1. Pay Him!!??
Dan ,   Titusville, FL   (10.03.10)
Certainly we should pay these people for their "suffering" but first let's have the Palestinians pay for every victim's families and extended families reparations for the horrors, terror and violence they have committed in the past 63 years. I also want them to pay reparations for their cooperation with Nazi's during WWII. Had they not how many of the 6 million and their progeny would be alive today in Israel? Additional reparations for airplanes, cars, houses, buildings, trains, motorcycles and bicycles destroyed and payment must be made for ruining every child's dreams. After that, this woman's claims should be considered.......then summarily dismissed.
2. gaza mom
moron ,   galut   (10.03.10)
war is traumati--what business has she in israeli court---maybe israelis are confused by war too
3. Oh mom, Unfortunately, I'm afraid no REAL punishment ,
Salma ,   Palestine   (10.03.10)
We can all rest assured of the outcome :(
4. Who cares of Palestinians
Frank ,   Canada   (10.03.10)
They elected Hamas, they are responsible for the consequences of their decisions.
5. Terrible
Matt ,   USA   (10.03.10)
Terrible suffering by this family, but let's have Hamas compensate all the Israeli families for their injuries and deaths before we worry about the Gazans. Anything else would be "unjust".
6. 3 - do prefer palestinian-style justice?
mike ,   israel (formerly usa   (10.03.10)
actually if a palestinian soldier acted this way to a jewish boy, he'd be lynched in the street by his own people for not murdering a zionist when he had the chance. but if a palestinian soldier actually killed a jewish boy like this, he'd be celebrated as a hero with sweets raining from the sky and publicly awarded for bravery. yes salma, please teach us about justice since you have such a deep understanding of the subject.
7. this is the result of all of the years
Barney ,   USA   (10.03.10)
of terrorism. You made the bed, you sleep in it. Is it good? no. Where does the blame go- to the embracers of terrorism. I think of this every time i get on a flight. shoes off. belt off. metal detector. now xray machines. none of this started until the arabs gave the world terrorism
8. If true, which is unlikely
Ilana   (10.03.10)
then it is not good. Probably the truth is somewhere in between. Anyhow, our kids are also traumatized and Hamas really does not give a sh**! Neither does the world. Get rid of Hamas.
9. Since when are mothers from Gaza
(10.03.10)
so concerned about their children? Isn't their goal to have their children become "martyrs"? Isn't that what every kindergarten child learns there?
10. Israel and Palestine both
Stephan ,   US   (10.03.10)
have hard times to get along with each other. What do you suppose to here from people of both sides, the truth? Forget about it. Both Israelis and Palestinians would never say you the very truth; they both would blame an opposite side. What is clear is that some "events" take place. If so, I am sure that it's not hard at all to look after the cause of the troubles -- in each event -- separately. Do not blame all Israelis and all Palstinians in shadow effects of the global Israeli-palestinian conflict. Blame Israel and Palestine for luch of decisiveness.
11. To arrogant chosen one -- No 9
Bob ,   TA   (10.03.10)
The palestinian mothers want their children to become martyrs as much as Israeli morthers say in Israeli hasbara TV programs they are proud of their sons killed while defending their country. Just misused sorrow of desperate parents - on both sides.
12. #9 Bravo, tell it like it is.
(10.03.10)
13. Lets be Human (and Humane) about this
Nathan ,   Israel / USA   (10.03.10)
I served in a combat unit (and still do reserves in a combat unit) so I believe I have the right to speak here. Using a child to check for explosives is rather barbaric. While I am for placing our soldiers (including myself) in as little danger as possible this is a little too much. I can understand using an adult who claims the bags are his...I can understand shooting the bags full of holes, but not using a child. The realities of war are bad enough. Enough children die due to Arab callousness and and willingness to sacrifice their young children on the alter of hate. The difference between us has always been that the Arabs are willing to send there kids to die while we do everything possible not to kill them. Salma, it is people like you that make me believe that peace in only a dream... remember even your Arab brothers consider you to be less than dirt (you being Arabs living in the land formerly called Palestine ). How does it feel knowing that JEWS care more for your children that your Arab Brothers do? Must Hurt...You are like an abused child who takes out his anger on his foster parents when it is his parents who abused him (and continue to abuse him). You are an expendable tool (to your Arab Brothers) to be used, abused, broken and thrown away, never forget that. Never forget that even at our worst, we Jews treat you better than other Arabs treat you at their best. Truly Wishing you well and a speedy recovery .... Nathan
14. #11 Who's arrogant, you or #9 ?
(10.03.10)
At least he's not mealy-mouthed.
15. what drama
Golan ,   Modiin   (10.03.10)
so let me get this right. Your son can act as a Hamas scout during a time of war but have him open some packages and boom! He is traumatized? By what? I thought these packages were as harmless as a box of Hadiths.
16. WAR Beginings & WAR Outcomes
izzy ,   USA   (10.03.10)
Hi Selma, Thier shuld be no punishment for these soldiers. Lets remember how the WAR began, Lets not forget. Not 1, Not 2, Not 3, Not 4, Not 5, But 6 striaght years the Palestinian People (Who Control Hamas) Allowed Rockets to be fired into Israel, targeting civilians for 6 Years. This all could have been avoived. The Palistinian people did nothing to stop the Rocket Fire, on inocent civilian people. It was never condemded by the Palestinian People nor UN. Lets not forget, but remember this was the Outcome of WAR. No damage was done to the boy. #1. Nobody was hurt. #2. The soliders choose the boy to open a bag, and he couldnt. So they shot the bag and not the boy..So, she was scared. She even thought they would kill her son. Imagine if the shoe was on the other foot, her rational would be to shoot the boy. Killing was the first thing in in her mind. No rationality. The facts and reality speak for themselves. Her son was choosen by a soldier to do a task that was unharmful. Her rational immediatly was to kill. I know you felt like you were suffocating, but you didnt. You did not suffocate nor die. Why are we punishing these Israeli soldiers? This bag was the owners bag, if there would have been explosives inside the bag, she would be targeting Israeli soldiers. I think Israeli soldiers did the right thing. Again this is WAR, An enemy can easily plant a bag with a bomb in it. Having an israeli soldier open it, would put the soldier in harms way. In this case, i think having the owners of the bag, open the bag. The owners should bare the burden of risk and responsability for thier actions. It can not be a one sided. If you planted expolsives in the bag targeted for Israeli soldiers, there will be consequenses. Some times booby traps can work against you. (Arab Palestinians = Hamas = Israel Enemy) WAR sucks, Israeli soldiers must try to avoid harms way. Again this could have been avoided, but 6 YEARS straight of rocket fire? Unacceptable....
17. #13 Are sure
Stephan ,   US   (10.03.10)
every thing was as Gaza Mom told? The "truth that you read" and "truth in the real life" are two intertwisted truths. Which truth is more truthful nobody knows... And that's the ruth.
18. Does anybody care about Israeli soldiers?
Sidney ,   USA   (10.03.10)
Who risk their lives to protect the Israeli people. People who are so critical of them like the editors of Haaretz may not be alive were it not for them.
19. Oh Salma, we know the Palestinians reward their soldiers
Brian Cohen ,   Judean Peoples Front   (10.03.10)
Salma, please explain to us why Palestinian suicide bombers have schools named after them, and kids have their hero posters in their bedrooms. Please explain why your government pays reward money to the Palestinian families of the suicide bombers, who have murdered hundreds of innocent men, women and children in the name of "Palestine".
20. Better safe than sorry
BEN JABO ,   ISRAEL/USA   (10.03.10)
No reason to take chances, the delay was only for a moment or two, mourning lasts a lifetime
21. # 18
Israel   (10.03.10)
Haaretz ? never heard of it.
22. Huge trauma
John ,   Herzliya, Israel   (10.03.10)
Well, it must have been really bad. Can you imagine such a trauma, the doors of the apartment have to be locked!! I didn't know that I am also suffering. I will soon apply for some funds from IDF to compensate my trauma....
23. #11
yesjb ,   canada   (10.03.10)
Heyob too bad you're too stupid to tell the difference. The Pali mother wants her child to strap on a bomb and go blow up some Jews, women and children preferably. An Israeli soldier is there to defend his country against such would-be "martyrs" Anyway, Bob old boy, maybe they should arrest your Texas policemen for searching someone? Those martyrs will soon be coming for you Bob...in Texas. We'll see how you feel when they start blowing up your buses and restaurants!
24. War criminals
Daz ,   UK   (10.03.10)
These soldiers are nothing but cowards, they can't fight like men they have to pick on little children. I take it they will be dishonorably discharged from the army.
25. Aw, come on!
Manic Drummer ,   Madison, WI, USA   (10.03.10)
In half the high schools in the USA, students can have their backpacks and lockers searched without reason or without warning! Grow up and learn to deal with it!
26. Gilad Ben Aviva Shalit also has a huge trauma
(10.04.10)
So send Shalit home and then we'll pay this boy for his pain and suffering
27. Gaza mom
Shaq, USA   (10.04.10)
Arrogant, unfortunate, who cares? - is that the way humane people care for others (unless they are jewish of course). Shame on you. Someday the palestinians may also say "beter safe than sorry" like jerk # 20.
28. I Don't Understand
Christy ,   Boston, US   (10.04.10)
What did the soldiers do that was wrong? I thought soldiers were required to search bags, etc. if they suspected bombs? What's the big deal with this?
29. #28 you don't understand a lot of things
observer   (10.04.10)
that leads one to think seriously in jews changing yeshivas' curriculum.
