1. neither forgive nor forget, but time to move on.
David ,   Hartford USA   (10.02.10)
I lost relatives. They were transported or killed on sight. The trains were taken over and Nazi were good at shooting first and asking questions later. The crews of those trains are long gone, the administrators are history. Nobody asks IBM to rehash their depraved and despicable conduct during the war every time a bid is let for computers or services, so let the train builders off the hook. Let one of them build the finest highspeed rail system the world has ever seen. Let that be repayment for past deeds of ill repuke.
2. I would agree with number 1if
(10.02.10)
I understand the need to live in the present, move on. I would accept this if we were simply talking about trains misappropriated for genocide. Following the paper trail of trains used for deportation leads to horrifically benign orders for weight bearing bolts which in turn would accommodate the humans packed in train cars, rails to be reinforced etc... Modifications made as small footnotes in supply orders in history. The truth about IBM should be known widely, companies looking for international bids should have to disclose their roles in war crimes.
3. schwarzenegger is from austria & his father was a nazi.
debra ,   usa   (10.03.10)
how easy it is for him to forget the shoah. well, it's not easy for jews to forget it. he should not have vetoed the bill. let's hope the california legislature overides his veto. the train companies should pay the jews monies owed.
4. May the Schwarzenggers move to Europe and cause as much
Rivkah   (10.03.10)
damage there with their global warming environmental scams as they have caused in California. Schwarzenegger for E.U. President! And please, don't send them back.
5. Schwarznegger is a Friend of Israel
Ron ,   OC, USA   (10.03.10)
I don't know much about this bill or its purpose. But, I don't want to see the Jews blow off a true friend of Israel.
6. had they paid for the tickets? perhaps the "Madoff charities
ERIK ,   CZECH REPUBLIC   (10.03.10)
You suckers.
7. He was right to veto this bill, because
Rich ,   Toronto, Canada   (10.03.10)
that would bring into question the Federal Reserve, the Bank of England, and the investment brokerage houses on Wall Street, London and in Germany today that financed the Nazis. There is plenty of blame to go around.
8. #6 Thank you, Erik
Tahl ,   Ashdod   (10.03.10)
For your disgusting comment, reminding us what a rabid antisemite you are.
9. arnold the 'governator'
moron ,   galut   (10.03.10)
the left has contolled the legislature in california since god was young--now a month before republicans are poised to make gains they raise the old canard that the gop are nazis because they are not 'progressives'--shameful beyond description;but not beyond belief unfortunately
10. Standard Oil of Indiana shipped Petrol To Nazi
Sifter   (10.03.10)
Standard Oil was shipping fuel to Germany DURING WW2, they'd change flags halfway. Should we indict Stanard Oil? Yes,but it'l never happen.
11. That's Funny
Granny ,   Vermont, USA   (10.03.10)
Because California has a nearly identical law regarding companies who might have had any kind of investment or involvement with slavery, even on the most peripheral basis.
12. In other words...
Heather Czerniak ,   Mississauga, Canada   (10.03.10)
"However, he said, "this bill needlessly places the state in a position of acknowledging the activities of companies during that time." " In other words, Das Guvernator wants to make it easier for the state of California to plead ignorance of something that the whole world already knows about. If the governor of California was also the smartest person in California, then let Mexico have it back.
13. 12 Heather, Canada: Mexico never had California. Spain did.
Rivkah   (10.04.10)
14. Rivkah flunks 4th grade California history
Jim ,   San Jose, California   (10.05.10)
Sorry Rivkah, but you would flunk 4th grade California history; if you were going to school here in California. From 1821 to 1846 Alta California was part of Mexico. From 1846 to 1850 California was an independent nation. We were admitted to the United States in 1850.
15. Schwarzenegger vetoes bill seeking companies' WWII roles
Kent Mitchell ,   Lincolnton, NC. USA   (10.07.10)
If I am not mistaken, The German Army took over all the rails of the countries they occupied. They had to comply or be killed. The atrocities of war are terrible. Should we hold the pilots and their crews accountable for the killing of civilians when they carpet bombed the cities. On another point why should we give a contract to another nation when we need to put our people to work here in the USA. Forgive but don't forget.
16. 14 Jim, San Jose: Mexico did not become independent from
Rivkah   (10.07.10)
Spain until long after California was a part of America. Mexico was a colony of Spain, remember? Mexico did not become independent from Spain until 1910 after a seven year revolution.
