1. suggestions to Turkey & Israel
awe struck ,   istanbul   (09.23.10)
You can both start by assuming equal responsibility for stupidity and myopia and try to decrease the hatred injected into the Israeli and Turkish public before the damage is irreversible... Turkey: Apologize for sending this boat knowing what you would get out of pr and provocation. Please also apologize for putting your nose into stuff that is none of your business and issues sensitive enough. Israel: Apologize for handling the response to the above the worst possible way and apologize for the deaths of these people. Thank you.
2. Solid evidence? What about the ship's cameras?
David ,   Karmiel, Israel   (09.23.10)
That is the most "solid evidence" we have see and even the hostile press (SKYNews, CNN, the BBC and others) have shown the footage showing the weapons on board. These were security cameras operated by the ship and have nothing to do with Israel. Also some of the footage was filmed BEFORE the Israel troops boarded! The Turkish Government obviously is not in favor of continuing a good relationship with Israel but they haven't got the gutst to break of diplomatic relations. Turkey is well on its way to being an Islamic Fundamentalist country and this swing was supported in the recent referendum. So there is obviously no future for Turkish - Israeli ties and those Turks who have said that they don't agree with the Turkish Governments policy are either a small minority of just liars!
3. Ball in Ban's Court
M Carr ,   Baltimore   (09.23.10)
I fully expected the UNHRC to come to a similar conclusion so there is no story here. Ban’s investigation is the more credible one and I expect their investigation to be more balanced and impartial. Ban’s investigation must do a better job because the UN’s credibility is at stake and precedence has been established in this matter. The difficulty here is the possibility that Ban’s investigation risks reaching divergent conclusions than the UNHRC. This is the likely scenario that could put the UN in conflict with itself and could turn international law on its head. Ban has to walk a tightrope here and his diplomatic skills will be fully tested. The world will be watching.
4. Big Yawn
Yaron ,   USA   (09.23.10)
The video reveals the true intent and savagery of those peace activists. Suggest that Turkey allow a flotilla to Kurdistan in sympathy with the Kurdish cause. Will Turkey's opinion about Intl Law be the same.....I think not.
5. UNHRC must investigate gassing of Kurds & Armenian genocide.
DR ,   UK   (09.23.10)
The Turkish FM speaks volumes when he praises what he calls the 'impartiality' of the UNHRC report. The use of UNHRC and impartiality in the same sentence is a blatant contradiction in terms !!! The same body had already assigned guilt to Israel before any inquiry took place. The same body also sidestepped Turkey's direct involvement with the terrorist IHH group behind the violence. As to the 'evidence', none was provided from an Israeli perspective. The entire UN process was a platform for more Israel bashing by a group which has already been chaired by Syria and Libya and which, as a matter of course, has regular prearranged meetings to condemn Israel. It's no wonder the report met Turkey's expectations. It's a case of 'birds of a feather, flocking together....' again. Hamas, sworn to Israel's destruction, also approving of the report. Now if the UN 'human rights' council investigated the Armenian genocide at the hands of the Turks... ... or the recent use of chemical weapons by Turkey against the Kurds as cited in Der Spiegel... ... or the Turkish occupation of Cyprus and it's oppression of civilians there since 1974, well .... Turkey would of course be screaming of UN bias, disproportionate attention upon the internal affairs of the Turkish people etc., etc.. As to 'international law', such an entity is expediently revised and manipulated to suit any agenda possible that may delegitimise or denigrate the actions of the Jewish state or it's right of self defence..... which itself is embedded in international law, but which Turkey and it's cohorts choke upon whenever it gets in their way.
6. turkey
David ,   Haifa, Israel   (09.23.10)
slaughtered how many armenians and kurds? oh wait!!! its muslim country and loved by the UN.... the world is scared of muslims because muslims blow things up and threaten to kill when insulted. a civilised society? NOT!!!
7. Prejudgment vindicated by UN "Human Rights" team
Eric ,   Tel Aviv & New York   (09.23.10)
Funny that the same conclusions published by the UN Human Rights Council before creating the investigation are the conclusions made by the investigation. Especially when they discount everything Israel said and the video tapes proved. Lets see what the other 2 really impartial investigations find.
8. UN Human Rights Council
Spencer ,   Israel   (09.23.10)
Their opinion is so biased, it's unbelievable. But then the findings of a Council once chaired by Gadaffi should come as no surprise. The only mistake that Israel made was not sinking the boat in question.
9. When Are the Arrest Warrants?
DAVID ,   USA only   (09.23.10)
Now the international Criminal Court (ICC) should issue arrest warrants for Barak, Netanyahu, Ashkenazi, et al.
10. un's verdict
ed ,   reno, america   (09.23.10)
did anybody expect the un to do anything else. all they ever do is condemn Israel. i personally reject anything the the un says. they have proved they are an anti semetic organization and totally bias against Israel. the rampant corruption within the organization means that this verdict has been bought and paid for. if you take this as a viable and truthful verdict you are wrong. the real question now is how much were they paid to come up with pack of lies and try and sell it for the truth.
11. Turkey
hebrew prophet ,   israel   (09.23.10)
Do the hypocritical Turks also welcome the UN Human Right,s Council decision of Saddam Hussein,s gassing of the Kurds in Halabyah 1988 and his illegal use of the banned mustard gas ,and if not why not?
12. unarmed soldiers?
observer   (09.23.10)
those activists are saying the truth when they said that Israel used snipers to shoot to kill from above? do you support the activists' allegations? or do you think that the soldiers couldn't control a bunch of activists, few of them armed with metal pipes? the wounded soldiers had never experienced cut wounds or gun shots; the proof is that Israel never published photos or x-rays of their condition, because there were non, and not because Israel respect privacy of its soldiers, nor of the victims. Maybe Judaism prohibit autopsy, but those secular Zionists who follow the civil law, for most, aren't religious. I believe that it was a big mistake that Israel didn't publish the victims' x-rays which would have negated those x-rays faked by the Turks. Caches & 20 TEU tanks full of weapons confiscated? but no one firing weapon, switchblade knives? really? The soldiers boarded the ship while shooting live bullets, they couldn't have been firing paint-balls while going down on ropes. The taken-from-far-distance video failed to show the real assailant. that video served only to show soldiers throwing an activist to a lower deck, not the revers! even, the admitted doctored audio was against, not with.
13. IHH linked to government, linked to NATO, is NOT terrorist
observer   (09.23.10)
ironically the Soviets demanded the Americans to withdraw missiles from Turkey, if Soviets to withdraw missiles from Cuba. ironically, two days after the start of the Cast lead, a US high military Command made proceedings to deliver two box boats full of amo from Greece to Israel, just in case.
14. Cyprus? Armenia?
Dallas ,   Canada   (09.23.10)
The worst hypocrisy defends the worst offenders. It's called deflection.
15. :: David - # 9 - arrest warrants for Hussein O.
Matty Groves ,   Fairport   (09.23.10)
Admiral Mullen, Genls. David Petraeus, Stanley McChrytsal? Numerous times their orders to launch missiles from Drones killed up to 30 innocent civilians in Afghanistan, Pakistan. Are you advocating their arrest warrants too?
16. :: #15 - Another lame attempt...
Matty Groves ,   Fairport   (09.23.10)
...by the childish impostor.
17. Responsibility
Dino Domingo ,   Vancouver, Canada   (09.23.10)
everyone on this site who is an Israeli/Jew or sympathiser has a tendency to deflect and divert. You people start talking about "what about Turkey with Armenia" and "Kurdistan" to divert attention. Also, your views about the people on the Flotilla may be correct but the issue here is about a military organisation (IDF) boarding a boat in International waters where idiots are waving knives, pipes and all sorts of weapons as if they are going into a gang fight. There is no way the IDF was going to lose this fight... here is the problem, they should have never been boarded that ship in that manner in International waters...end of story... this is why it is a crime! I would agree the yahoo's on the Flotilla were looking for trouble but surely the IDF can contain the boat in a far more effective manner... some of the extremists had 4 - 5 bullets in the head! This shows a lack of control militarily and is more the type of behavior of an asssassination rather than containing and investigating. Don't compare yourselves to what turkey would have done if...or what any other ME country would have done...time and time again I hear Israelis holding themselves out to be elite militarily...well, this isn't an example. Also, your IDF fellas were caught stealing credit cards and other items from people on the ship and using it for their benefit...purchasing all kinds of things! The UN has their version, partially because Israel arrogantly refused to cooperate... its obvious you people aren't objective and constantly look to divert attention by listing historical events that happened decades ago! Not too long ago a UN building was hit with a bomb...a phosphorous bomb which you blatantly denied and then diverted the attention by saying the UN is biased against Israel...will you ever accept any responsibility?
18. The U.N. Human Rights Council
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (09.23.10)
Oh, do tell! Let's have a look at some of the nations which serve on the United Nations Human Rights Council. Angola. Bangladesh. Burkina Faso. Cameroon. Cuba. Djibouti. Ghana. Kyrgyzstan. Libya. Mauritania. Nigeria. Pakistan. Qatar. Saudi Arabia. Thailand. Uganda. Zambia. All bastions of human rights, right? LOL! The Commission is headed by his excellency, the representative from Thailand. Thailand. Where it is perfectly legal to have sex with an eight year old girl, as long as you pay the asking price. What a SHINING example of human rights is Thailand, indeed! And -- considering the human rights abuses that occur routinely in all the countries I have listed -- Thailand is actually not that bad, if you can believe it. So, all in all, I would say that the overwhelming majority of countries serving on the United Nations Human Rights Council wouldn't recognize a human right if they tripped over one. Their report, needless to say, is therefore worthless. But we knew that already.
19. The Report was Produced by 3 Well Respected
Doug ,   Rochester, USA   (09.23.10)
International experts, not by the UNHRC. The three that produced the report are UN war crimes prosecutor Desmond de Silva, Trinidadian judge Karl T. Hudson-Phillips and Malaysian women's rights advocate Mary Shanthi Dairiam. Don't whine that it was a biased report merely because you do not like the conclusions.
20. San Remo, Section V
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (09.23.10)
SECTION V : NEUTRAL MERCHANT VESSELS AND CIVIL AIRCRAFT Neutral merchant vessels 67. Merchant vessels flying the flag of neutral States may not be attacked unless they: (a) are believed on reasonable grounds to be carrying contraband OR BREACHING A BLOCKADE (emphasis added), and after prior warning they intentionally and clearly refuse to stop, or intentionally and clearly resist visit, search or capture; (b) engage in belligerent acts on behalf of the enemy; (c) act as auxiliaries to the enemy s armed forces; (d) are incorporated into or assist the enemy s intelligence system; (e) sail under convoy of enemy warships or military aircraft; or (f) otherwise make an effective contribution to the enemy’s military action, e.g., by carrying military materials, and it is not feasible for the attacking forces to first place passengers and crew in a place of safety.Unless circumstances do not permit, they are to be given a warning, so that they can re-route, off-load, or take other precautions. Israel acted in a fully legal manner. Anyone who claims otherwise just doesn't have a clue. Israel gave the requisite warning (which was ignored); Israel has imposed a fully legal and internationally recognized blockade; and IHH's ties to Al Qaeda and to Hamas are well-known. Turkey has no argument here. They're just embarrassed that they got caught supporting a terrorist organization and they are backpedaling frantically, trying to divert attention from the real issue -- why is a member state of NATO contravening NATO policy with respect to proliferation of international terrorist groups? Turkey can kiss its membership in NATO good-bye.
21. How dare they!
GOLANI ,   Vineland, USA   (09.23.10)
Yes the Israeli soldiers used "disproportionate" reactions on the ship. How dare they get in the way of swinging metal poles or knives, and even bullets. Since the Israeli soldiers were not expecting to fight back, they had the nerve to allow their pistols to be taken and used against them. The activists were so peaceful that they are probably still suffering from trauma of accidentally hitting the Israelis with metal poles, clubs, marbles from slinshots and guns. I still say that most of the world today is morraly bankrupt, and the UN is leading the way.
22. To #12- you are very wrong
Someone   (09.23.10)
The Press did show the Israeli soldiers wounded, In fact the Roters took the photo of an Israeli soldier stabbed and removed the blood from the photo. On top of this there are videos and photos of "peace activists" stabbing and throwing a soldier off the shop. Check your facts before you start talking . The matter of the boarding the ships was a matter of national security, before boarding them there was no way of knowing there are no weapons on the ships. Also notice international law saying a country is allowed to board a ship invading it's in waters. Again....you have nothing but rumors and hear say as facts while Israel has footage and video to support it's claim . Like every crime we all know there has to be a motive and we all know the motive here was provocation.
23. check your facts before you talk
someone   (09.23.10)
Really? Responsibility? What about the responsibility of the UN whenever terrorists are firing from their facilities? Where is the UN when Hizbullah ,which is a terrorist organization sponsored by Iran, takes over a country? Where is the UN when Hamas executes everyone who is supportive of the PLO? Or when terrorists used red cross's ambulances to smuggle bombs? Israel on the other hand came on those ships with no intent to provoke violence , the soldiers came on board with paintball guns. Do you think Canada would have done such a thing? Israel gave them every opportunity to come peacefully and not invade their territorial waters. All your accusations are based on Palestinian propaganda and not on facts. The UN never cared for facts and that is why Israel refuses to cooperate with it's committees. When an Israeli soldier gets caught stealing or abusing he goes to jail, when a Palestinian murders an Israeli civilian he is considered a hero. So don't lecture to anyone before you know the facts , And especially when you get your information from the pro arab media and the pro arab UN.
24. stop your whining #16, and get a life
(09.23.10)
stalking is a disease, and you have many others too
25. :: Unfortunately - #16 - is the fake
Matty Groves ,   Fairport   (09.23.10)
Cannot stand competition? Go somewhere else.
26. response to davotogolu and erdogan
alexi   (09.23.10)
hell can freeze over before israel provides an apology. In fact, we demand an apology from erdogan for enabling ITT terror elements to provoke the israelis. Gul implied war could be launched. Without a doubt, Turkey is the strongest moslem country notwithstanding iran's brainwashed religion drugged army loaded with missiles and guerillas. if gul wants war with israel, no one will be left standing anywhere in the area so think twice. Yes and barak will not answer because he is olmert #2-afraid of his shadow.
27. high casualties due to activists illegally fought among
observer   (09.23.10)
civilians. What matters is that Turkey is proceeding to side by Arabs. Palestinians, for the first time, are going to win the backing of a NATO state. Thanks Israel for your raid on the flotilla. Sex Americans were among the activists, one young man killed and the ex-ambassador to Mauritania survived to tell the story. Is another big NATO State(s) going to follow Turkey?
28. Our resident imposter is at work at # 15 & 25
You've been outed   (09.23.10)
Ynet, you should remove those posts. The imposter's MO is to post pro-Israel, anti-Arab comments under the usernames of Israel-haters, and anti-Israel, pro-Arab comments under the names of Israel-supporters. Be on the lookout for our juvenile delinquent imposter.
29. Israel doesn't recognize Armenian Genocide
observer   (09.23.10)
The Knesset decided to shelve a proposal for a parliamentary discussion on the Armenian genocide, in compliance with PM Ehud Olmert's request. The state of Israel does not officially recognize the Armenian Genocide, despite the fact that the Jews themselves were victims of a similiar genocide for which Adolf Hitler himself used the Armenian massacres as an example. do you know why? The official story is that a group of Muslims -- known as the Young Turks -- were responsible, but there is a lot of evidence that the Young Turks were Crypto Jews.
