1. upside down gazing technique
observer   (09.07.10)
and women wear veils to avoid sin of gazing upon men. The objects of gazing sin turned over to be subjects.

Shlomo Zalman   (09.07.10)
But that isn't an issue for those nut-jobs. And yes, I am religious. A gut gebenshte yor to all of Am Yisroel- but do it here in Eretz Yisroel.
6. It's better than the usual demands for "modesty"
Dorothy Friend ,   Tel Aviv   (09.07.10)
they place on women. Again, as long as they leave the rest of us alone, let them do whatever they want amongst themselves.
7. They've finally lost it!
Michael Steiner ,   Bahrain   (09.07.10)
Wow... Wow, wow, wow... Even the nuttiest of Muslims don't do this kind of crap. I know they're not harming anyone but this is beyond weird. This is a medical condition and these people should be put under observation. Worshipping someone's grave is bad enough; this is entering the realm of a medical condition.
8. gevalt!
avram moshe ,   turobin, Poland   (09.07.10)
and is this the torah taught by moshe rabbeinu at Sinai? next they will outlaw men milking cows or anyone eating hens because...(ach zil ugemor -- figure that one out for yourselves)
9. Middle Eastern Mentality
Mike ,   Portland, USA   (09.07.10)
The average American views the Middle East as hopelessly backward, sexually repressed, and ground zero for sexist patriarchy. Unless the Israelis do something about the Haredim, Israel will fall into the category of backward regions that Americans completely avoid when making their travel plans. Is it any wonder that liberal Jews would rather spend their discretionary income on trips to Spain, Italy, and the Greek Islands. Remember 60% of American Jews find a trip to Israel less than compelling and have never visited. The days of the super-egalitarian kibbutzim capturing the imagination of our youth, have long passed into history. The replacement images are none too appealing. If Israel had given the support to the kibbutzim that they lavished on the Haredim, their image among American Jews would have been dramatically better, especially with our liberal young adults, who no longer care all that much about Israel
10. Ukraine has very hot women, don't look
Judah ,   Golan Heights,ISRAEL   (09.07.10)
11. are you crazy??
lazer ,   jerusalem   (09.07.10)
I checked out ALL of kikarshabat.com's pictures on Oman and there was three fellows who put blankets over their heads, and that looked like they were sleeping. But all of the other men were eyes wide open!! Come on Yellow Net! Get with it!!
12. Hilarious...poor brainwashed idiots...
Malone ,   Hfx   (09.07.10)
...I never knock anyones religion, but these guys are worse than the muslims. Do they wear a bag over their heads when procreating? Also, gazing at women, respectfully,is one of lifes few pleasures. Sucks to be you guys, lol.
13. In certain, important ways, the Breslovers
Robert Haymond ,   Israel/Canada   (09.07.10)
reach out to the community of Jews, dancing on the tops of autos in public and blaring loud music. I find them attractive. They appeal to the down and outers, the drug addicts and alcoholics, to come back into the community of righteous Jews. They are the "hippies" of the Chassidic movement. On the other hand, this socalled protection against gazing on women is definitely a step backwards and I, personally, would have nothing to do with it. Sexual relations and sexual attractions are normal yearnings for human beings. The unnaturalness of the Chassidim in general (black clothes and hats in the summer hear of Jerusalem) and specifically with respect to sexual proclivities makes them foreign and undesirable to me. I recall Isaac Deutscher's autobiography in which he recalled the stifling and fetid shtetl classrooms of his youth in which even looking outside was reason for punishment.
14. If you criticize this, then let's hear you criticize Islam
adam eliyahu   (09.07.10)
Here, the men choose not to look at women. Isn't that their freedom to do so? Islam forces the women to wear the cloth. Isn't that worse?
15. men wearing veils is like wearing dark eye glasses to
observer   (09.07.10)
hide to where their sinning gaze is directed. if they were believing in the Omnipotent Universal Yahweh, they would have been very sure that He can seen their eyes hidden behind the veil.
16. #11 Lazer
Shalom   (09.07.10)
What do you want from these poor Talkbackers? Making fun of haredim, whether it's true or not, is unfortunately their only happiness in their lives these seculars have. Poor them. Let them have it. Do you want them to become completely depressed?
17. Who cares--it doesn't affect you!!!
Ellen ,   Israel/USA   (09.07.10)

courtney ,   usa   (09.07.10)

25. it's a sin today, but tomorrow it's ok
mike ,   israel (formerly usa   (09.07.10)

26. #21..Birdi
Malone ,   Hfx   (09.08.10)
If what you say is true, and I have no reason to doubt you,it's way beyond sad...it's almost sick.
27. Former Secular Druggies No Doubt
Seculardruggies ,   Jerusalem Israsel   (09.08.10)
This is pure sensationalism these guys more than likely- more than likely were victims of the secular societies accesses and sucked into the drug scene as many of the Breslev sect were and no more represent Orthodox Judaism than the looney toon anarchists protesting here represent rank and file Left politics. The secular society created these guys and many more like them in treatment centers unable to function Thank you secular society.
28. # 26
Birdi ,   Israel   (09.08.10)

29. Eretz Israel
olim hadashim ,   tel aviv/israel   (09.08.10)
I am secular/traditional ole hadash. How can one be very religious and leave Eretz Israel if there is not a very compelling reason ?
30. Hassidic Dress
Daniel Shears ,   Fort Lauderdale USA   (09.08.10)
Noe let me guess this straight. Now they are veiling themselves so as not to see women. These guys are completely wacko and then wonder why people get turned off from their sect. Listen up!! Maybe the key is fashion! You guys have the ugliest fashion on the planet! How about watching Queer Eye for the Straight Guy.. or maybe some of you do secretly. Islam might be growing because they look cool! G-d did not tell you to dress that way! Your leaders use this awful style to keep you in a closed sect with created norms that are not normal! Please change your style because you are also embarrassing to most other Jews out there. I love what you do for Judaism but not what you do for our image!!!
