1. Does the Torah sanction this step up from gladiators to the

death? Somehow I think it does not
2. barbaric
Arn ,   Israel   (09.27.10)
Just dumb and ugly. Not a trace of anything elegant or redeeming in MMA. Homosexuals as Supermen all of them. Grotesque animals out to bludgeon each other. If this is your cup of tea you'll enjoy it laced with blood.
3. barbaric?
Mike ,   NYC   (09.27.10)
Fools with no understanding of the sport once again throw in their opinion. This is the most elegant, most beautiful and most demanding of all physical sports, combining the very best of various martial arts and training. MMA combines Grecco Roman wrestling, Jujitsu, Karate, Tae Kwon Do, and many other styles in a test of physical and mental strength. Its not a simple blood sport akin to Roman gladiators, but a competition between highly trained professionals who have an earned respect for one another. Those who have never taken up martial arts or combat sports nor taken up any meaningful and healthy competition have no value of opinion in this matter.
4. What about George St Pierre from Montreal?
Al   (09.27.10)
He trains at TriStar gym in Montreal as well as the YMHA...Best all round fighter out there.
5. I still think Boxing is the greatest sport..too bad too many
Al   (09.27.10)
Jews have joined the pussy front. Boxing used to be front row and center in Jewish athletics 80 yrs ago.
6. Brock Lesner's photo on main page but he's.not on fight card
MMA Fan ,   Haifa   (09.27.10)
False advertising!
7. MMA is very popular
Arrow   (09.28.10)
Besides it is popular, many fighters are attracted to American UFC, coz they invite the best fighters all round the world, plus they provide significant money satisfaction. Last match I have seen was Frank vs. Cro Cop. Cro Cop went down in 3rd round, but he got million dollars for it anyway.
8. to #5 you are sooooo right
Arn ,   Yehud, Israel   (09.28.10)
Benny Leonard, Barney Ross, Lew Tendler, Benny Bass, Al Singer... just to name a few of the old time Jewish greats in boxing. Boxing is one of the oldest, purest and truest of the martial arts. Good to know I'm not alone here.
9. To #8 You forgot Bummy Davis and
jason white ,   afula,israel   (09.29.10)
Max Buddy Baer. Also the fighter that invented the uppercut in Holland, a Sephardic Jew. But all forms of fighting and self defense are good for Jews to learn. I know a few Jews that are very good in Thai foot boxing, better than regular boxing.
10. Some really funny quotes in this story
Nick Sporek ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (11.07.10)
LOL- "It's not what people think. It's not just about people fighting in a cage. This is a serious sport." Serious because you could be made into a vegetable or killed, or serious because of the high stakes side betting? And... "You can't call a sport in which the competitors are under close medical supervision and need a license to compete barbaric," he says. Why the hell not? LOL This is not "martial arts' this is gladiators. Martial arts and sports like MMA are 2 different things. The difference is Martial artists play for keeps, while sports play for points, cash, trophies and their egos.
