I hope Charles PT will be satisfied
2. I just bought fish from a Haredi store ..
michael redbourn ,   Arad Israel   (10.07.10)
I know that people like to condemn the Haredim and to call them parasites, but many are and many aren't. There are many non-Haredim that are parasites. In my local shopping mall, a Haredi has a booth for cellphones and just today I bought fresh fish from a Haredi store. The shop has great fish and meat, plus good service and the people behind the counter work as hard as non-Haredim in similar stores. I believe in God, but am not Haredi or even Orthodox and would perhaps be a poor excuse for a Reform Jew. Mike
3. Haredim working? -in Israel?!
nadav ,   tlv israel   (10.07.10)
is it Purim already?!
4. Good news!
Talula ,   Israel   (10.07.10)
Now, let's sit back and watch them succeed in their studies, and then find jobs. If they can do, then the others will have no excuse. These few will be living proof you can infact study torah as well as attend college to study something useful. More power to those who work to make a living instead of sponging off the state. I wish them well.

Ellen ,   Israel/USA   (10.07.10)
And the reason for your mean comment would be.... I guess you are just scared that as more Chareidim enter the workforce your job will be in danger. After all, someone who can't write anything intelligent couldnt' be too much of an asset to anyone or anyplace!
6. Wonderful
Erich ,   Jerusalem   (10.07.10)
So at least some Chareidim have come to their senses and realize that the ideology laid out for them by their leaders is misguided. Now more of them need to acknowledge that they are obligated to serve in the IDF like the rest of us.
7. To2 mike
thinkagain ,   jerusalem   (10.07.10)
If one day you decide to become religious,go for the original, you don t have to do everything recommanded, but at least you know the real thing not imitations.Forget about reform and other fake judaisme.
8. Degrees
avi ,   gaza   (10.07.10)
They should be given credits for all the Yeshiva studies Even in the USA, There are some colleges like Touro etc that award up to 60 credits for Yeshiva education Empire State University (SUNY) awards credits for life experience Some colleges even accept a Yeshiva degree (4 years) for entrance into MBA and Law Schools (Fordham etc) These are fully accredited schools (not diploma mills) Many types of disciplines are out there today, that have BA and doctoral degrees It is truly amazing that one who has studied Torah and Talmud (sometimes 18 hours a day) is not given credit for the effort and mastery gained in this discipline.
9. WHO PAYS TO EDUCATE THOSE WHO LEECH?
JEWISHNESS ,   USA   (10.07.10)
WHO PAYS TO EDUCATE THESE LABORGATORS???
10. they follow Torah law
alan ,   texas   (10.07.10)
The Torah commands them to WORK six days a week. They are following the correct path.
11. Miamonedes and others worked
Ron ,   US   (10.07.10)
This should be a no issue matter. I do wonder at what, from the descriptions, seems a very limited array of study. Why not also educate & train for medical field such as nursing, dental labs-technicians, physical therapists, medical lab technicians, forensics technicians, civil law, mechanics etc, construction engineers ?
12. No higher education without first serving
jason white ,   afula,israel   (10.07.10)
in the I.D.F for everyone.
13. Thinkagain , i'm your nightmare ?
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (10.07.10)
But NO, i'm not satisfied . First they "milked" the State to feed their childrten , did'nt serve the country , and now , when they begin their studies , at 36 and 46 ! , they receive a "generous scholarship" . What about a "generous scholarship" for students who , first serve in the IDF , and then begin their studies ? they deserve a "generous scholarship" , they have at least served their country ! PS to mrs Thinkagain : Judaism in English is without an E at the end , the same for Orthodox .
14. To 13Charles
thinkagain ,   jerusalem   (10.07.10)
You are not my nightmare ,sorry.
15. Great! Now We Can Create the Combat Division the Army Needed
EGGM ,   Petah Tikva, Israel   (10.07.10)
Oh wait, this is about work, not serving in the IDF. The Haredim are and will remain parasites until they not only work, but also serve in the army. This is a good start, but it's much too early to celebrate. The college in question is small, Bar Ilan is a small university, and ages 36 and 46 are quite late for starting a significant career (although better later than never!) I hope that this leads to a slow revolution among the Haredim, but maybe it's too much to hope for.

22. #7 - I used to be orthodox and then some!
michael redbourn ,   Arad Israel   (10.07.10)
20 years ago I even went to the mikve every day. But sadly I have had several very bad experiences with Rabbis. But not with G*d! :-) Keeping it very brief. My orthodox Rabbi used to accept money from goyeem (non-Jews) and tell them that he saw no difference between them and Jews. One day I asked him the difference (when we were alone) and he said, "Are you crazy the goyeem are here to serve us". I never went back to him again. My ex-father in law went to Shul 3 times every day. One day we went into a supermarket and he gave my two very small children candies and then threw away the wrappers. I told him outside, "Don't ever do that again; teach my kids to steal". His reply? It wasn't stealing because the owner of the supermarket was a goy. And we wonder why there is anti-semitism?! His daughter (my ex-wife) stole a quarter of a million dollars from me over a ten year period and she was raised in Bnei Brak. A week after making aliyah I saw an article in the Israeli press about a Rabbi who was being charged with selling conversions. His defense?! A Rabbi in France sold them and he was only taking commission. I went to study with a young Rabbi in Yafo who six months later fled the country after raping 3 students. He had done the same in Florida. Are there good Rabbis? Yes. I had a wonderful Rabbi and he died when he was 35 leaving a wife and six children. I pray every day but never go near a Shul. Michael

Since the Tora students don t know that South Afrika exploits witloof mines,i hope you will understand that ,they still need the state of Israel s help .

thinkagain ,   jerusalem   (10.07.10)
After having read your refreshing tb #2,i have a good feeling, that you are on your way to find a trustful Rabbi, and in the same time forget the people who did disgustful Hilul Hashem. Don t let them interfere with what is right and good for you to do.If you are interested ,i could ask if somebody knows a fine Rabbi in Arad.I really hope that you will find your way back to the shul.May Hashem help you.
25. ok haredis

28. Mark my words..The Religious will beat the chiloni
Al   (10.08.10)
at their own game. Reason 1) The Chiloni are a state protected endagered species. 2) The Chiloni are so PC they have stopped teaching their kids to think and as a result they are rasing fat little pigies glued to Youtube and Facebook. 3)The Chiloni are too busy hating the religious they dont realize the religious + traditional are becoming the majority. 4)The balance of political power is shifting to the right. 5)The chiloni dont have kids...they will wither and die. Finally the religious are sharp, tuned, hungry and focused. They will become the prime engine for Israels future development.
29. Thanks for your story, Michael Redbourn.
Robert Haymond ,   Israel/Canada   (10.08.10)
I appreciate the honesty and I can imagine what the problems were with which you were tangling. My son-in-law, A Sephardi Jew, believes first of all in Hashem, not the rabbis. Nonetheless, it's always good to find a true teacher if not a model. But it's always a mistake to worship the teacher no matter how much you may respect or revere him/her. The teacher is human and always flawed just like you and I. For my part, I have had superb teachers, especially in my mid adult years and from varied ethnic groups and I am grateful for all of them. One characteristic they all had in common was humility as well as the instinct to force me to separate and find my own way, not theirs.
30. #24 - I have already received some recommendations in Arad.
michael redbourn ,   Arad Israel   (10.08.10)
I thank you for caring. In total I spent several years with Rabbis that later disappointed me and that's hard to overcome. It happens with friends and spouses to and we generally overcome it. My ex-wife who was raised in Bnei Brak got very angry when I put on teffilin and said, "My father ruined my mother's life with this nonsense". I also carefully marked pans for meat and milk in red and green but she intentionally mixed them. I met a haredi where I bought the fish and he told me where they doven; so we shall see how things unfold. Thanks again. I am not lost however and feel very well connected to HaShem
