IAEA inspection and adhere to the non-proliferation treaty. Israel, a non-signatory of the NPT, has to be submitted to the inspection of any UNDECLARED facility; a mandatory special inspection as Israel is not protected.
2. Israel destroyed it once, a second time would be OK.

3. Is this articl a joke???
Mark from Georgia ,   USA   (09.07.10)
The article states: "With time, some of the necessary information may deteriorate or be lost entirely," the IAEA chief Yukiya Amano wrote" YOU THINK? Really, not mention what they (cleared away) is that what you mean by "lost entirely". Just say for G-ds sake. Syria stole the evidence to cover up the lies they were telling the world. Otherwise they would have let in the inspectors immediately. Giving Syria a tremendous PR victory over Israel. Proving Israel are reckless bullies. BUT THEY DID NOT DO THAT DID THEY? Also there is this bit of wisdom in the first paragraph: "a desert site where secret nuclear activity may have taken place is endangering potential evidence in the investigation, the International Atomic Energy Agency said." Thanks, we all didn't know "potential evidence was endangered" because Syria has refused to allow anybody to inspect the site FOR 2 YEARS!
4. only one DECLARED Syrian atomic facility
observer   (09.07.10)
The IAEA lacks legal means to get Syria to open up because the country's basic safeguards treaty covers only its one DECLARED atomic facility, an old research reactor.
5. singled out Israel?
observer   (09.07.10)
Obama and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu agreed in a statement in July to “work together to oppose efforts to single out Israel” at the 150-nation IAEA conference. Singling out a state assumes that there are a number of states in the same position and only one state was singled out,” the letter says. Referring to the Non-Proliferation Treaty, it says: “The fact is that all the states in the region have acceded to the NPT except Israel."
6. #5 NPT is not compulsory
Raphael ,   Netanya   (09.07.10)
Iran and Irak underwrote it only to reach access to international nuclear technology and save the costly research process. Syria's nuke program may be not linked to N Korea, but to the former iraki mass destruction arms program, presumably concealed in Deir el Zor.
