31. Lieberman
Glenn ,   Santa Monica, CA   (10.01.10)
When one reads this article and sees the protest w/PLO flags, Lieberman's POV makes some sense. He's not saying transfer...he's saying re-draw the border...get the maximum number of Jews in Israel and the max number of Arabs in the new Arab country. This is what the UN tried to do in 1947, this is what Clinton/Obama are stressing in Jerusalem...so why is this now a problem. Lieberman's style and directness makes some feel uneasy. These people want to live "on the land" but don't want to live in the Jewish State called Israel.
32. Justice has to be served
Rami of Nazareth ,   Israel   (10.01.10)
every community riots in Israel. Haridi jews riot, block streets, stone police, etc.. Settler riot, kill palestininas, have violent confrontations with soldiers, and cause them bodily injury.. still no one get killed by police/soldiers. The moment israeli-arab riot, they get shot dead. Justce has to be served, killers has to be punished
33. Kfar Kana
Larry ,   Palo Alto, US   (10.01.10)
When I lived on Kibbutz in the 1980s, I worked for a year in a furniture factory with Arabs from Kfar Kana. I have to wonder if some of my former coworkers were at this rally today. PS - Terry, please tell us anyhow.
34. Barry
Larry ,   Palo Alto   (10.01.10)
The Arabs of Kfar Kana were born in Israel. They are minority citizens of a Jewish state. Regarding Jewish identity, you know nothing. Bialik - look him up - said though he was born in E Europe in reality he was born in Jerusalem. This is the truth for every Diaspora Jew who has not yet assimilated - and for many who have. We know the latter because of anti-Semitism. We know the former (Bialik's heart) because Israel exists.
35. Nu? Go check the Palestinian's level of racism. Oy vay!
Grandma Savta ,   Israel   (10.01.10)
What a bunch of silly peopel you talkbeckers are. Why don't you go ask the Palestinians about their own racism? You'll be shocked to your shorts how vile they are? Don't you remember what they did to the Jews in Chebron? You think they have changed so much since then? Of course they haven't. You're just such silly putzes that you're too wishy washy to go ask them.
36. Patience
olim hadashim ,   tel aviv/israel   (10.01.10)
The patience shown by the Israeli people against this mentality as articulated in the article is extraordinary.Maybe a leader like the late Meir Kahane would have much more mandates today if given the chance.
37. Bible demands separation, segregation and discrimination
observer   (10.01.10)
After restating his "abhorrence" (Lev 20:23) towards the previous inhabitants of the land and his reasons for driving them out, G-d promises their land "flowing with milk and honey" – a clear reference to Exodus 33:3 – to his people declaring: "I am the Lord your God; I have separated you from the peoples" (Lev 20:24). Ezra marks this separation with his famous term "the holy seed" (Ezra 9:2), "zera hakodesh" in Hebrew, which compels the entire community to dissolve all inter-marriages, getting rid of foreign wives and their children (Ezra 10:3).
38. If the government will arm Jewish volunteers
jason white ,   afula,israel   (10.01.10)
Veterans of the I.D.F., then these "rallies" could end very differently. No one Jew or arab that has not served in the I.D.F. should be allowed to sit in the knesset, vote, work in government or have weapons and drivers licenses. Time to move them out of our Jewish land and retake all our holy sites.
39. I'm confused
Arn ,   Yehud   (10.01.10)
They are wildly waving Palestinian flags but stoutly reject having the borders adjusted so that their towns shift from Israel to Palestine? So let them wave their flags, raise their fists, and throw stones...let them complain about racism... they fool nobody. The Israel reality remains their first choice... a fact they try so desperately to hide.
40. 34 Larry - This is a bunch of crap.
Steve ,   UK   (10.01.10)
Outside of delusional Jews everybody recognizes and accept people rights to their place of birth. You guys with your self pity and righteousness are nuts.
41. #26 - credible sources using fact and basic journalist skill
William ,   Israel   (10.01.10)
What's a good news source? Good question as the days of dry, factual news without personal commentary or political agendas are gone since Walter Cronkite days in the late 1960s. That means following strict journalistic procedures and adhering to "uncovering the truth" not just "the truth that sells". It seems CNN, BBC, Al-Jazeera, FoxNews, NYT, Huffington Post, etc. all have an agenda which is to sensationalize and gain more readership - capitalism at its best. This leaves out the media which are obvious opinion outlets for its govt, like Al-Manar, Maan, Press TV, etc. for obvious reasons. Still, with the fact that just about no news source is really credible, you're comfortable to still cite them, furthering the mis-information in order to push the agenda. Shame on you and your attempts to drastically lower the global collective IQ. Are you familiar with Venn diagrams? Consider three circles, semi-superimposed, as 3 different ideological journalistic positions: Left, Right, and independent. Where all three stories of the same incident coincide, THAT is where you will find the truth in the noise. I know, I know. It takes a bit of patience and desire to know the truth, but you source Amira Hass - an admitted rabid anti-Israel "journalist", and wikipedia - a website of 1000 opinions.
42. #26 - Ignoring you, or are you obsessive attention whore?
William ,   Israel   (10.01.10)
The truth was I haven't seen this question until now, because I do spend my time on other issues in my life and those of my community to be involved in. I don't spend my time on the computer 24/7. You follow the Arab path of obsessive compulsiveness focusing on Israel's existence and war - it consumes you. I, like many others, choose to expend my energy in raising a family, helping those less fortunate, and my own knowledge. We can see what obsessive compulsive behavior does to a population like "Palestinians" or any other Arab State - more violence, lower literacy rates, radicalization, hate without reason, distorted realities, lack of will power to create their own better future and egoism. Sorry I offended you by decidedly NOT choosing to implode my world into an emotional chaos of hate and hubris. Though it seems to fit you just fine.
43. To: Larry at No. 34
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (10.01.10)
Brilliant post! Thank you. Sarah
44. #6 - surely those quotes are not taken directly
William ,   Israel   (10.01.10)
The English in those quotes, which people tend to cite as fact, are written in colloquial style and attributed to an ancient text in another language with ancient grammar style. Could it be that you, Observer, just took a small snippet of a sentence, and devoid of context, added your own commentary based solely in your narrow perspective and limited experiences? You are hardly the person whom I would seek out to give critical analysis of anything. Case in point - though you cite some ancient text (poorly, I might add), the real question here is - are these ancient directives actually used in practical form today? Unlike Islam which remains in the 7th century by their own forced mandates, Judaism has adapted to modern times and hence, no one is stoned or hung in city squares based on dishonorable conduct.
45. #13 - right, "Palestinians" pay for their own history
William ,   Israel   (10.01.10)
the unjustified racist massacres of Jews in the 1920s, the calls for genocide of Jews in the 1940s, the active plan of Arabs to illegally migrate into the region and squat on open land then fight to dislodge non-Muslim residents. The endless cross-border attacks on civilians and unilateral wars against their neighbors - be it Israel, Jordan, or Lebanon. The decades of sucking at the teet of global welfare only to extort more with threats of violence. The introduction of previously unknown terror tactics and violence on the world. And the continued hate campaigns that try to re-write history to break the ties of Jews to their own spiritual center for 3500 years. I was born in Israel - so was the majority of Israelis, so they deserve to live free on their own land. Problem is - Jews DO have land deeds that go way back (refer to the Sheik Jarrah story), and Arabs show up with rusty keys and a lovely story. Our grievances are not with the Turks, Romans, or Germans, for they today do not call for the genocide of Jews while "Palestinians" still do and refuse - since 1947 - to accept co-existence. For their hubris and terrorism - they continue to pay, and rightly they should.
46. :: William - #26
Matty Groves ,   Fairport   (10.01.10)
Yeah I thought you would refuse to answer my simple question. It is a common trait among Ynuts to belittle every source of information that they think is ‘anti-Semitic’ yet they can never state which of their sources are not ‘anti-Semitic’. I guess that is because they are ashamed to admit that they read and believe all the rubbish on JihadWatch and other such hate sites. But I understand where you are coming from as your sources of information would not stand up to any scrutiny. Poor show really!
47. #32 - who's justice, Rami?
William ,   Israel   (10.01.10)
Are you speaking of justice that meets the opinion of the Arab street, or justice based on facts? This isn't as racial an issue as you're trying to make it. The Arabs are using the same tired argument that lazy Leftists revert to as soon as confronted - "it's racism!!" Rather than judge different riots based on race, try comparing riots side-by-side honestly, intellectually: how high is the violence level, how many violent are there, are population elders calming or inciting, are violent weapons like guns being used, what is their history of violence, and finally - are they protesting one issue or the general existence of Israel? You'll find very different degrees which will place the Arab riots of 2000 in the major violence category. It wasn't Haradim or settlers who assisted war criminals to blow up civilians. It wasn't Haradim or settlers who called for the State to be destroyed and replaced by their own. And I've never heard of a time when during any protest, a Haradi or settler shot weapons at police. Yet - Israeli Arabs have on all three counts, and the Triangle is known for extremist violence and close seditious ties with "Palestinian" terror groups. These guys lynched an IDF soldier who was already disarmed and bound, and claim it was self-defense. You mentioned that it was "Jewish policy since 1948" to exclude Arabs from society. I wonder - when an entire population has risen up to expel or kill you and your family, are you able to immediate forgive, trust, and share? I doubt it. Arabs tried to kill, tried to destroy, and still try to revise history and delegitimize the State and its institutions. Many Arabs do not pay their taxes to their State nor fulfill their own obligations as equal citizens. I'm sorry to say this - but after 90 years of tensions, it's really on the Arabs to show they want to be equal in our collective futures and build trust again. MK Tibi, Zoabi, and the others are NOT helping your case at all!
48. #37 - Jews don't practice this today, Muslims do
William ,   Israel   (10.01.10)
Big difference. Muslims are living in 7th century BCE, and you're stuck in the 10th century BC. Either way, the both of you are not HERE in reality.
49. Thanks, Sarah
Larry ,   P Alto   (10.01.10)
I appreciate your steadfastness. There are truths that manifest themselves in different ways. The truth of our connection to the land shows up in different ways. The Steve's and others have to deny Jewish history because every other tradition and system of thought - or most - are based on one variation or another of Replacement Theology. So Steve's ancestors can conquer Britain and then much of the globe, Americans can take Hawaii and the Philippines, Russia whatever it wants...because that's the jungle, and the law there. It infuriates them to see a people returned by right and need to its land, because it provokes awareness that no cause is more just than Jewish renewal. And that's too much to bear.
50. #46 - Not sure if your sources are "anti-semetic"
William ,   Israel   (10.02.10)
however, they're just not good journalism, bordering on libel by purporting conjecture and purposely factual distortions. I'm not offended by any obvious racism by these sources, per se. I'm offended at their attempts to portray themselves as credible sources of journalistic writing when in fact they are not. It's called lying, and you're buying into it without even an ounce of cynicism into the validity of such claims is what's more embarrassing. I see the very real distortion in news media, on all sides, and offered a methodology to narrow in on the truth. Seeing how you circumvented that part of the discussion shows you have no real intention of finding the truth, unless it comes from your own "mind". Conspiracy theorists often think this way too, which is why conspiracy is rampant in the Arab world and reality is so...boring. For example, you assume I read JihadWatch and other sites you claim as "hateful". I know you will continue to insist on it though you have no shred of proof, thus again, you prove my point that you and your "news" choices (quotes definitely intended) are simply like-minded lemmings, with an agenda. This exact situation supports the new sociologist perspective that people with hard ideologies see ONLY news that fit their own beliefs and discount those that do not - all sub-consciously. Though I question whether you truly do so sub-consciously given your rants lately.
51. Hating one's enemies is not racism
(10.02.10)
Arabs are enemies of the Jewish people and of the Jewish state of Israel. It is impossible fir them to identify with Israel. They are not loyal citizens and they never will be. Any settlement or agreement with PA must include transfer of them from Israel everything else is a waste of time. Their population doubled over the last 20 years.
52. Leiberman is Correct
ron ,   oc,usa   (10.02.10)
These Arabs must belong to one of the 22 soon to be 23 Arab countries of their choice.
53. Don't confuse anger with racism. We do not hate Israeli Arab
Bat Zion ,   Centre, Israel   (10.02.10)
we are angry at them for what they do.
54. What do they expect
Paul   (10.02.10)
News flash: People are human, including Israeli Jews. We too have feelings. As a parent who sent my kids to a Jewish-Arab school in the Gallilee, the October riots of 2000 were a watershed year and took us totally by surprise. The violence and the riots in our area were really frightening. Jewish settlements were cut off and under siege by hundreds of angry Arab rioters, burning tyres and hurling rocks. They tried to burn down a Defence Industry plant with fire bombs. They were most certainly NOT sitting docilely by, knitting and they intentionally targetted unarmed Jewish Israelis, including children. The police have a job to do: to protect its citizens and maintain law and order. Yes, perhaps they were overzealous, but they were taken by surprise, and those who overstepped the line were prosecuted. And all this, why? Because Sharon visited the Temple Mount. Before the riots, the mood was moving towards coexistence and cooperation in the Gallilee. The RIOTS caused the Jews here to lose their trust that they have Arab partners in this dream that we could live peacefully together, and rethink their position - their FRIENDS rioted against them, stoned their cars and burnt their barns. This distrust is what has led to the remark that "racism" has increased. If you piss in the well from which you drink, what do you expect? Mineral water?
55. Why don't Israeli Jews commemorate terror attacks 1 by 1?
Esther` ,   Netherlands   (10.02.10)
Sbarro Pizza, Haifa beach café, Pesach massacre, wedding massacre, bus thrown into ravine. Jews don't hold grudges. In any normal state the anyone would commemorate their own death and not let their enemies run rampant. The world forgets Jewish deaths because the Jews are silent, which is both unfair to the victims and stupid from a 'hasbara' point of view. And for all those people who say that Israel is a racist state: in which Arab state can you commemorate freely the atrocities like wholesale slaughter of Kurds and the obliteration of the Jewish minorities altogether? Only in the Jewish country can the enemies of the state protest freely against their employers and protectors. Yes, employers, for Arabs can work for Jews without fear of a knife in their backs unlike their Jewish employers, who have to look over their shoulders daily. And in which Arab country does the army and police protect the homes of the minorities like the ones of the silent majority? Yes, protect, because every rocket attack that is stopped by the IDF is one less over Arab homes as well. And every border incursion is a danger for the Arabs too.
56. :: William - #50
Matty Groves ,   Fairport   (10.02.10)
I fully agree that some media outlets can be biased and by and large I try to use the more internationally respected outlets. What “discussion”? You were asked a very simple question which you either cannot or will not answer because it involves pinning your colors to your sleeve. If you will not cite what media outlets/info sources you consider ‘fair and balanced’ you have no creditability in criticizing the sources I or others use. It is extremely childish in many ways, it is like someone saying they don’t like the color Red and then refusing to say what color they do like. Like I have stated previously in my experience pro-Israel supporters will never admit to what respectable media sources or information resources they consider fair and balanced in the same way that they will never admit which Human Rights Orgs they consider trustworthy. I can only conclude that this is due to the fact that once they commit themselves to a given outlet/body they are afraid that: 1) Their sources will not stand up to any scrutiny and will be shown to be very biased 2) They will have no recourse if these sources confirm any obvious truth about Israel (eg: human rights abuses) It is a cowardly stance to take really but I don’t expect anything less from Ynuts. If you reread my post you will clearly see I was referring to Ynuts in general. Why you think everything revolves directly around you is beyond me.
57. just words...we r all waiting for a real prosecution.
ivan ,   haifa   (10.02.10)
Arab´s organizations must do every effort to take the murderers to an international court.
58. @#55: We do hold grudge. But we don't revenge.
Bat Zion ,   Centre, Israel   (10.02.10)
Our actions are preventative - our motto is "never again" - we do everything in our power to keep suicide bombers from reaching our cities, and the best means is the Defence Wall. That is what angers terrorists most - that we thus nullify their attacks on our cities and kibutzes.
59. Reliable sources?
Paul   (10.02.10)
Ms Groves: Let me enlighten you how reporting works in the West Bank, from an incident I witnessed told by a journalist who "strayed". All foreign journalists are briefed when they arrive in Gaza, by the Hamas - either report what we want you to report and show you, or we will leave you out to dry without sources for stories. WE will take you and show you what we want you to see: you are not allowed to move around independently. Moreover the drivers used are vetted by the Hamas. This is done subtly, but the message is clear. So much for "reliable" and "independent". So, why then is CNN, or Reuters any more reliable than Ha'aretz, Channel 10, Fox News or any other?
60. #48 Jews practice today the biblical land right mitzvah?
observer   (10.02.10)
what else except the biblical right they have to claim the land of Israel? they only annihilate peoples whose forefathers inhabited the land to pave the way for the land mitzvah.
