31. Where is the Israeli delegation?
Yuval ,   Lausanne   (09.23.10)
How come the Israeli delegation was absent during Obama's speech? Have they received instructions from Yossef Ovadia to pray instead?
32. no. 22
Palestinian ,   Yaffa   (09.23.10)
Although you are wrong about how started the six wars (forgot about Haganah? - Irgun? - Stern?) and wrong about who won the six wars 1973 Sinai peninsula is back to Egypt? Based on your analysis, if the 7th war is lost by israelis then they will have to go to where they came from, and who is in the usa or ny or where ever will stay there just to moan and wail?
33. to number 8 salma

You need to pay attention in school and learn your geography.
35. Pres.Obama's Speach @The U.N.
Simcha ,   So.Cal.USA   (09.23.10)
Even if there is an agreement between Israel and the Pals. I can't see real peace .The Pals. have never governed themselves, they have always been governed by others. They are a hodge-podge of arabs from differing areas and seem to share only a desire for violence to answer their problems. At this point they can't even get along with each other, hense fatah, hamas,PLO,etc. They'll kill each other and surely drag Israel into it by blame because they cannot accept responsibilty for their actions.
36. to #24
Michel ,   Jerusalem   (09.23.10)
Israel delegation absent as it's a religious Jewish holiday..
37. Israel should be a secular country for all its citizens
Daniel ,   North Tel Aviv   (09.23.10)
Israel is either a civil secular democracy where all citizens are equal and separates religion from state or a quasi-democracy theocracy. Now we are the latter. Whats so special about being jewish? time to remove the Jewish God from our national identity and develop a new israeli identity outside the small-minded religious definitions and labellings. The biggest danger to Israel is not the Palestinians or mad Najad but from within, the fascist religious right.
38. Obama is not a Palestinian so he can think as he likes about
Salma ,   Palestine   (09.23.10)
"Israel" !
39. before completing the destruction of usa
he could hardly wait ,   to destroy israel   (09.23.10)
as you see the 1 that would be king of the world speaks impossible words too good to be true in reality. he says he has saved america by his policies - but you just have to wait a little longer to see it happen - he says. you see the latest version of antiochus epiphanes
40. Think of alternative
RC ,   USA   (09.23.10)
Ha-Ha, maybe Obama should have said; consider the alternative, if an agreement is not reached, Palestinians will never know the pride and dignity among the Arabs of taking by force and stealing the Holy land from Israel that was set apart for Israel by God himself according to the Bible. The Arabs already have enough land and the Palestinians belong in Jordan. Why doesn’t Obama show some pride and dignity himself and return at least some land in the U.S. to the Native American Indians which was taken by force and deceit.
41. I don't get it
Paul ,   Atlanta, GA USA   (09.23.10)
The jewish folks on here blast Obama and the U.S. for trying for peace and you say war is the only answer, or you say that the arabs will never recognize Israel. Then what are YOU waiting fore. You, the jewish state, go ahead and go to war. We'll have your back even if we say we won't. Just shut up and lets get it over with.
42. TO Daniel#37: You are free to leave Israel at any time!
Yoni ,   Tel Aviv   (09.23.10)
Israel is a Jewish state first and a democracy second! if you don't like it you can move to any other country you like......... i suggest Iran!
43. Number 37: well-said Man
Sam ,   Israel   (09.23.10)
I agree totally. I have more in common with some arabs than I have with even some orthodox jews.
44. #21 #23 #33 Salma is right
Israel Israeli ,   Tel Aviv   (09.23.10)
The Arabs have been very consistent. The most moderate have said what Salma said, and guess what? They are winning. Since 1992, Israel leaders make more and more concessions while the Arabs make none. In 1995 Peres cursed anyone who said he would divide Jerusalem, now Netanyahu is begging Abbas to agree to divide Jerusalem. The problem is not the Arabs, it is the Israeli leaders.
45. at no. 37
David ,   Haifa, Israel   (09.23.10)
please anytime you want Daniel. I am a traditional observant Jew... and I want Israel as a secular JEWISH state without any form of Arab majority. Thats what it is about. You do not want that.... then move to Gaza. Iam sure they would allow you, a jew , if you ARE jewish, to live among them... right before they cut your head off.
46. Israel a No Show for Obama's UN Speech, fear or arrogance
observer   (09.23.10)
why empty Israeli seats at the UN while Obama speaks? because Israel has psychotic problem with the defeat on Jewish holidays? Or, because receiting the scripture usually starts with US commitment to Israel's security and ends with Obama presses for Mideast peace? Obama called on Israel to extend its moratorium on settlement building, in this context I know why Israel fears that "call on".
47. Two states for two people, is this what Obama said or
Genuine Moshe   (09.23.10)
am I wrong?
48. #29 a correction
Israel Israeli ,   Tel Aviv   (09.23.10)
The Mandate states that the indigenous non-Jewish population rights will be preserved. Everyone but the Arabs agree: look how they ethnically cleanse Bethlehem and Gaza from the indigenous Christian population. But tell me, how long does a group have to live somewhere to be indigenous? Let's be generous and say that everyone who lived in Israel more than 90 years (since 1920) is indigenous a laughable definition that wouldn't hold anywhere else. That would cover all the Druze, Bedouin, Jews, Samaritans and most Christian Arabs (who are trule indigenous) as well as Turks and some Muslim Arabs. It would not cover 95% of the Muslim Arabs, who are colonists that immigrated in the 1930s and 1940s during the British occupation. To prove my point: the most extreme Kahanist Jew will agree to give full rights to everyone who lived in Israel before 1920, while the most moderate Arab will demand to define "indigenous" as "an Arab Muslim who moved to Israel as recently as 1948".
49. BHO - the muslim trojan horse in the western world !
Jaacov Baumann   (09.23.10)
Check his face and you see that this man is one big lie !
50. To: No. 41
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (09.23.10)
Obama's administration is all about pressuring Israel to make concessions, while securing no concessions from the Palestinians. Israel has not initiated a single one of its six wars; we just emerged victorious in all six. We have also had to endure over sixty years of murderous violence on the part of the Palestinians. Think of it this way: how many concessions did the United States make following the defeat of Germany in World War II? NOT A SINGLE ONE. Why a special set of rules that apply only to Israel and no other country? In the event you haven't noticed, Abbas has made it quite plain that (i) he will never recognize Israel as a Jewish state; (ii) he will never acknowledge the right of the State of Israel to exist in its ancient homeland; and (iii) his goal is the destruction of the State of Israel and the extermination and/or expulsion of the Jews. Given the foregoing, if you were an Israeli Jew, would you allow the United States to force "peace" upon you?
51. Obama Hussein is a muslim spy in the White House!!!!!!
John ,   Texas   (09.23.10)
His goal is to destroy the US from the inside with unimaginable debt and help his arab brothers destroy Israel thru "peace" because they can't do it thru war!
52. at 46
David ,   Haifa, Israel   (09.23.10)
why a no show? BECAUSE IT WAS A HOLIDAY FOR US!!! Show us some you respect for our beliefs or are you a simple bigot?
53. To: No. 46
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (09.23.10)
Today marks the first day of the Jewish holiday of Sukkot. Israel is a Jewish state. Whatever the personal beliefs of the individual diplomats, they represent the Jewish state and, as such, did not attend the U.N. today. Perhaps next year's opening of the General Assembly should be scheduled for Eid. It would be most interesting to see how many Islamofascist states would show up.
54. #16 - well, some of those areas were Jewish b4 1948
William ,   Israel   (09.23.10)
Areas like Beit El and Schehem were traditionally Jewish for centuries. Areas around Hebron like Kiryat Arba, and inside Hebron, were also heavily Jewish, but then they were ethnically cleansed in 1948. If you're insisting that Jews just pick up and leave the land because Jews weren't there in 1966, aren't you advocating ethnic cleansing all over again - a war crime in 1948 AND still one today??
55. No, he didn't say "two-states for two-peple" # 47, which is
Abraham J. Silver ,   USA   (09.23.10)
why a number of us don't trust the man. Why can't he bring himself to state that Israel is not only the "historical homeland of the Jewish people" (actually the Land of Israel and not Israel is!)? And it is not enough to say in passing that Israel is a "Jewish state" which can mean a number of things. He should have, and never uttered the phrase "two-states for two-peoples". Take a note of it for November!!
56. Spoken like a true idiot.
Rafael ,   Yerushalayim, Israel   (09.23.10)
57. To: No. 29
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (09.23.10)
Wrong, both counts. Akko (Acre) was the capital during the Crusader era, not Jerusalem. Jerusalem was referred to as the "Kingdom of Jerusalem." The Jews accepted partition; the Arabs didn't. They went to war instead. And lost. The Jews were kicked out of East Jerusalem and the West Bank, and forty-seven synagogues were dynamited by the Jordanians. The Palestinians cannot now go back and say, "Okay, we changed our mind; we accept partition." For you to suggest otherwise is beyond absurd.
58. History teaches us peace comes through resounding victory.
Chaim ,   Israel   (09.23.10)
There is a small chance Obama sincerely believes Israeli concessions will bring peace. After all, what remains of the Israeli left still believes this drivel. History teaches us real peace comes through resounding military victory. As the Allies' resounding WW II victory brought seemingly permanent peace to Europe and Asia. The path to true peace, for Israel, is also through resounding victory over "Palestinians", with no concessions. Israel should annex Judea and Samaria. Pay Arabs to leave.
59. #32 - Doesn't match war analysis
William ,   Israel   (09.23.10)
I doubt any analysts would agree with you regarding the 1973 war. It won Egypt back the Sinai? Usually, land is won back at the end of the war. Egypt didn't get back the Sinai under they made a peace agreement with Israel to end tensions and accept the Jewish State, along with a visit to Jerusalem by Sadat, which was decried as "recognizing the Zionists". So, I'd say seeing the Egyptians finally give up war and accept peace, it's easy to figure out who won that war. Egypt today doesn't celebrate the 1973 war because they got the Sinai (eventually), they celebrate the fact that they attacked Israel when the whole population was thirsty, hungry, tired, and praying. Not a badge of honor! Haganah, Irgun, and Stern - all created after 1920, 1929 massacres of Jews by Arab terrorists when the British did nothing to protect the Mandate citizens. There was no Irgun in 1920 but there was plenty of Arab violence and racism.
60. Palestinians are the new Boers
Brian Cohen ,   Judean Peoples Front   (09.23.10)
Just like the original Boers, the Palestinians lay claim to something that is not. There never was any country called "Palestine", and Jerusalem was never the capital city of any country called "Palestine". Like the Boers, the Palestinians have invented an entire history and culture based on their modern stories. Like the Boers, the Palestinians are trying to lay claim to a land that historically is not theirs. Remember, the Boers mutated into the Afrikaners and gave the world apartheid. The Palestinians do not hide the fact that they are planning to do the same - create an apartheid state that is ethnically cleansed of Jews, or where Jews and non-Palestinians are 2nd class citizens. Will the Palestinians disappear like the Boers? It certainly looks so at this point in time.
