1. This is what we Turks do....
Kadir ,   Turkey   (09.16.10)
we bring order, prosperity and peace to the region. This is good for everyone, well except Israel ; ).
2. Turkey's alignment
herb glatter ,   jenkintown, pa usa   (09.16.10)
with the forces of darkness is nearly complete as Erdogan and the AKP control Turkey's fate. war is on the horizon and it will be devastating to all. as to you Kadir you are so busy celebrating remember the Kurds in your country they may not go along with your plans.
3. :: Are they going to trade Hijab fashion with each other?
Matty Groves ,   Fairport   (09.17.10)
Oppressing their women could make for quite prosperous commercial ties.
4. :: Today best buddies, tomorrow worst enemies
Matty Groves ,   Fairport   (09.17.10)
Each one of them has its own political design on the Middle East and wants to become the dominant country of the region. Fir the moment, being marginalized by the West and not yet fully accepted by their Arab targets, the 2 countries cooperate fro a common goal. Once they will achieve some kind of status their interests will diverge and be in conflict. This will make them bitter rivals and the intensity of their clash will far surpass the Iran-Iraq war.
5. No, Kadir, it has a tragic smell about it

You've turned from sitting at Europe's door with begging bowl to seeing if the Persian's now will drop a coin or two into it.
6. Business with Iran is in Turkish interests-Not Israel
Tayfun_Turkey ,   Istanbul   (09.17.10)
Israel is a headache for any country to continue business or relations with. Just imagine about Tourism: That tinny Israel boycotted Turkey for Tourism, let us invite Iranian tourists in Turkey, it is at least 20 times larger capacity comparing with Israel, In fact Israeli tourism is even undesirable if you want to attract rich Iranian and Arab muslim tourists In Dubai mossad agents entering in Dubai like Tourists killed a muslim well know person, therefore muslims will feel themselves in danger if Israeli touist comming in Turkey
7. You know the famous Turkish saying
David Israel ,   New York, USA   (09.17.10)
KEL BASA SIMSIR TARAK First bring some order to your own people, end the daily terror attacks at beylikduzu, Surnak, Tunceli etc, end the massive unemployment (The official numbers do not reflect the reality as you must know), end the massive poverty that makes teh Turkish people sell their votes for a bag of coal, beans and rice, bring some ral justice where no one can be detained without any charges for an extended period of time (As you know there are over 1000 political prisoners in Turkey who have been in jail over 1 year with no charges, among them Professor Haberal, Journalists Mustafa Balbay and Tuncay Ozkan). If you can just fix your own issues it would be good enough. The rest of the world can deal with their own problems with no help from Turkey believe me on that.

9. You don't get it.
Kadir ,   Turkey   (09.17.10)
We can and will deal with our internal and external Problems at the same time, they are complimentary. The economic and political integration with our neighbours will also help in solving our internal problems. And the good thing about all this is, it is a win win for everybody, except for Israel that seams to thrive on instability and chaos.

What are you talking about???

Your country was not able to fix its internal issues since 1923 how can we expect to fix the world issues? And even the few internal issues that Turkey was able to fix it was always with outside intervention. For example the high rate of inflation was curbed with a strong dose of IMF pill.

Turkey's weakness after the independence war was for the most part due to the lack of capital. We started from scratch and the accumulation of capital was made to great deal impossible by the creation of the SU, which not only threatened us, but also cut us out from our neighbours. But the SU has crumbled and we are free to do business with everyone we desire to and so we will. And your logic is flawed anyway, the fact that we were weak and licking our wounds for the past 80 something years doesn't mean we will be doing so forever. And if you are a student of History you will recognize that every time someone manages to consolidate its power in Anatolia and is controling the straits, becomes the the dominating force in the region. There geopolitical and geographical reasons for that, which I'm not going to explain in detail here. But beware of whom you are making enemies with, we are always going to be there and we will be powerful.

I also hope that Turkey will also be there and strong as Ataturk crated it in a secular and modern way. Israel also is going to be there as the only state of the Jewish Nation taking its strength from its people's intellectual, innovative, creative, productive, artful talent and capacity. And as Turkey turns to its roots of Kemalism which prescribes a modern secular democracy fot Turkey Israel will continue to be the strongest supporter of Turkey as it did in the past. I am referring to the removing of the US embargo established to Turkey after Turkey invaded Cyprus in 1974. But one thing for sure just like Israel as a friendly country would not ask Turkey to bend in front of him, Israel also will never bend for Turkey. It will be a relation of mutual respect. Which means that Israel does not need Turkey to bring order to Israel

I wonder why Ataturk is always so much adorned and praised by the Israelis? Let me guess! Is it because of Salonica? Is it because of his not so secret semitic roots? Jewish diaspora issue is such an interesting issue. It's kind of a two way road. Is Ataturk now Turkish or a Jew? Well i heard that the religious foundation in Israel don't regard the Donmeh as Jews. Can you confirm David? Anyway Ataturk is Turkish for me and it's not good for me when Israelis praise him.
15. #6 Iranians flooding into Turkey
Cynthia ,   USA   (09.18.10)
Are those escaping from Iran. The Iranians can hardly afford tomatoes. The middle and upper classes are holding their money because the economy is so unstable. Ahmadinejad barks and Turkish leaders jump but I sincerely doubt Iranian tourists are flooding Iran. We still see Turkish travel agents begging Israelis to return. And I don't think the jihadi cruise ship to Israel helped Turkey's image. Meanwhile, Israel's travel industry is booming.

1. I am not Israeli, I am an American born in Turkey. 2. Ataturk was not Jewish nor a Sabetay Sevi follower. His parents were religious Muslims. He started his first education in a Madrasa but did nit like it. After his father's death he went to military school at Monaster and as years passed he became more aware of the successes of the west and failures of the Ottomans therefore adopting a secular lifestyle. Please read Lord Kinross's biography of Ataturk. 3. Ataturk tried to transform the Turkish people from being a religious state into a modern progressive western style republic. He made many reforms taht many f the current Islamic nations should also embrace one day for their benefit. His path is not just a prescription for Turkey but also for any society that would like to be scientifically productive and politically peaceful. This is why many Israelis and Jews around the world admire him. Unfortunately many Turks these days openly dislike Ataturk. Onc Turkish lady (Supporter of AKP with her head scarf) last year on a TV interview when she was asked if she likes Ataturk said very clearly that she did not like Ataturk but she likes Ayatollah Humeyni.

Cynthia, there was a news in ynet or haaretz last month that the italian hotels were complaing about the horrible israeli attitude. Not so surprising for the Turks who are well aware with that ilk. In 2-3 years the hotels who were previosly catering on Isreaeli money will accomodate to the new situation. So don't worry for Turkish tourism. And for the booming Israeli travel, please go boom elsewhere.
18. @16-Mr Israel
Happy   (09.18.10)
Oh pardon, Mr Israel. Sorry my bad. I assumed you would be Israeli and American from time to time, interchangeable citizenship. My opinion on your story is that it is plain BS. Noone would adore so much the leader of some other nation. Especially if the leader is of a muslim nation when the sympathisers are jewish. Period.
19. #17 Happy Hour
Cynthia ,   USA   (09.18.10)
People who work in the hospitality industry can tell lots of stories. I witnessed the noisy busloads of tourists from other countries when I worked at the cafeteria atop Masada. You're probably the guy I saw stealing postcards. Israelis booked millions of dollars in travel per year to Turkey. Now the business goes elsewhere. And more of the money actually gets recycled back to Israel. Two of my relatives own bed and breakfast inns and report business has never been better. Eat your heart out!

1. There are many people of different nationalities that are respected worldwide. Some examples would be Volatire, Martin Luther King, Ibn Haldun, Maimonides and yes Kemal Ataturk. But you seem to be too shallow to understand that. 2. Less then 2 years ago a Turk was arrested in Philadelphia for providing classified US Military base information to terrorists. Are we to say that all Turks are terrorists? r there was another cae when a Turkish driver had blackmailed John Lennon's widow Yoko Ono for money. Are we to say that all Turks are crooks? Thre was another case where a Turkish family from Istanbul came to NY a few years ago checked into the emergency service of la Guardia Hospital in Rego park Queens and had a much needed heart bypass surgery then left the country without paying the bills. Are we to say that all Turks are bad? Of course not. In every society there are a few bad ones but most are good. But when you bring up the one case about one young Israeli tourist (and the case was about leaving towels on the floor which in most hotels it is common practice meaning bring me fresh ones) and generalize it I am afraid you are acting like a racist bigot. Iyi geceler, nesen bol olsun neseli efendi.

fortunately, closer ties is too smart and keeps away from both of them.
