Haber-stop wallowing in despair and pity. israel is a good country notwithstanding the ginsberg beilin arab apologists. You supported olmert so you have no leg to stand on. israelis can at least fight to defend themselves which is a st ep up. Dayan like barak did some good things early for israel. Later, both of them perhaps got lazy and rich and less attentive and realistic. No general can always be right or always win. israel tries and livni is dead wrong when she says bibi does not want peace. Abbas turned down olmert's offer which was unbelievable concessions to the arabs. israelis will not go into the gas chamber again. Haber, take your medication. israelis will not go downn without a fight and will give a good account of themselves. Stop being a yankel!
2. Why our friends there call it Yom kippur not 6 of October
Ali ,   6 of October   (10.06.10)
3. NO NO and NO ! ! !

No angels, no superstars, but corrupt people to whom the interests of the party (the Labor party) prevailed above the interests of the State!. The combined Egyptian- Syrian attack didn't come as a surprise. It took the Egyptians weeks to prepare their offensive and all this in front of the Israeli army on the other side of the Suez Canal. IDF commanders tried to transmit what was happening but were told to keep their mouths shut, to avoid creating panic. The reason was that Israel was in the middle of the election campaign for the Knesset, and the campaign of the Labor was based on the slogan: "You never had it so good". So the government decided not to decree a general mobilization, with the hope that the Arabs would understand that for Israel it was not the right time to make war. But the Arabs who are masters in psychology understood exactly the contrary. The israeli population as a whole had been kept in total ignorance of the situation till the sirens at 2.OO PM at Yom Kippur.

after the 6 days war causing devastated Arab defeat, Israelis have complex psychotic problem with calling it 6; only first Six Hours of war imposing devastating defeat on the Israelis themselves? that sounds very very very bad.
6. Plenty of blame to go around
homer jones ,   nYc usa   (10.06.10)
The author is out of place to condemn Dayan. The government's political positions created the problem. We can't reverse history but we can learn from it. Israel must be proactive not reactive! While everyone condemns the Gaza withdrawal, it was proactive and split the Palestinians. Unfortunately Israel's political leadership has not taken full advantage of this.
7. Because it took place on Yom Kippur.... like.. duh?

It has nothing to do with the number 6 - it has everything to do with a coordinated sneak attack launched by Egypt, Syria and the USSR on Israel during the most holy day of the Jewish calendar. At the end of the conflict Syria and Egypt faced complete defeat and massive casualties except for the intervention of their ally the USSR to impose a settlement. What is amazing is that Israel could have launched a preemptive attack but was too worried about world opinion. Not one Egyptian, Syrian or USSR political or military official was ever brought to trial for war crimes or crimes against humanity. No Security Council resolution was passed condemning this heinous attack. So much for world opinion.
10. THE LESSONS OF WAR IS -
Arn. ,   SWEDEN.   (10.06.10)
ACTION ALWAYS BEAT REACTION !!!. THE BEST EXAMPE OF THIS I THINK, IS THE FINNISH WINTER WAR AGAINST SOVJET DURING W.W 2. WHERE FINNISH BATALIONS IN MINORITY OF PERSONELL SOMETIMES 30 TO 1 SUCCEDED IN EXTERMINATING THEIR FOES. THEY TOOK THE INITIATIVE AND HELD IT ALL THE TIME. And what is the lesson for this day and age? The most important lesson is that the government at the time, just like today and always, was not manned by heavenly angels or superstars, but rather, by real people, flesh and blood; people who make mistakes and take the wrong paths. DONT DO THE SAME MISSTAKE AGAIN. STRIKE FIRST !!!. Our problem is that their errors affect our life, and death. LIKE THIS - Netanyahu's first 18 months in office demonstrated that submission to pressure intensified pressure, radicalized Arab expectations and demands, undermined Israel's moral standing, eroded the PM's image and the strategic posture of the Jewish State in the Middle East and in Washington, DC and weakened the conviction of Israelis in their own cause. FROM - http://www.ynetnews.com/articles/0,7340,L-3964458,00.html GOD BEVERE ISRAEL FROM SUCH LOOSERS !!!. Arn.
11. #4 The Third Temple

“Temple” was also the code word for nuclear weapons. On Oct.18,1973, 13 atomic bombs were set on Phantom and Kfir aircrafts in Negev desert base, but later returned back when they made sure that the US intelligence had taken notice.

Gee ,   Zikron Yaakov   (10.06.10)
Do what has to be done to defeat our enemies. I was in Egypt at the end of the war and we had kicked the Egyptian's butts. But stopped because President Nixon didn't want us to destroy them again. That was the last mistake that we made.
13. Dayan
Moshe ,   NY,US?   (10.07.10)
It's clear from the releases that he was indeed dispirited, demoralized, and was unable to think. Words and suppositions are not needed to reveal his mental state. To me what these transcripts reveal is the utter reliance on US? That is the real "monkey on Israe's back" that somehow must be got rid of, for often as not their interests are frequently divergent. China, I suspect, is a better ally to North Korea than US? is to Israel.
14. shame on you
Scott ,   Chicago   (10.07.10)
Its easy to criticize anyone, or anything when you have time to analyze the available data. Anyone who thinks they can analyze split second life and death decisions while under attack, and close to being annihilated as a people, country, or state... is naive. No one is in any position to criticize the decisions made under fire. ( for example... Goldstone and the U.N.) Thanks for posting..

Gee , Zikron Yaakov (10.06.10) LAST MISSTAKE - ??? - DEAR SIR - ACCORDING TO ME - THAT IS ONE OF THE MISSTAKES ISRAEL HAS DONE IN EVERY WAR OF HERS. NOT STRIKING FIRST IS THE FIRST MISSTAKE YOU DO IN A WAR - NOT DESTROYING YOUR ENEMIE IN A WAR WHEN YOU CAN IS THE LAST. IF ONE THINKS WRONG ONE LOSES, AND THE FIRST BATTLE YOU LOOSE IN A WAR IS IN YOUR MIND. AND ISRAEL HAS ACCORDING TO THIS I WROTE ABOVE, NOT WON ANY WAR OF HERS, ONLY BATTLES, SINCE HER ENEMIES COMES BACK AGAIN AND AGAIN AND AGAIN. MAY YEHOWH Sebot BLESS ISRAEL WITH WARRIOR INSIGHTS. Arn.
