1. So what. What do the people think
Oren ,   Or Yehuda   (09.12.10)
Many of us think that if someone who works for the public is charged with a crime, they should not be allowed to hold public office again. Just think if Deryi or Hirshson or Olmert were allowed to hold public office, could we trust them again.
2. Who are these buffoons - or is there honour amongst thieves?
Vernon Marriott ,   Tel Aviv   (09.12.10)
Perjury - that is lying under oath in court - is one of the most serious offences that can be committed under common law. It is doubly serious when the guilty party is a publicly elected official. In most countries, such individuals are usually jailed (Jeffrey Archer - 2 years; Jonathan Aitken - 2 years). This individual has been found guilty. How can he be trusted with public funds and public responsibility if he lied in court?
3. Strange
Israel Israeli ,   Tel Aviv   (09.12.10)
When Hanegbi was a Right-winger, he was reviled. Now, all sorts of public figures want to let this crook off without punishment. Could it be because he stole the Right-wing vote and became an extreme-Leftist? Could it be because he is now the leading contender to replace the failure Livni?
4. Perjury is serious! What is the minimum sentence?
michael redbourn ,   Arad - Israel   (09.12.10)
Of course he should no longer be allowed to serve in public office, but what is the minimum sentence that he's looking at? Michael
5. Convicted of perjury..
Terry ,   Eilat - Israel   (09.12.10)
So, that means he's a liar. I'm sure the vast majority of our politicians think that's no big deal & we all know why. Now, if you or me were convicted of perjury, would all these fine folks write letters for us? But, of course, we're not members of the club, the Political Elite Club. So, no letters for us. Does this man even think that lack of integrity disqualifies him? No, he just wants to escape accountability for his actions, he's only sorry he got caught. Our politicians are just such slimeballs, it's disgusting.
6. Public figures back the corrupt then ?
DT ,   TA Israel   (09.12.10)
This will continue to be a government by corruption
7. Honor amongst thiefs !
Avi ,   Israel   (09.12.10)
Sure they support him, hes one of theirs ! Hanegbi is a rotten apple from the Old boy Likud club before defecting to Kadima the very same people who brought us Ex President Katsav and the less said about him the better.
8. Dear Talkbackers, Maybe he IS a good man who made an error
Mea   (09.12.10)
Ask yourselves about the strange phenomena of people eager to fall in line chanting, "Off with his head". Here we have a list of the absolute heart and soul of non religious Jewish society willing to place their names before the public court and stand up for someone to the court. That is extraordinary and has never been done before. It demonstrates something. Can you accept that it demonstrates that he is an exceptional person. I think the odds are far greater that he is a good man than that all of these accomplished persons are willing to corrupt their own names out of some sudden group wide moral failing. Have you all grown so bitter you cannot think a further and a little longer?
9. Politicians
Ricardo Macher ,   Karnei Shomron IL   (09.12.10)
This just makes it clear to everybody that anybody who is in politics is not a good person! And they want us to trust them???? Down with each one of them, Israel needs to be ridden from this whole generation of old Stalinist ganger!
10. the would be kings
josef   (09.12.10)
Poor mr Hanegbi. He was ONLY convicted of perjury, an obvious requirement in order to serve the people and uphold the law of the State of Israel. Only a man of " his importance " would generate so many supporters. The " scratch my back and I will scratch yours " is alive and well in the corridors of power. Daryl. Sharon, Hirshson, Olmert, Katsav and a few others who served themselves as well as the country, are only a reminder that in order to reach the top in politics, one must excel and be able to lie, cheat, deceive.
11. HE'S A POLITICIAN! WHY WOULD HE LIE?
JEWISHNESS ,   NYC USA   (09.12.10)
YES~ he's the only Israeli politico who ever lied and got caught...YES! quite frankly if you don't lie you cannot make it in the Israeli gov't or in any gov't realistically for that matter.
12. #8 - sadly, MK Hanegbi is totally corrupt!
michael redbourn ,   Arad - Israel   (09.12.10)
The legal system in Israel makes it very difficult to get a conviction, even if the facts are obvious. Look at Olmert! He should be serving time! That said, he probably will do so for Rishon Tours, because all the evidence was documented and a conviction won't depend on witnesses. It won't be sufficient for MK Hanegbi to be barred from public office. He needs to be put in jail!
13. #8 MK Hanegbi the slimest of all weasels
Avi ,   Israel   (09.12.10)
time and time again he gets away with it , hoping that the public has short term memory loss, which it obviously has. he knew exactly what he was doing was illegal no exscuses.
14. Hanegbi place in jail
Ron ,   Tel Aviv   (09.12.10)
Navon and Wiesel, these garbage ? Talking again. Shame , Shame, Shame, Shame, what garbage. Obamma also signed?
