1. But why do we care about the UN?
Lobo ,   USA   (09.27.10)
The UN is a joke. It is well known that they are anti-Semitic hypocrites. The countries on this Human Rights B.S. have "perfect" human rights records (not). Israel does itself, and the rest of the free world, a favor when she tells the UNHRC to get lost.
2. Pot calling Kettle black
Steve Benassi ,   Silver Bay, MN USA   (09.27.10)
...Jews have wiped Palestine off the map, bulldozed hundreds of ancient Arab villages, and imprisoned 1.5 million Arabs in Gaza, and 2.5 million Arabs in the West Bank, and refuse to let 3.0 million Arab refugees to return. It will end badly for the Jews, again,
3. human rights
leonard ,   LA-usa   (09.27.10)
I quote from this artical... the UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC), the most hypocritical and shameful body of an institution that knows a thing or two about hypocrisy and shame; This should read "they know nothing of being hypocratic or shame because if they knew they would be otherwise."
4. Let's have referendums on supporting the U.N.
Chaim ,   Israel   (09.27.10)
Conservative parties throughout the Western World, the U.S. Republicans in particular, have much to gain by calling for national referendums on supporting the U.N. The U.N. has become a very bad joke and it's widely despised in the U.S., which provides a big chunk of the U.N.'s budget. Once politicians see how popular the desire to cut U.N. support is, they will easily find the courage to do so.
5. The UN
M. Hartley ,   Atlanta, US   (09.27.10)
I thought the whole world knew already that the UN was a great, big, albeit not very funny, joke. Why bother to dignify their BS with comments, at all?
6. well said!!!!
(09.27.10)
7. Here is the difference
R. Coyner ,   usa   (09.27.10)
The other countries mentioned don't pretend to be democracies. They also don't receive the unconditional support of the US and the conditional support of Europe. They also count everyone living under their control as citizens with the same rights (however few they may be). Israel, on the other hand practices a form of apartheid in the occupied lands, with Jews as privileged people among the oppressed ones. There are two sets of laws and two sets of rights, depending on whether or not you are a Jew. This is the difference. Yes, Israel proper is a democracy but it is an unjust and apartheid regime in the occupied areas.
8. So true
J. Malema ,   Jozi RSA   (09.27.10)
And so sad… The fact that, "many view any UN body as neutral, making its resolutions and reports fair and meaningful" is crazy. Why does Israel not take them to court (In the US) and at least remove the UN out of the UNHRC, for the HRC is just another Palestinian propaganda source.
9. Nightmare
shmuel ,   UK   (09.27.10)
funny no other country i the world seems to have a problem with thge UNHRC. They are on yiur case and it will get worse,
10. Thank you, Mr. Gertel
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (09.27.10)
What an extraordinary article! Thank you for pointing out the incredible hypocrisy of the United Nations and its most vaunted member agency.
11. The UNHRC is a farce and a sham
Shaye ,   Mexico city   (09.27.10)
The UNHRC is a farce and a sham. It currently has two missions, none of which has anything to do with human rights. The first is to serves as a shield to it's shameful members from human rights investigations. Think of it as the inmates running the asylum. The second is to fabricate cases against Israel in order to delegitimize it and ultimately lead to its destruction.
12. And this time folks, IGNORE you-know-who.
Tahl ,   Ashdod   (09.27.10)
Don't let this spamming and lying Arab propagandist take over the discussion like he/she did with the other opinion piece about the UN. He/she thrives on your attention.
13. EXCELLENT ARTICLE!
Arik ,   Israel   (09.27.10)
Very well written and researched, keep them coming!
14. in need of the truth...
tiki ,   belgium   (09.27.10)
Israel is in 'urgent need of a Ministery of PR, which can 'expose and adress, all the bias and lies in an appropriate way.
15. Spread the Word
Jason, Ph.D. ,   Charlotte, USA   (09.27.10)
This article is one of the finest expressions of basic common sense that I have read in a long time. It should be given out in street corners by an army of volunteers in every free and semi-free country in the world. (However, I am not advocating that it be given out in countries like Saudi Arabia, since the volunteers handing it out there would be arrested.)
16. To: No. 2
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (09.27.10)
There was never a country called "Palestine." The only countries that have ever existed in that region were the Kingdom of Judea and the Kingdom of Israel. The Crusaders had a half-hearted go at "Kingdom of Jerusalem," with Akko (Acre) as its capital, but they were driven out. Of course, the British carved out a huge chunk because after they made Feisal the "King of Iraq," Feisal's baby brother Abdullah stamped his foot and said he wanted to be a king, too -- hence "Kingdom of the Transjordan" (present-day Jordan). Your hatred for Jews and Israel blinds you to international law, common sense and, needless to say, reason. You are just a dyed-in-the-wool rabid anti-Semite; we've seen your kind come and we've seen your kind go and WE ARE STILL HERE. Deal with it. Am Israel Chai!
17. Israel should withdraw from UN it is a joke
avrom ,   bet shemesh   (09.27.10)
as is Israel is a light unto the nations Israel should establish a body of enlightened nations which respect true democracy ,human rights .tolerance and the rule of law Membership would be by invitatation only when Israel has deemed the applying nation to have reached the necessary standards

You might be the most ill-informed person to ever post on this website. TO say that Libya, Iran, China, Sudan, Saudi Arabia and North Korea treat their citizens equally is what might be the most radically asinine statement ever recorded. Let's pick apart 3 of those aforementioned nations and see if you agree. You obviously have no idea about what you are discussing. The occupied territories? You must mean one of which is occupied by Hamas and the other which is considered the most thriving Arab area in the Middle East with double the mean income of Israel's next door neighbor, Egypt, and a place which Frommer's called the Middle East's new hot spot: Ramallah. Apartheid? Do you even know what that word means? I think not. Anyway, let's move to China for a second, a nation that deems its 56 minorities (!) as second-class citizens, and at times third-class, demonizes them for not being Chinese, has massacred over 2 million Tibetans, 300,000 Uyghur Muslims, and a host of others. They have openly sought to end all forms of Tibetan culture, language, and religion, yet you say that all their citizens have equal rights...interesting. Iran!? Do you not watch the news or are you that naive? Remember a certain election last year where the Iranians killed over 20,000 of their citizens and jailed thousands of others just for supporting a candidate that wasn't sponsored by the Ayatollah? Oh yeah, fun fact, Iran is considered a Democracy...you are wrong again. Sudan!? You think SUDAN has the same rights for all its citizens!? Do you not understand the word genocide? You definitely use it freely against Israel so I'm guessing that answer is no. That is when one group of people openly tries to massacre another. The biggest acceptor of Sudanese refugees who have seen their entire families wiped out because they were of a different religion: Israel. Didn't see that one coming. Of the US, EU, Russia, Israel is the nation that has granted asylum to the Sudanese refugees more than any other nation...fun fact, many of who are Muslim. Wake up and inform yourself before you speak.
19. #7, so members of the communist party
Danny   (09.27.10)
in China have the same rights as Tibetians? Qaddafi has the same rights as the average Libyan? You take an Saudi prince to court you are going to get a fair shake? When does Israel get "unconditional support" from the US?
20. To: No. 7
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (09.27.10)
Aren't you forgetting the over sixty years of Palestinian terror and six wars, all started by the Arabs and won by Israel? I assure you, sir, that the remnant of Jews remaining in Arab and Islamic lands (most are not permitted to leave) do not have a fraction of the rights enjoyed by Arabs in Israel proper. You need to acquaint yourself with the facts and the history of the region. Moreover, the Arabs who live in the Palestine Authority are oppressed by their leadership, not by Israel. When Israel controlled the entirety of the West Bank, there was infrastructure, there were medical clinics, hospitals, schools, universities (there were no universities on the West Bank prior to 1967). Any Arab who wanted a well-paying job in Israel could have one. Israel lifted West Bank Arabs out of oppression; now that the PA is in charge of most of the West Bank, despite all the billions of dollars and billions of euros which have poured into the PA coffers, there is nothing to show for it, except for massive unemployment, crumbling infrastructure, closed hospitals and medical clinics and shut down schools and universities. Not the fault of Israel that the PA leadership has lined their pockets with money intended for the Palestinian people, now, is it? Be a little careful, then, about accusing Israel of "oppressing" of the Arabs. Israeli Arabs enjoy all of the benefits of citizenship, though not all of the responsibilities. Israel extended aid and assistance and built up the West Bank despite the unrelenting terror against Israelis and Jews in the Diaspora at the hands of the Palestinians. Show a little respect.
21. #7 cut the BS
Ze'ev ,   Lod   (09.27.10)
Ever heard of foreign MUSLIM workers in Gulf states? They have no rights and are actually treated like slaves.
22. Israeli escapism
Hussain , Jasim ,   baghdad, Iraq   (09.27.10)
Once Israeli WRITERS AND COMMENTATORS find difficult to face to the reality of their abuse of the palestianian people they lash back in weak attempt to deflect pressure .Do your part and respect the 20% of your arab people , and the other 4 .5 million palestians, then you would have plenty of time to cricise others, now you have no credibility .
23. excellent article
Ilana   (09.27.10)
finally ynet is attempting to show the truth. I hope other newspapers do the same. Show the world the truth and don't let the abusers of human rights get away their nasty habits. They CON THE WORLD. How do we spread the word?
24. Goyim with too much power are GevaltGoyim
sol ,   europe   (09.27.10)
The Article is simply true - but forgets about one straight fact: Goyim with too much power are GevaltGoyim. Only after tragedies or only with Jewish humanity, the UN will be a HumanE Rights and not a Hitlerist Repression Organization.

2. Pot calling Kettle black Dear Steve, First of all Palestine never existed as a country. Jordan allows people in the West Bank to travel across their border. The real wardens of Gaza are the Hamas who control everyday life there. As too allowing return of the Arab reugees, let's make a deal ok? The day the state of Minnesota returns all land to Native Americans we might consider. For good measure, let's apply this to all 51 US states as well, just to make sure nobody is slighted. Before European "settlement" , Minnesota was populated by the Anishinaabe, and Dakota.. Fort Snelling also acted as a concentration camp intended to aid in the extermination of the Dakota people. So Stevie, you are actually a settler ! Go figure which pot is calling any kettles any colors. Have a good life living in your denial of truth, Mark (Israel) 2.
