The fact is we hear it that all the time. That the settlements are illegal? But are they? Where does it say that settlements are illegal? At times people quote official sounding Articles of this or that, but when you look it up, you find it doesn't apply. In fact the Oslo agreements signed in 1993 is the only legal agreement that exists between the Palestinians and Israel. Nowhere does it state in that agreement that the settlements are illegal. All the other mumbo jumbo that people write just does not apply. Now we can debate whether the settlements are an obstacle to peace? My opinion is they are just a myth, as far as an obstacle goes. After all, prior to 1967, there were NO settlements, yet we were at the same place as we are now! So to blame the settlements seems unlikely, just the current excuse, used now by the Palestinians. Again, why is the world more concerned about the settlements, than the daily violence against Israeli civilians. Why would building a house be more important than the murders that have already taken place? How is it that we have come to a place where the Palestinians get more concern over bricks and cement, than Israel, who have had their citizens murdered?
