ronen ,   new york   (09.27.10)
it's their water reservoir, not israels. if they don't want israel's help then let it stay contaminated.
3. Be careful what you wish for!
Ellen ,   Israel/USA   (09.27.10)
When Im Tirtzu warned against Ben Gurion University and its' political science professors who advocated for a boycott of Israeli Universities Professor Carmi defended their right of academic freedom and free speech. ( even though the other side had no rights in their classrooms), Dr. Veve Gordon called for an international boycott of Israel while in LA. ( YNET 8-22-10) The University agreed he went too far, but did nothing. Now Dr. Gordon may be getting his wish granted. The University must realize you can't have it both ways!
4. US Universities
Moshe ,   US   (09.27.10)
If the UJ calls for a boycott I will call my university senate to boycott UJ. Where I am we have enough people to support such a move.
5. Love it when Leftists feel the pinch of own agendas
William ,   Israel   (09.27.10)
BGU professors voiced loudly in favor of Israeli academic boycotts. Funny how they get upset when their own university gets targeted. Well, that's equality and democracy for you. OUCH!
6. I'm ashamed if this boycott becomes a reality
Jesse the Cynik ,   South Africa/Israel   (09.27.10)
As someone who was born and bred on Kibbutz and later emigrated to South Africa, and also obtained a bachelor's degree at a SA University, I'm afraid this will be a loss much more to SA than to Israel. The academic standards are dropping here rapidly, and if this nonsense is more important than academic partnership, then it is very disturbing indeed.
7. boycot
anyway   (09.27.10)
Funny, Ben Gurion is frequently labelled as a university with lots of left-wing staff. Why don't they begin boycotting with the ACPR, just to give an example? Does that mean, leftism or rightism does not matter at all?
8. How ironic
Arie ,   BaGolan   (09.27.10)
that the most extreme anti-Israel university within our own borders faces an attack by Islamists. Where are all the lefties that condemned the push to boycott BGU by those opposed to its anti-Jew policies? Silence is golden....and telling.
9. IF
Christopher ,   Boston, MASS   (09.27.10)
the racist government of SA has no issue with their citizens dying from dysentery and typhoid to satiate the blood lust of Islam, then who are we to complain? Better BGU should fire its extreme left-wing Jew haters and use their water talents with peoples more friendly
10. Neve Gordon won't care. He'll still keep his post.
Raymond in DC ,   Washington, DC USA   (09.27.10)
Yes, BGU is facing the consequences of the actions of its own professors. But those like Neve Gordon couldn't care less, as he's certain to keep his post. Carmi has made sure of that. (He's still head of the Political Science Department.)
11. Boycot for Boycot
Uzziel   (09.27.10)
Expel every single arab student from every Israeli University that is being boycotted.
12. BGU Politics & Government celebration!
george ,   ashdod   (09.27.10)
Well it had to happen...The BGU Politics and Government Department under the leadership of Neve Gordon, that has long advocated an academic boycott against Israel has finally succeeded in getting their own university boycotted. They must have partied all night after hearing the news.
13. Slap in the face .Initiate our boycotts first.
Roland Seener ,   London England   (09.27.10)
14. to Israel, from South Africa
anon ,   Johannesburg   (09.27.10)
As a holder of a bachlors in marketing & managment. I would like to stress to all in Israel that White south africa supports Israel while the Uneducated black majority of south africa follow racist muslim Leaders in the ANC. The South Africa ambasodor to Israel is a muslim, nough said! In politics Israel loses here, however in business Israel is a winner.(One example is the fact that out of the 10 largest corparations, 6 are in Jewish hands, not to mention that christians afrikaaners are great supporters Of the Jewish state. The racist (to whites) new south africa Is a ticking bomb. Israel - UJ is a racist university now days, like most of South Africa. Its the rule of the jungle... Stay away rather
15. This is Uni. of Johannesburg, Not Witz which is the better 1
rebecca ,   Modiin   (09.27.10)
There are two universities in Johannesburg. this is talking about University of Johannesburg, what used to be RAU. It's the university of lesser status, not that that is an issue when both are loosing their high standards and international credibility. And what exactly has happened in a year that should have changed the terms of this agreement?
16. BGU should be happy
Israel Israeli ,   Tel Aviv   (09.27.10)
One of BGU's most famous professors, Neve Gordon, is leading the demand to boycott Israel. BGU should be celebrating Gordon's success and maybe even pay him a bonus.
17. Neve Gordon is not a Professor. He is still a lecturer so fa
D&D ,   Israel   (09.28.10)
18. Clarification
Tamara ,   Joburg   (09.29.10)
It should be noted that there are several highly accredited universities in South Africa collaborating and working closely with Israeli Institutions. The reference in this article is to the University of Johannesburg (UoJ) and NOT to the main (and largest) university in Johannesburg - the University of the Witwatersrand (WITS), which is at the forefront globally in many fields. As a South African, it is a great pity that the Muslim congregation in South Africa opts to involve religious and political interests and force their one-sided views in academia- which generally strives to achieve non-religious and non-political PROGRESS in their various fields, and such interference merely leads to unproductive REGRESSION!!!
