1. To email PM Netanyahu on Facebook, one has to sign a
Rivkah   (10.06.10)
loyalty oath to Israel. I gladly signed that. Why would Ministers object to that? If they do, they should not be ministers.
2. Pal "narrative" NOT recognized by MANY
iObserver and News ,   US. Israel   (10.06.10)
Absurd comment by a traitorous MK. MANY people, especially in the US, do NOT recognize the pal narrative as anything but a murderous platform for the illigitimate aims of terrorist groups in the land f Israel. Be they Arab squatters, left-wing supporters of terrorism or Euro-trash anti-Semites. The Europeans have lost virtually ALL credibility with their Ignorant PC and blatant antisemitism. They're a fearful bunch (better, perhaps, than their blood-thirsty, recent past) who stand with terrorists and openly do business with their own enemies...just to line their pockets. The Arab world disposes these pals in Israel, which is why they still have no home and why Egypt and Jordan never gave them the land they captured in the '48 war...not to mention, why they still have "refugee"camps in so many countries. The entire spectrum of the pal narrative is comprised of a single word: FAIL. They don't belong on a single square inch of Israel, not in Gaza, Sumaria and certainly not in JUDEA! Pay them so dough and give them the boot, like the Europeans were so glad to do with is Jews.
3. hope to g-d this law passes
chaim.s ,   brooklyn ny   (10.06.10)
i hope this law goes through, because 80% of tel aviv leftist's will lose their citizenships, and 3/4 of the leftist enemy colaborators siting in the insane asylum called the Knesset, will be thrown out
4. Competely stupid, unnecessary and uncalled for.
Tahl ,   Ashdod   (10.06.10)
As an Israeli patriot who loves my country recognizes the great importance of its Jewish identity, I dare to say that this move is completely stupid and senseless. Of course, maintaining Israel's Jewish identity is extremely important. But how does forcing a new citizen to recite the word "Jewish" help this cause? Would this recitation alleviate the REAL threats posed against Israel's Jewish identity, namely the post-Zionist leftists and the Israeli-Arabs' birth rate? Clearly, this is a purely demagogic move, aimed to achieve cheap popularity but devoid of any real substance. All it would contribute is more ammunition to our enemies. The rift between Israel's Jewish and Arab citizens would grow even wider, as the latter would feel even more anger and frustration, perceiving themselves as second-class citizens, and thus more and more of them would chose to side with Hamas. While external Israel-hating pundits would feast on a wonderful opportunity to continue to trash us as "racist", "Apartheid state", and their usual distorted lies. So why give them this ammunition? And all this for what?... Sometimes I truly cannot fathom how stupid the people in charge of this country are.
5. Excellent proposal, its a basic minimum requirement !!
MO ,   Israel   (10.06.10)
6. Is the PM, the Knesset & Court
Shalom   (10.06.10)
loyal to "a Jewish" Israel? You can't be Jewish and desecrate Shabbat and Chagim and eat non-kosher, etc.
7. Apart
Ariel Ben Yochanan ,   Kfar Tapuah, Efraim,   (10.06.10)
B"H Apart from the fact that words like "democracy", "democratic", or "democratically" do not appear in our Declaration of Independence, this proposal would render illegitimate first of all our politicians, Netanyahu, who gave away Hevron against any popular support, voted for disengagement, again against any popular support, not to mention Israel's other prime ministers before him who changed their program in office, respect of their campaign promises, to start with Begin, who gave away the Sinai for a piece of worthless Egyptian paper, Sharon, King of Traitors, who executed his arch-rival Amram’s voted down extreme left program, etc. The solution? Halacha, Jewish Law! It's at our fingertips: Israel for the Jews, Arabia is for the Arabs. If there is to chose between Jewish or democratic, as Jews we have to chose Jewish. And by Jewish I mean Torah-compatible on the Land of Israel.
8. The true goal of this proposal.
Linda ,   Poltava, Ukraine   (10.06.10)
"Jewish" means: no "right of return" for the "palestinian refugees" - let the 22 Arab countries handle the mess that they had created. "Democratic" means: that all loyal citizens of the country are able to elect their representatives and enjoy the citizenship rights. Nothing more or less.
9. MERETZ ON CITIZENSHIP
ALEXI   (10.06.10)
Meretz is consistent wether oron, beilin, haber, olmert, ben ami-all the same -idealistic self haters , some of whom are gutless or fearful, others like oz, olmert, and burg hate their orthodox families, all of whom lean towards a palestine binational state. All of them have no positive conviction of israel and are scared like hell of demographics. i count barak as one of them with his middle initial, C, for concessions-Ehud C. Barak. Well its time-you want to be a citizen, like the US and Canada, yoiu take an oath to swear allegiance to the flag. If you don't don't, you get booted out and no benefits. And if at any time, yiou undertake activity to destroy your oath, you get booted out beyond prosecution. This sounds totally rreasonable. And if 1 million arabs don't take the oaths, then they will be stripped of citizenship and booted out-end of story.
10. YES! Yes You Can Israel! Yes You Can! Proud Day! Common Sens

Sense and Logic have prevailed! What took you 62 years?
11. Leftists want 4 more arab states: Jordan, Aza, Judea&Samari
Jae ,   Lynn US   (10.06.10)
Samaria, and the rest of Israel- by not endorsing this basic move to retain the jewish peoples national homeland in the face of tibi's counter claims to the land, they are setting up a scenario where demagraphically there wont be a Jewish state; this is an existential battle between the 4% who own 96% and the 96% who own 4%; the left and the center-right.
12. Au contraire #6
J K ,   NYC, USA   (10.06.10)
It may make one a 'bad/lapsedon not observant Jew, but a Jew nonetheless. It appears your attitude is to jettison anyone who doesnt keep to the Torah instead of being maybe understanding and working to 'bring them back'. I dont care if they eat not-kosher...they are still our brothers and sisters. Man, 13 million Jews out of 7+ billion people and you still have Jews who want to cut off the others....
13. Bibi Proposal
JIM ,   USA   (10.06.10)
I am not pro-arabs but forcing people of other religions to make an oath for "a jewish state" is discriminating and there is no other free country that you have to swear to a religion in order to live there. Freedom of religion is a human right. Jews have been forced to swear to other religons and torured. We not leave the subject alone like in the USA?
14. It seems Jim Crow and Apartheid strong in Israel now
Bloodyscot ,   Dallas, Texas   (10.06.10)
Supporting Israel is important but this is just the wrong way and a sad day for Jewish values. The US people are not stupid but have not been fully informed due to press blackout on most negative Israel news, internet changing that quickly.
15. A JEWISH STATE? DID SOMEONE CIRCUMCISE ISRAEL?
stude ham   (10.06.10)
or was israel born from a jewish mother? this jewish state thing is a pure goy invention... like the christian states of medieval europe... or the muslim states of the medieval minds running them today... the concept is as foul as it is idiotic.

18. IT'S ABOUT TIME.
jimmy ,   Brooklyn, USA   (10.06.10)
ISRAEL IS A JEWISH STATE. To deny otherwise, is to be a traitor. If Arabs don't like it, there are plenty of countries to go to.
19. Jewish state and democracy don't mix.
Rich ,   Toronto, Canada   (10.06.10)
First of all, Israel is not a democracy, because there is no "We the people rule, and there is no accountability to the people of Israel in government. When you vote, you vote for the Prime Minister and the head of your political party - that's it. All the other representatives in the Knesset are appointees riding on the coat tail of the winning Prime Minister. You see the same faces in the government and nobody voted them in. That is not democracy and the political system has to be changed. Could you imagine if Jews in America had to pledge allegiance to the Christian state of the USA. We would immediately scream religious descrimination. To force Muslims and Christians to pledge allegiance to a Jewish state is clearly religious descrimination and a provocation to deny them of their rights. Light unto the nations? We should to be than the other nations (when it comes to civilized behavior), not worse. Israel is fast becoming a Socialist, Fascist Ethnocracy.
20. #14. No news here; Israel is a Jewish democratic state
Jae ,   Lynn US   (10.07.10)
you have a problem with taht go tell the 22 arab muslims states and the 56 muslim non arab states your problem with such things. The irony is those above numbered states dont have a 20% population of Jews or Christians who want to undermine it 24/7. are you a closet Jew hater fronting as a centrist? speak candidly please.
21. Jewish State
Freddy Maier ,   Israel   (10.06.10)
When the Palestinians say (through abbas) that they do not want any Israeli or any Jew in their future Palestinian state...nobody says anything. When the Palestinians accept NATO army to control their borders...but only if NATO countries first make sure that they will be no Jewish soldier...nobody says anything. Now for two words we are called racists ? Wake up !! We should make Palestinians reciprocate. They don't want any Jew in their future country = we don't keep any Arab in ours.
22. There are Jews that need to sign a loyalty
jason white ,   afula,israel   (10.07.10)
oath also. If people do not want to sign, then make them second class citizens..
23. No loyalty no seat in the Knesset either.
Nick Sporek ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (10.07.10)
No loyalty no residents, period! No loyalty equals free oneway ticket to the boarder.
24. #19, you don't get it. It's the Jewish *nation* not religion
Jake ,   USA   (10.07.10)
The Jewish nation has its own religion. Citizens must pledge allegiance to the Jewish nation in order to live in the national homeland of the Jews.
25. Israel to be a Christian state one day
Brod ,   USA   (10.07.10)
26. Itis about time
David ,   Lethbridge Canada   (10.07.10)
If you are not lohal to your country it should not take a treason trial
27. 13 Jim, USA: The reason for the creation of the State of
Rivkah   (10.07.10)
Israel was for the Jews to have a national homeland, protected from persecutions. If people are allowed to become Israeli citizens who do not believe in the Jewish Homeland, then they want to destroy what Yahweh created in 1948 with a vote at the United Nations. Israel allows Christians and Messianic Jews and Druze Arabs and Palestinian Arabs to live within its borders, but they have to understand and swear allegiance to a Jewish State. Lebanon was designated a Christian State in the Middle East and they did not protect that status by allowing Palestinians and Muslims and Syrians into Lebanon who did not swear allegiance to a Christian State of Lebanon. Now Lebanon is no longer Christian in any sense of the word. By the way, Rabbi Yeshua said salvation is from the Jews. If salvation is from the Jews, then one had best become a Jew to go to Eloah's heaven.
28. pledge of allegiance
kapriza ,   tzafon   (10.07.10)
This legislation is aimed at "aspiring citizens", those who want to become citizens of Israel, not those who are already citizens of Israel. If someone wants to become a citizen of Israel but isn't prepared to pledge loyalty to the state as it exists, as a Jewish democratic state, then they should look for a different state where they'll be more comfortable.
29. re 20: Yes the Muslim states are just as bad or far worse
Bloodyscot ,   Dallas, Texas   (10.07.10)
but I had hoped for better in Israel and in the past it was something to truly look up to but Turkey is also sliding backwards, with Iraq not looking good now either. Religious seems to be pushing this but hate of others is also a part of it. War and arms races seen to be the direction the ME is headed before peace has any chance.
30. Rich #19
Tahl ,   Ashdod   (10.07.10)
Israel is both a Jewish state and a democracy. The fact that ALL citizens, Jews and non-Jews, can form their own political parties, vote for whichever party they choose, and run for Prime Minister, attests for that. As do the freedoms of speech and the press - both of which, by the way, exceed America's. All the representatives in the Knesset were elected by the public. For each party, its candidate list is made of people elected (in a "primary" election) by registered voters of this party. And then in the "general" election, everybody votes for the party of their choice, and this determines the Knesset's composition. The Prime Minister comes from the party which organized the coalition, which is usually the party with the most seats. This process is similar in many great democracies in the world, such as Germany, Holland or Britain. And actually, Israel is more of a democracy than the US. How would you explain the un-democratic electorate votes system? Of course American Jews would scream discrimination if asked to pledge to a Christian America. But there is no comparison. Israel is the original homeland of Jews. America, however, was never the homeland of today's Christian Americans (if anything, it was the homeland of the Indians, and the Christian immigrants from Europe stole their land). So in that sense, America was never a "Christian country", and thus American Jews have as much claim to the land as American Christians. Moreover, America was a land of immigrants seeking better future, and most certainly not the only refuge for people suffering genocide based on their religion. Therefore the whole basis of comparison between Israel and America is flawed, and there is no contradiction between Israel's Jewish character and it being a democracy. Still, as I explain in my earlier comment here, I think this particular move stinks of demagoguery and ethnocentrism, and may be extremely damaging for Israel.
