The Saudis may be a little concerned about Iran but they want the F-15's for Israel. The US interest is for money-god knows we need it. When Iran gets the bomb, F-15's without a similar bomb are pretty useless. With 60 billion bucks of arms to Saudi, 100 million reinstated to Lebanon's Army (of god) and the Iranian bomb - Israel better have the bomb or they are finished. There is not going to be a "remote" off switch, that's silly. But as with all of our weapons there are different versions of each weapon. Some don't have all the high tech gadgets. Although I remember in the late 1970's or 1980's...I'm not sure exactly when...that the U.S. sold some of our AWACS jets to the Saudi's. These particular versions had Israeli upgrades that made the jets a better weapon. Naturally Israel was upset about it. Israel has improved many of the U.S. weapons, this common knowledge in the defense community. Israel never cares about sharing these upgrades with the U.S., they understandably don't want those upgrades given to their enemies. Israel is able to exist in a hostile area because of its high tech edge in weapons, and of course they want to maintain that edge. I would argue Israel has more at risk, than you do living in Chicago, since they are the ones who die when attacked. As we see in these recent peace talks, Hamas has declared open season on civilians, and I heard no outcry from the International community. Yet they seem to care about the settlement freeze, which puts no lives at risk.

Sounds like the US arms makers making a deal with the Saudis using the bogey of Iran to drive it. With the US having 1 in 7 living in poverty,and rising,surely the emphasis should be in investing in their economy instead of wasting billions in Iraq and Afghanistan.
