1. Nooooo!
Salma ,   Palestine   (09.30.10)
if Abu Mazen does finally agree to resume negotiations without a complete settlement freeze, this will mean one thing Freezing Fatah forever!
2. Israel MUST end the Talks
Marcel ,   Florida   (09.30.10)
Israel must tell the International Community that the talks are off until Hamas, the real obstacle to peace is removed PERMANENTLY. Tjis will reveal the true intentions of the US and others towards Israel ! Israel it's time to get off the stupid pill and thnk smart. No peace is coming to Israel by capitulating to ANY US demands, only the ovens and destruction.
3. LOL, LOL, LOL!
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (09.30.10)
"Palestinians may continue talks if construction limited to settlement blocs." Oh, isn't that special! Whatever on earth makes Abbas -- or any other "Palestinian(s)" -- think that they can set terms and conditions? I guess they have forgotten that they are a vanquished people, with a history of self-destructive choices and a strong tendency to turn towards terrorism on a global scale. The "Palestinians" get whatever crumbs Israel may very generously and graciously deign to throw them. If they keep running their mouths, they will get nothing.

That, sir, is an excellent point. Kudos to you. Unless and until the "Palestinians" get their own house in order, Israel will not "negotiate." Well ... there go the next six millennia! The "Palestinians" are incompetent and incapable of getting their own house in order. Sweeeeet. Love the way Abbas allowed himself to be painted into a corner. Well .... he never has been the sharpest knife in the butcher block .....
5. #1 If Israel is keeping 'the blocs' anyway ...
Janice Cohen ,   ירושלים   (09.30.10)
there really is no useful purpose in limiting building in these areas. It would be unfair to Abbas to punish him for agreeing to such a formula.
6. 1967 borders not a problem
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (09.30.10)
The June 11, 1967 borders, that is. ;-)

Why hasn't Israel learned to play htis game ? Threaten to leave the talks unless the jihadists comply There are many reasonable demands that Israel has and yet there is not the spine to stand and demand ANYTHING coming from Israel. Israel has been conditioned to fall into line, the line that does not lead to peace.
8. Palestians #1 exports: lies, violence, hatred, and selfpity
Alexander ,   NJ, USA   (09.30.10)
Arabs have been trying to sell their political movement "Palestinian-ism" to the world since 1967, which has been mostly accepted. Palestinians continue to attack Israeli's killing indiscriminately men, woman, and children. They continue to indoctrinate hatred for Jews and Israel into their children. They are big hypocrites, asking the world to feel sorry for them then turning around and doing the same exact thing that they have been complaining about on their own people and also asking the world not to care when they kill Israeli's. This has been their trended for many years and the question must be asked what future would result for Israel if this trend continues? I know many people feel that these talks are all for show to win political support and that ultimately no one is interested in peace. I think they are wrong because the show has no substance to it now and will not have any until it's finished. Once a peace agreement is made then and only then can Israel really begin to prosper. Creating a Palestinian state would rid the Palestinians of their most effective weapon "victim-hood." They will no longer be able to claim ignorance to terrorism. They will have to be responsible partners for ensuring peace and fighting terrorism. Yitzhak Rabin once said "We need to fight terror as if there was no peace, and pursue peace as if there was no terror." This dualistic mentality is the very approach Israel needs now.
9. Bad strategic thinking on Israel's part
Paul Mirbach   (09.30.10)
How did israel allow itself to get into this PR mess in the first place? At the same time, Abbas stated categorically that he would never recognise Israel as national home for the Jews. Instead of allowing itself to be drawn into the issue of the freeze as the focal point, Israel should have made the Palestinian refusal to basically recognise Israel's legitimate right to exist as the focal point. We missed out and once again played the Palestinian game. Shame on the PR guys.
10. freeze
colin   (09.30.10)
What freeze It is gone and over !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Nothing to discuss Mitchell -you lost Go play marbles with abbas. It is very much more gratifying.
11. Settlements
Daz ,   UK   (09.30.10)
Settlements aren't the major problem, it's borders. 90% of settlers are there for economic reasons, cheap housing ,only 10% are there for idealogical reasons. The 90% will take compensation to move back to Israel
12. Who wants to bet that Bibi will give in?
Jack ,   LA, USA   (09.30.10)
I really believe that Bibi is as spineless as Olmert was. I think he's going to fold under Obama an Mitchell pressure. O I hope I'm wrong.
13. Freeze? Sure! Construction freeze for violence freeze.
Brian Cohen ,   Judean Peoples Front   (09.30.10)
I'm willing to continue the freeze in exchange for a total freeze on Palestinian violence. The construction freeze will be commensurate with the violence freeze. Let's start by building four new homes in response to the Palestinians murdering four Israeli civilians after the talks started. If they stop the violence, we'll stop the construction. For every molotov cocktail, rocket, mortar round, rock thrown at a windshield, bullet fired - well, heck, we'll build a house for each one. Let the Palestinians learn that if they want peace, then they should act accordingly. They lie to the press, but tell us the truth through their actions. They don't want peace.
