1. Ooh la la! How to remain united ?!! let me help you
Salma ,   Palestine   (09.29.10)
'Jerusalem is not Tehran' very true, why? Jerusalem is the capital of Palestine. Tehran is the capital of Iran. THAT IS ;)
2. Capital of
Dina   (09.29.10)
Palestine is not and never was a recognised State. Israel is a recognised State and Jerusalem is it's capital. Maybe - hopefully one day there will be peace and Jerusalem will be recognised as a Relligion capital. In the meantime I don't think (in fact I hope) that even you can not claim the crown to unity - unless you are a terrorist and believe in killing in the name of peace.
3. Oh Salma
dan ,   London   (09.29.10)
Palestinians only started writing about Jerusalem in 1930 (that is the first recorded year) Before that Palestinians were very happy having no separate identity from their arab brothers. No desire for self determination as their was no self. You are a fictional character. Your neighbours created / harvested and let loose for violence. Palestinians have as much right to Jerusalem as Jews do to Mecca. Namely none! Have a good day Salma ;)
4. Jerusalem is not Tehran?
Vladimir ,   Jerusalem   (09.29.10)
Jerusalem is not and will never be the capital of Sodom. G-d will take care of it! Only 100 participants of this shamefull demonstration guarded by 500 policemen. Five policemen for one provocator. These figures speak volumes.
5. Are these the same feminists ....
Terry ,   Eilat - Israel   (09.29.10)
The ones who have nothing to say about Muslims stoning women for adultery, child marriage, forced marriage, female circumcision, wife beating, second class status for women generally in Muslim countries, honour killings, convicting the victims of rape to flogging, forced wearing of the burka, polygamy? Ah, yes, those feminists.
6. The left think they have a right to tell other people
safta of 12 ,   Israel   (09.29.10)
how to live. Let them look after their own backyard before they try to correct other people's backyard.
7. look I was there,
ecr   (09.29.10)
they have no idea what the separation is all about. They think it has to do with inequality and women's rights. If each of us would respect the other person and behave according to the Torah we wouldn't need any extra measures or parades for that matter.
8. Salma, keep on the good job
Alicia Cohen ,   Santiago de Chile   (09.29.10)
Salma, Palestine will be a country and Jerusalem East will be its capital. No matter what they write here, no matter wishfull thinking. It is as clear as Sinai returned to Egypt and Kosovo became independent. Keep on the good job, young girl. The world backs you.
9. Keep Out of Mea Shearim
Golden Kaftan ,   Yerushalaim   (09.29.10)
Why are these people looking for trouble again ... Keep out of our area .. If you want to protest , do it in Ben Yehuda Street or better still Tel Aviv
10.  haredim sick and extremist behavior as they denigrate the
joe kfar saba israel   (09.29.10)
womans they want sidewalk apart they want bus apart everything apaprt to be together between them ok lets allow the gay marriage for u people as you reject with ur machism and brain washed low level thinking lets make it possible!!!!!
11. Missing the point
Israeli grandma   (09.29.10)
No body is trying to tell the good lady what to cook in her kitchen. The point is that the public street is just that and should not be taken over by any sect. Clearly modest dress worn in Mea Shearim by non residents is basic good manners, but forcing people not of these sects to walking in a sex-separated manner in a public place is bizarre, and not required by the Jewish faith.
12. #8 Alicia, there are a large Palestinian community in Chile.
Salma ,   Palestine   (09.29.10)
There is even a football club named Palestino, it is one of the most prestigious social clubs in Santiago; hope you know them :) if no, try to visit them, I'm sure you will be welcomed by friendly and hospitable people.
13. Goodness me, Golden #9 ...
Paul ,   London England   (09.29.10)
..."keep out of OUR area" indeed!!! Should the Police not refuse to enforce law and order, there would be no need to protest about the pompous bully boys you seem to admire.
14. Very good, except...
Michael Steiner ,   Bahrain   (09.29.10)
...even Tehran doesn't have segregated sidewalks!
15. the street is not her kitchen
sleepless   (09.29.10)
and this article is not about the Israeli-palestine conflict. Keep to the topic-what is the connection, Salma. I will write about apples and you will cry victim.
16. even Tehran doesn'r segregate sidewalks..
Rami of Nazareth ,   Israel   (09.29.10)
this is very terrible,
17. Alright now, the next petition to demonstrate
Zvika ,   Jerusalem   (09.29.10)
should be against female circumcision and honor killings. Among other things. Get with it oh you champions of justice and equality.
18. Dozens vs dozens
menachemP ,   new york usa   (09.29.10)
Tricky Journalism in headlines will not change the situation. There are Dozens and there are dozens Dozens denotes masses of people dozens means 40 people who other news agencies report actually marched. Ynet your anti-charedi bias is showing.
19. Why not just go all the way...
Nick Sporek ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (09.29.10)
Men and women should live in separate cities with a giant mechitza in between and there should be no male female contact after the age of 2 until its time to procreate at special designated times determined by the rabbis. There should also be a lane for fast and slow people on the side walks thats the real problem here. ;^P
20. #8
Dina   (09.29.10)
only Sinai WAS Egypt and Kosovo was always there. Palestine is a historical land that recieved it's name so as not to carry on calling it Judea. Nothing to do with the people that lived there and DEFINZITZLY nothing to do with a Palestinian people.
21. segregatio on sidewalks
dr daniel mostrel ,   paris   (09.29.10)
as a traditionalist jew i am really afraid of what i read sidewalks are for everyone i never heard any country who can allow this segregation too much is too much basta i will go with my kipa on my hair ...and with hand of my wife who will forbid me to do it?
22. Palestine???
David ,   Silver Spring   (09.29.10)
Salma-- Sorry, but you've been miseducated. Jerusalem has never been an Arab capital. Never. It has always been the Jewish capital.
23. Good idea # 9
Hillis ,   Florida   (09.29.10)
That's what I say,"Keep Out of Mea Sharim"! Who wants to have anything to do with these trouble makers.
24. Yes, the public streets are NOT charadi kitchens where
Bunnie Meyer ,   Los Angeles, CA USA   (09.29.10)
anyone may walk without invitation. Charadi have a right to their religious lifestyle but no right to keep women from walking on the PUBLIC streets that are cared for by ALL the taxpayers.
25. #1 salma DO NOT NEED YOU HELP
Israeli ,   U.S.A, Israel   (09.29.10)
Oh Salma you are dreming never was a Palestine Jerusalem it is a capital of Israel ,move on and write you artical in Gaza ,You are antisemetic ,i wondering were are you living???
26. segregated side walks
Yoel ,   Ossining,NY   (09.29.10)
#5 Terry - I usually agree with your talkbacks, but not on this one Terry. It is totally irrelevant how Arabs treat women; it is of critical importance how Jewish women are treated. This is a Public street, not a private one. A group of vigilantes see fit to take over the streets and they determine who can use it. Today they seek to restrict the use of the sidewalks based on gender; tommorrow they can segregate passerbys according to those who wear a kipa and those who don't. And the basis for this vigilantiism? The Torah? No, it's these vigilanties who make up their own rules and expect everyone to go along with them.
27. This will never end ...
A.Keresh ,   Jerusalem   (09.29.10)
Till when you people are gonna stop fighting like chickens This article is about ultra-orthodox community and you're talking about something else Peace begins when the people within stop arguing in this blind fashion All this hatred in the air triggered from propaganda and very racist individuals who think they're GODS is so irritating No one is better than the other, we all have the right to live in peace and dignity. We're all the same and there is no place for these kind of people in a peaceful land Yea israelis were here in this land in fact Arab jews were here but i don't think the palestinian people landed from the moon before the creation of the israeli state in 1948 You just find a damn way to work it out together and stop these endless stupid arguments
28. radical islam? shaaria law?
Jackson ,   Melbourne   (09.30.10)
the haredis are taking some of their interpretations way too far and potentially reading them wrong. they need to become more respectful to other beliefs and womens rights otherwise they will end up being like islam.
29. I too disapprove to this weird "sidewalk segregation".
Bat Zion ,   Centre, Israel   (09.30.10)
I also disapprove of separation on Beth Shemesh busses. Haredi has gone really mad. This should stop.
30. Salma
Malone ,   Hfx   (09.30.10)
Why don't you try Ma'an News? You might get more sympathy for your pathetic cause there.
