When you say that Israel should be a religious state, whose definition of being religious do you mean? The ultra-orthodox who like the Zealots of old will certainly destroy the country. Are you advocating a state in the model of the Islamic states with a religious ruler where certain parts of the population are un-enfranchised particularly the female part? To succeed in the modern world you need a democratic state that while giving dereference to Judaism makes it possible for all people to live and practice their form of Judaism or not have any affiliation with religion if the so want. You are quite mistaken if you believe a Jewish Democratic state cannot survive. A religious state in the long run will fail.

Which would probably be an even faster decline in international status. You see, most of the world has moved away from ethnocratic nationalism. We have some instances here and there, like Serbia was in the 90s, but these are treated like the outcasts they deserve to be. If you want to be part of the West, you have to be a democracy. Otherwise you can line up with all the other second-rate countries that privilege ethnicity over citizenship.

This is an abstruse problem and cannot be resolved by popular (democratic) vote or opinion. Although you may say that my viewpoint is subjective, it is nonetheless very simple and blatantly clear... Israel is the “Jewish” homeland. Israel is the nation of “Refuge” for Jews everywhere. All Jews are entitled to “The Right of Return” (no other individual in the world has this privilege). Israel has sufficient territory to absorb all “Jewish” returnees as well as a growing “Jewish” population. Israel is unable absorb a multiplying “Arab” or other non-Jewish population, it simply cannot be done. Israel is a Jewish State…it must be. Israel can never be a cosmopolitan State with a large Jewish population. As for Jerusalem…It is the eternal capital of Israel and of necessity must be under the dominion and control of Israel.
