1. US Attack on Iran
Eugene Graczyk ,   Sausalito, CA USA   (09.30.10)
This demand flies in the face of American interests and is more likely a reflection of the influence of the Israeli lobby. We are already fighting two wars and simply cannot afford the resources for a third. If Israel wants war with Iran, fight it and pay for it yourselves and absorb the consequences on your own.
2. Obama must first fool stupid USA Jews with Bibi
(09.30.10)
3. Enemies within, Jewish Congressmen
Steve Benassi ,   Silver Bay, MN USA   (09.30.10)
...putting Israel's interests ahead of America's interests.
4. God bless USA Jew Joe Lieberman
Mark Kleiman ,   Florida, USA   (09.30.10)
...and the rest of us USA Jews who support him. A US attack on Iran would connect the so called "two" war fronts into one USA / Israel victory =)
5. #1. Everyone will be under threat by Islamic Jihadists
Jae ,   Lynn US   (09.30.10)
who are more willing to die than christian messianists. in fact Jihad is the ethos of islam, whereas passivity is the ethos of christianity. You should be concerned for your kids and their kids. nuclear iran is johad iran. dont kid yourself ps you have another jew hating relative gracyk on the east coast (maryland) in DC area, or did you you move to join the white supremacist movement?
6. Curious Report
Mark of Lewiston ,   Lewiston USA   (09.30.10)
If Berman and Lieberman want a war with Iran, they can get it started quicker than Obama. They are in Congress. And the power to declare is vested in Congress. Have they introduced and started lobbying their Congressional colleagues for a third US middle East War? No Bot even Bush had the Chutzpa to try that. Presidents don't declare wars. And Congress won't because they don't want the responsibility for the American deaths or for finding the financing. And the Republicans would vote NO anyway. That is what Republicans do. If Lieberman and Berman are serious, they would have their resolution introduced long before now. They would also have arranged a source for the trillions of dollars it would cost and be making a case to the American public as to why our kids have to die. None of this is happening.
7. To #1. You're absolutely wrong.
Edward ,   New York, USA   (09.30.10)
Like the majority of Bay area residents you are detached from reality. First of all Iran is a major supporter of the insurgencies in Iraq and Afghanistan. If it wasn't for Iran the US would have cleanup Afghanistan a long time ago. Secondly the US needs Middle East oil, green energy or not it will need it for decades to come. Third of all and most important, the US can't contain a regime that is governed by messianic genocidal people who have stated that they are willing to immolate themselves in a nuclear war, as the cost would be worth the outcome. I suggest you focus on working on California's problems first pretty soon they won't be able to afford the electricity for their traffic lights.
8. Mr. Lieberman and his Flock should move to Is
Harvey ,   chadds ford PA   (09.30.10)
9. Mr. Lieberman and his Flock should moveto Israel...
Harvey ,   Chadds ford PA   (09.30.10)
Their interest CLEARLY lies in Israel's and to be more effective..They should move to Israel.. The settlers will welcome them and Lieberman may fee at home with his cousin over there.. OPENLY...then and ONLY then go for attacking Iran..We lost too many Americans MR. Lieberman.. No more for you your cronies..
10. Warmongers !!! ,...
split ,   USA   (09.30.10)
Somebody shoot these draft dodgers please ,...
11. 1, 3, 9 you make no sense
Israel Israeli ,   Tel Aviv   (09.30.10)
Israel has nothing to gain from an American attack on Iran. The only people pushing for such an attack are the Saudis, and they are realizing it is too late. Two years ago, there might have been a window to attack but Ahmadinejad cleverly used Obama's racism, manipulating him to focus American energies against Israel. In the meantime, Iran has strengthened its military (especially commando forces in Saudi) and its alliance with Turkey and Russia. Hezbolla and Hamas are stronger than ever and Mubarak is close to his deathbed. The fact is that Obama's hatred for Jews damaged American interests.
12. Those guys loyalty is not to the US that for sure.
Sam   (09.30.10)
US should tell them, tell your Israeli guys to go ahead with it, we are not playing ball.
13. stop iran now
fightintwo wars lol?   (09.30.10)
@post1 us is fighting two wars ? are you kidding. this is no war man. look at you casualties - it's nothing. usa and the high tech air force can bomb anything anytime anywhere man. i think the us should stop iran instantly. they have the power to do so.
14. to #'s 1,6,9 the Ostrich Strategy
Alexander ,   NJ, USA   (10.01.10)
As I sit and read your thoughts on the issue I am reminded of a famous quote by Martin Niemoller my father once told me "In Germany they came first for the Communists, and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a communist. Then they came for the Jews and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Jew. Then they came for the trade unionists, and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a trade unionist. Then they came for the Catholics and I didn't speak up because I was a Protestant. Then they came for me and by that time no one was left to speak up." History has shown that the ostrich strategy and xenophobic mentality of nations causes more harm for them in the long run. Had the US and other world powers been committed to stopping Hitler and the Nazi's sooner rather than later then a lot of people's lives would have been saved and we would not even know the catastrophic calamities that WWII brought upon mankind. There are hostile forces in the world today that have for some time been building their forces and waging war on us. For years Osama Bin-Ladin was ignored by America, and on September 11, 2001 the US saw just what it's ignorance costs. We as Americans cannot afford the price that such ignorance brings. In conjunction with Martin Niemoller's statement I am reminded of a quote by a famous English philosopher Edmund Burke "All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing." We cannot ignore the fact that Iran has not been forthcoming with it's nuclear program. Iran is ruled by religious fanatics that seek to dominate the world. They have consistently called for the destruction of America's greatest ally in the M.E. - Israel. Also it was the Obama administration that halted the delivery of bunker-buster bombs suitable for strikes on some of Iran's Nuclear sites to Israel after they had already been purchased by Israel. To blame Israel is naive, instead blame the Obama administration for not letting Israel do exactly what your asking for. Also do I need to remind my fellow Americans that Israel is "the West’s first line of defense in the battle with Islamist radicals who seek to destroy Western freedom and terrorize whomever tries to stand in their way." (http://www.tabletmag.com/news-and-politics/46114/friends-indeed/)
15. Also to #'s 1,6,9
Alexander ,   NJ, USA   (10.01.10)
"The current Iranian regime is as equal a threat to the United States as it is to the Jewish State. It is America, not Israel, that (Iranian President Mahmoud) Ahmadinejad calls the Great Satan."(http://www.ynetnews.com/articles/1,7340,L-3844370,00.html)
16. Lieberman and Berman are right...
Chris Rettenmoser ,   Bayerisch Gmain Germ   (10.01.10)
The US must threaten Iran with a military attack in the nearest future, maybe after the November elections...
17. #12_Sam, to whom are you loyal, to Allah or to the devil?
Guido ,   Milano, Italy   (10.01.10)
Ask yoursel this very simple question and start to shiver, you are just fooling yourself.
18. 14/15 Alex - We Have a Constitution
Mark of Lewiston ,   Lewiston USA   (10.01.10)
Maybe you heard, the US has a Constitution that separates some government functions from others. If you want a war, tell your Congressman. And tell your Congressman how you want it paid for. Then decide if your neighbor's kid should die, because that will happen to somebody's kid, maybe even yours. Wars don't happen in a vacuum. A President can respond to an attack on the US, but only short term. Even Bush had to get authorization from Congress for Afghanistan and Iraq (Iraq, beforehand). The US elected a President, not a king.
19. 10 Split - They are NOT Serious
Mark of Lewiston ,   Lewiston USA   (10.01.10)
If they were serious, they would introduce a Declaration of War Resolution. That is a Congressional power ONLY. It is election season and this brings in contributions and placates the right wing. And a note to Ed in NY (7) - Iran is anti-Taliban and assisted the US in Afghanistan before the invasion of Iraq and declaration of the "axis of evil." They are still anti-al Qaida and anti-Taliban. Bush and the Neocons never thought they needed to finish anything. So they didn't. But if you need a war, sell your house and enlist. My kids are still serving and have served. We didn't take a drop of Iraq's oil.
20. Gentlemen, the US will not wage war for your security
Cameron ,   USA   (10.01.10)
That is the ice-cold reality of it. Affairs are ugly enough on many levels already here in the US, and the populace across the board will not tolerate the opening of a 3rd war front. It would be the guaranteed death of the Obama presidency, and both Democrats & Republicans would be side by side to take his head. Bottom line: Israel will have to adjust to the Persians having nuclear weapons. A damn spooky scenario, but it really does seem inevitable at this point. I do not like it in the slightest, but the US & Israel really have hit the limits in terms of military action putting an end to Persian nuclear development. Air strikes would only delay Persian ambitions in this area, and the US citizenry will simply NOT tolerate the possibility of a full-scale land invasion to topple the mullahs in Tehran.
21. Absolutely wrong #20
Israeli 2   (10.01.10)
But it might be the last one for a very long time.
22. #20, Cameron, NO ONE EVER spoke of
Chris Rettenmoser ,   Bayerisch Gmain Germ   (10.01.10)
a full-scale land invasion... It is completely sufficient to take out the key elements of the nuke program... The mullahs will be toppled in the not so distant future and the new government of Iran will have OTHER problems to tackle than a wrecked nuke program...!!!! IT IS EASY...JUST DO IT...YES WE CAN...!!!! YES WE C A N...........................
23. 22 Chris - Germany Can Do It Then
Mark of Lewiston ,   Lewiston USA   (10.01.10)
The US has a War Powers Act that prohibits the President from starting a war on his own. Attacking Iran would be just that and would subject him to impeachment. But if you think it's such a cakewalk, talk to Merkel and get 'er done. Just be sure to fly your flag. If not, then the two run a war declaration up the flag pole and see who salutes.
24. #23, Mark, Clinton, yes Clinton struck
Chris Rettenmoser ,   Bayerisch Gmain   (10.01.10)
Iraq without any declaration of war... But he nearly became impeached only because of the fun stuff he was doing in the White House... So your pseudo legal argument is pure and simple b. s. .....
25. # 27 - Not so ,...
split ,   USA   (10.01.10)
Provoke an incident (Gulf of Tonkin), invade without declaring a war then you bomb the sh.t out of them and call it a conflict.
26. Iran's non-existent nuclear weapons
Michael Rivero ,   Honolulu, USA   (10.01.10)
Of course, the fact that nobody has found any evidence that Iran actually HAS a weapons program is irrelevant, as is the fact that the people claiming they do are the same ones who told us Iraq had nuclear weapons, which as it turns out, was a lie.
27. 24 Chris
Mark of Lewiston ,   Lewiston USA   (10.01.10)
Bush got a Congressional war powers resolution. Clinton acted after an attack on the Cole. Both had to find the legal rationale to act. It's all set out in the War Powers Act, a legacy from Vietnam. You can google it.
28. joe lieberman
Ben ,   U S A   (10.01.10)
I am about as sure of Iran's weapons program as I am about Joe Lieberman continuing to molest his daughter. Does a simple open statement from an unknown source make for a credible alligation?
29. attack Iran
Ben ,   U S A   (10.01.10)
I am about as convinced about Iran's weapons program as I am about Joe Lieberman continuing to molest his own daughter. Now, does an open ended statment from an unknon source constitute an alligation as much a one from an unreliable lier??
30. "Special" ally, Israel
Ed Kendrick ,   Kansas City, USA   (10.01.10)
USS Liberty, Lavon Affair, 9-11 lies and two occupations decimating cultures and killing millions...what more can the US offer up in blood and treasure for the criminal ZIonists who run Israel? Senator Lieberman is a traitor to the Constitution and an architect of the Orwellian future of humanity--if he would have his depraved way. The voice of good Jewish people must be heard soon to stop the stampede to perpetual war and tyranny.
