Albrecht Klein ,   Germany   (09.20.10)
4. You had 10 months to talk. Why didn't you?
(09.20.10)
Too late now! The freeze was a silly step in the first place. It was just a way to show the world that the Arabs do not want peace and do not understand what peace means and how to make peace. Even if the freeze will continue forever, there will never be peace with Arabs.
5. Clearly, the man is not interested in peace but in trouble..
Jehudah Ben-Israel ,   Qatzrin, Israel   (09.20.10)
...making!! And if so, let him make troubles which will not lead him or his people to any particular place. After all, they are used to it, to, that is "never miss an opportunity to miss an opportunity" for peace, as Mr. Abba Eban observed so astutely!!
6. Freeze part of Roadmap which Israel agreed to along with PA
Bloodyscot ,   Dallas, Texas   (09.20.10)
Unless Obama is willing to play hardball ME style then peace talks soon dead. Bush approved of Roadmap, Obama is just working with it. US/Quartet hardball would be banning Israel from using Quartet members banks or trading with them until freeze is back on. The Quartet is US, EU, Russia and UN, so basically the world.
7. freeze

pini ,   usa   (09.20.10)
that SAME type of pressure could be exerted on the pallys. Israel has already tried, what have the pallys done thus far? Did they make sure israelis werent gunned down in their areas for no reason? OH WAIT, they couldnt even do that

14. Abbas won't negotiate .....
Oskar Prager ,   Petach Tikva   (09.20.10)
To #6 - Bloodyscot. Your comments very unclear. Do you recomment that the US/Quartet/Russia should stop their Banks dealing with Israel, if Israel does not continue building freeze ? Is that truly your recommendation ? If so, how will US and rest of the world buy high-tech knowhow, medical knowhow, etc. etc. - Do you really mean to de-prive the world from these highly valueable items ? Surely that is a daft thought of you - if I understood your comments correctly. Oskar Prager, Petach Tikva
15. IF ABBAS IS GOING TO NY,TAKE THE OPPORTUNITY....
Ian ,   Newcastle upon Tyne   (09.20.10)
....and don't let him back in. In the end,Abbas is just an unreformed terrorist in a suit who isn't in any position to deliver anything that he 'agrees' to.His current position is unelected life 'President' of part of a non-state. All that Abbas is interested in is Israel's capitulation to all of his current demands with new ones down the line.If he didn't have his cynical buddy,Obama, behind him this process would stop right here and nobody would hesitate to say that Abbas is playing tricks. No preconditions?Just none to sit down, but plenty to continue past saying good morning. There'll be no g'mar chatimah tovah at the end of this . Israel has no partner for peace negotiations. THREE CHEERS FOR ISRAEL!!!
16. Hold your breath until you turn blue too
Ilan ,   Ariel   (09.20.10)
Go to bed without dinner also
17. Too bad!
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (09.20.10)
"If Israel stops the settlement and shows goodwill, then we can reach an agreement on borders and security, and agreement on other matters like the status of Jerusalem, water and settlements will follow in due course." What goodwill gestures have the Palestinians made? I cannot think of a single one. And they do NOT call the shots -- Israel has the upper hand in any negotiations, what with having been the victor in six wars started by the Arabs and what with the Palestinians being a fractious rabble that has engaged in unrelenting terror for over sixty years. As soon as the Palestinians can show some sort of internal unity; as soon as they repudiate those vile charters which call for the destruction of the State of Israel and the extermination and/or expulsion of the Jews; as soon as they openly recognize the inalienable right of the State of Israel to exist in its ancient homeland, then Israel may extend gestures of good will. In due course, needless to say ....
18. he will, he wont, he'll walk, he wont walk, he'll talk, he w
rebecca ,   Modiin   (09.20.10)
he wont talk. Cant make up his mind - maybe that is too true. He really has no mandate to talk, or not talk, to walk or not walk. He's a nothing puppet being pulled by many strings in different directions. Was of our time.
19. re12:US pressureon PA to honor Roadmap, radicals on bothsides
Bloodyscot ,   Dallas, Texas   (09.20.10)
US has used heavy pressure to get PA to follow Roadmap and mostly they have but there are radicals on both sides who want to stop any peace deal. The PA has little to offer now except final solution items which per the Roadmap will be within talks, while the freeze was agreed to while talks are going on per the Roadmap. The freeze maybe a major political problem for the PM now but its a US/Quartet, Israel issue not the PA's problem under the Roadmap.
20. I would say the Palestinians are stubborn.
Mark from Georgia ,   USA   (09.20.10)
The article states: "But so far Israel has stubbornly refused to extend the partial 10-month ban on new construction" If Israel hasn't walked away after Hamas has murdered its citizens, the least the Palestinians can do is sit still if the freeze is lifted. Especially is the lifting of the freeze, is limited, to areas that both sides agree will end up as part of Israel in any final agreement. Otherwise, in my opinion, Abbas is just looking for a reason to walk away. In fact this would a great oppurtunity for Abbas to take on Hamas in the PR game. Hamas will falsely distort the above described freeze (by me, only in areas that will be part of Israel) as Israel breaking their word. That Abbas is a traitor and collaborator with the "Zionist entity". Abbas must be able to win this debate among the Palestinians. He must be able to convince them (the Arab street) that Hamas is simply lying. He must show with Maps what is going on, and how Hamas is fabricating trouble just to derail the peace process. If he can't make the case on an issue this obvious, how can he speak for the Palestinians? How can he bring a true peace for his people? How can he get a country for the Arabs? He (Abbas) must go on TV and bring his case to the Palestinian people, directly. He must make the case or lose this opportunity. If Abbas explains the benefits, the pro's and con's, if you will, and win the hearts and minds of the Arab people. Abbas must risk it all, like Sadat, before him, if he truly wants to help his people. He may die (in an assassination by Hamas), but in death he may achieve what he couldn't in life. He may have to make the ultimate sacrifice, for the good of his people.
21. Who cares about Abbas?
Brod ,   USA   (09.20.10)
He can quit anytime. All he does is dictate his whims and fancies to the world. It is time the world tells Abbas and his cohorts to go to Hell for good. All they want is usurp the Land of Israel by way of deceptions and manipulations of external entities to do their dirty work. Their 'peace' is nothing but crap-Taqiyya to steal the Land of Israel on a silver plate. Israel should say NO to them. Israel should do away with the freeze forever and continue building homes for Jews in Judea and Samaria-Israel's liberated historic homeland-Land of Israel.
22. #19 PA following road map? so why do their school books
rebecca ,   Modiin   (09.20.10)
still show this whole area as Palestine? The only thing the PA have tried and have succeeded to do is to protect their personal income. And that's why Abbas is back at the table.
23. Cheap games Abbas. Too obvious again...
Jonathan   (09.21.10)
You don't want to make any progrss. You were counting on Iran's bomb, or so... Which had it really been dropped, would not have skipped you. You did not do anything in these 10 months, so what are these games ?
24. Abbas has a brain freeze
Bloodyscot ,   Dallas, Texas   (09.21.10)
I am not frozen therefore I keep building settlements and roadmaps on land stolen from Mexico. It is alI true, I only report the way I see it with 100/100 vision from 8000 miles away from Middle East. I report what I see through Al Jazeera colored glasses. BLOODYTHIRSTY SCOT GREATEST EXPERT OF TEX-MEX BURRITOS, ENCHILADAS, FAJITAS, MIDDLE EAST AND FAR EAST DALLAS, TEXAS
25. Whose school books?
Pamela ,   USA   (09.21.10)
The school books of the Palestinain children have the whole area as Palestine? Probably because they are not allowed to have new books. Look it up. And the Israeli school books show Palestine as "an area with no data".What do you think of that? They are non-people to your leaders.
26. Bibi, no talks!
Matthias ,   Munich, Germany   (09.21.10)
No negotiation for 1nday before Gilad is free! One mile of Gaza, Judea and Samaria to Israel for every day Gilad will be tortured!
27. ABBAS -- A MAFIA BOSS OF HIS GANG OF CRIMINALS
ABRAHAMben JACOB ,   CANADA   (09.21.10)
THAT'S ALL HE IS ....... A MAFIA TERRORIST WITH A SUIT TRYING TO IMPERSONATE A REGULAR NORMAL PERSON. AND THE U.S. , THE U.N. AND THE E.U. MADE HIM A BOSS........ WHAT A CRAZY AND DANGEROUS GAME.
28. The ONLY thing Abbas should be negotiating
Lioness ,   Israel   (09.21.10)
Is his citizenship in the Palestinian State of Jordan which occupies 78% of the Mandate land and has a Palestinian population of 77% of its population. Jordan IS Palestine
29. Too Bad We Cannot Bring Down Ahmad
Dav Lev ,   Burbank. CAUSA   (09.21.10)
One prominent Israeli reporter wrote a few years ago that the 48 War changed everything. The two state solution out of Western Pales..became one state, with Jews in control. Read Michael Oren 6 Day War for updates. An Israeli loss, no more Israel and no more Jews. Ahamd is right: the talks will deliver nothing but 1.5m more refugees (Arab). He conveniently twists history and facts, claiming the US gave Israel nukes (duh?). Hey guy,we invented the bomb, have you forgotten. We are spending trillions and many human lives (US) to defend Arabs against tyrants. Too bad we cannot invade, occupy and bring down your (Ahmad) regime, along with your Rev Guard thugs and head Mullahs.
30. Pamela are you a Blond?
Mark from Georgia ,   USA   (09.21.10)
First the Palestinian schoolbooks you speak of ARE NEW. They are not using outdated books because they are poor and oppressed. As your post seems to imply. They don't recognize Israel's right to exist, so Israel is not on their schoolbook maps. This is not unique to the Palestinians, the schoolbooks in Egypt, Syria etc. are all the same. With regards to the Israeli schoolbooks, show us your source. Plus I need the context of what is in the Israeli schoolbooks. Pamela you really sound ignorant on this subject. I suggest you do some reading about this conflict. Please vary your sources, so you get a rounded group of opinions. What you will find, typically, Pro-Palestinian sources frequently distort, exaggerate, fabricate many issues. Which should tell you what?
