1. Get real!
Jackson ,   Melbourne   (09.28.10)
What do you think the chances of a new Palestinian state allowing Jewish settlers to live on holy Jewish land? While Palestinian Arabs continue to live a far better life in Israel.... Let the settlers stay where they are, they just won’t be part of Israel, doesn’t that make sense? They can be part of a Palestinian state, or Jordan if they'll have them (which they wont, because at the root of it they don’t want anything to do with jews/christians/others). What are the Palestinians giving up for peace anyway? Israel give back more land and in turn we will continue to pursue your death and destruction; they are our conditions. Take them or leave them - sounds about right doesn’t it?
2. Mazel Tov!
John ,   Toronto, Canada   (09.28.10)
3. Abbas just a messenger boy?
steve from raleigh   (09.28.10)
Why bargain with a messenger boy from the Arab league? What's the point?
4. IOsrael not serious about peace negociations
Philippe Delaporte ,   Marseilles , France   (09.28.10)
Why convene talks between Israel and Palestinians since Natanyahu knew already the outcome and why at this specific date and not before? Is this Natanyahu an idiot or just playing a game with the Palestinians.Never the less Israel is aiming towards big problems if the talks are frozen since Palestinians still suffering.
5. At the outset of this round of negotiations, the sides...
Jehudah Ben-Israel ,   Qatzrin, Israel   (09.28.10)
...agreed to commence negotiations WITHOUT PRECONDITIONS!!! Shortly into the negotiations, the Arabs opted to place a pre-condition: Either you cease all construction for Jews in the DISPUTED territories or we shall leave the negotiations. Israel, rightly, insisted that there is no reason why it should accept a pre-condition regarding an item that is part of the core issues negotiated, that is the future of Jewish villages and towns in the DISPUTED lands. Now that the Arabs failed in their aggressive attempt to dictate to the Jews these pre-conditions, contrary to their initial agreement, they have backed away from it, knowing full well that they are wrong. The person - or rather the team - that has disappointed many Jews in America is Mr. Obama - or rather the Obama/Clinton team - that was supposed not to take sides, but true to his orientation toward the Islamic world... Mr. Obama once again showed hostility to Israel. P.S. If the negotiations stop, the Arabs will prove once again Mr. Abba Eban to be correct when he observed: "The Arabs have never missed an opportunity to miss an opportunity" for peace.
6. Settlements or settlement?
Michael Steiner ,   Bahrain   (09.28.10)
This is one time, perhaps the first time ever, that the blame for failure falls squarely on Israel. The settlements enterprise cannot continue if we ever plan to reach any sort of agreement on coexistence. Of course, those to whom dogma, hubris and stubbornness take precedence over everything else are gleeful at the latest developments. The rest of us, however, are severely disappointed. The act of contiuing the construction is simply inexcusable. We do NOT want Israel to live in hostility and danger for centuries to come; we DO want a settlement, and one of the prerequisited from our side for attaining a settlement is the abandonment of the settlements. So, Netanyahu, what will your legacy be: Settlements or settlement?
7. freeze?
luette ,   Port Angeles WA USA   (09.28.10)
BUILD, they have simply Lied to you for the last ten months to control Israel. They continue to lie, and do not want Peace, you KNOW this. You also know, you will Win any battle that may take place, it is fortold by Him. Believe in the One that has already told your future. He has never failed.
8. Vipers' nest
Curtis ,   USA   (09.28.10)
Attempting to negotiate with the Pals is like trying to make a petting zoo out of a nest of vipers.
9. Why do the "palestinians" need to wait for the Arab League?
Aharon   (09.28.10)
If they are a separate state, why does it matter what the Arab League thinks? Because they're not a separate state and are still the same pan-arab entity that wants to destroy Israel.
10. Here's a Great Idea
Dan ,   Titusville, FL   (09.28.10)
I have a great idea. Why don't the Palestinians have peace talks with Jordan about returning to their homeland? Maybe the Palestinians can also have peace talks with Lebanon allowing them to live and work openly in Lebanon. Here's a thought. How about all fellow Islamic states open their borders to the Palestinians starting with Iran. After all the Whack Job there says he cares so deeply about them. Then we can all have peace.
11. Where were these guys 10 months ago?
Kev ,   Reno USA   (09.28.10)
It is unbelievable to me that they are still talking to these people! The Palestinians have had 10 months to come to the table and talk. Can't everyone see that they waited till the last minute to torpedo this whole process? I want peace as much as the next guy, but how can you have peace with people who don't want it. Arafat's legacy of lies and delusion still lives on. His monkey- boys learned their lessons well.
12. Should never have agreed to a freeze to begin with
BJL ,   usa   (09.28.10)
Now the arabs will always inssist on a freeze and the world buys a little bit more of the palestinian narrative.
13. Neither Israel nor the arabs want peace as it means giving
Bunnie Meyer ,   Los Angeles, CA USA   (09.28.10)
up too many positions. They all talk about how they want peace but abbas wants 100% of the land back and to destroy Israel with returnees and Israel will never give up the land or let arabs back in. There will be as much calm as Israel can impose with superior arms, but there will never be peace, each has too much to relinquish for that to happen.
14. Setters put Netanyahu inpower to keep building, why surprised
Bloodyscot ,   Dallas, Texas   (09.28.10)
With Netanyahu as PM, he will never agree to sign peace deal without ok from Settlers/Zionists with is very unlikely. Enough real pressure from US/EU could force the issue but also unlikely until next year, right before US troops leave Iraq.
15. Cowardly Pals find yet another cheap excuse
Brian Cohen ,   Judean Peoples Front   (09.28.10)
The main equation is this: Fatah+Hamas=warnotpeace The world had high hopes that they could close their eyes to reality and hope that Hamas would go away. Wake up world. It's not settlements, stupid, it's the Palestinians themselves. They couldn't sign a peace treaty today if they were offered 100 percent of the west bank and half of jerusalem. Why? Because Abbas does not speak for Gaza, and Fatah cannot sign a peace treaty without Gaza. And yes, Hamas is still in charge there and is on the record: Hamas will "NEVER" sign a peace treaty with Israel. (caps are mine, but the quote is from several Hamas leaders over the past year). So the Pallies found an excuse to leave the talks, which they didn't want to come to in the first place (because they know they are powerless to sign a peace treaty). However, my government, as usual, ignored reality and played into the Pal's propaganda show by saying nothing. Israel should have walked out of the talks when Palestinian terrorists killed four Israeli civilians. Big tactical PR mistake by Israel, but that's nothing new.
16. Good, nothing to talk about.
Wise Saba ,   Ma'agalim   (09.28.10)
Jordan is Palestine, let them go home, now!
17. the "freeze farce"
tiki ,   belgium   (09.28.10)
This whole 'farce is not about PEACE, but about POLITICS, to show 'who is the strongest and who will 'blink and give in first. Israel gave the PLO, US and the World what they wanted.....a 10 month freeze, now it's done (without the PLO doing anything except moaning, boycotting, foulmouthing and dragging it's feet about everything), and now they want more. "gimme, gimme, gimme" it's never enough, that's what this 'PEACE PROCES,FREEZE FARCE is all about....bringing Natanyahu and Israel to it's knees. Israel keeps it's promisses, the rest of the 'peace partners and 'neutral brokers doesn't! Israel should say loud and clear....STOP. If not, WE didn't learn anything from our history. The WORLD will never be satisfied until Israel/Jews are there where Achmadinejad and 'others before him want us to be
18. Give it 90 Days
Ron ,   OC, USA   (09.28.10)
Then the ball will be in the Pal court. If they can't move away from their position on refugees among others, then the Pals get the blame and Israel can build away. Now, Israel gets the blame-this is just an ill advised call.
19. palestinian aggression
allen werber ,   chicago,usa   (09.28.10)
The Palestinian's aggression and evil intentions are again shown by their rejection of direct talks with Israel and their unilateral suspension of direct talks. Why do they prefer war to talks? Why does the US let them get away with this aggression?
20. To Mr Steiner #6
Frank P ,   Jerusalem   (09.28.10)
The 'Problem' with your opinion sir is that you are prepared only to look at the reaction rather than the action. Something we are are very used to in our dealings with the world. You see as part of the Oslo accords in the 90's Israel was to 'gift' large tracts of the 'disputed' territories in return for recognition by 'Palestinian' Arabs of Israel as a Sovereign Jewish State. They were to remove language from their charter calling for the destruction of the 'Zionist Entity'. They got the land, however they never recognized Israel or adjusted their charter. In other words they lied and they cheated us again of peace. A few days ago in direct talks between officials The 'Palestinian' delegation refused to recognize Israel. How can Israel deal with a 'partner' that will not acknowledge its existence. Enjoy your blinkers Mr Steiner.
21. Freeze a trap
Zev ,   Israel   (09.28.10)
Bibi fell into the trap once. Hopefully he learned from his mistake.
22. Negotiations suspended!
Spencer ,   Israel   (09.28.10)
Don't suspend them, CANCEL them. These palestinians and their rethren DON'T want peace. Thery don't want to see Israel on the map. All these talks are a waste of good money that could be used on feeding the poor. Mitchell is Obama's man and Obama couldn't care less about Israel, so talking with him is also a waste of time.
23. no.3
hebrew prophet ,   israel   (09.28.10)
Good question Steve but check out the part where it says Palestinians are interested in resuming talks etc. so not harm US President Obama and upcoming midterm elections in November; after these midterm elections Obama and his gang of looneys will have had their powers severley curtailed by the American public and the GOP will be back in govt. come 2012 ,in the interim Bibi must play possum and wait for the appropriate moment ?
24. no.10
hebrew prophet ,   israel   (09.28.10)
With the fake Hashemite Queen currently out of her feifdom and her equally fake King alongside in New York ,now would be the best moment to seize the Palestinian capital of Amman and declare a sovereign Palestine homeland as mandated ,by the UN all those decades ago ,but having too many clowns and not enough ringmasters really makes a mockery of anything Palestinian ?
25. # 6
(09.29.10)
You know squat about Israeli politics. Howcome you say "we" & you live in Bahrain ?
