2. USA aid to Egypt
d ,   Raanana   (10.08.10)
Yet the USA gives Egypt millions of dollars in aid every year. One would think that the USA has some "pull" with a supposed ally and major aid recipient.
3. the 70s Egypt, Iran, USA, Israel

Shah Reza Pahlavi, 60, ailing from an enlarged spleen and a form of lymphatic cancer left Panama aboard a chartered DC-8. His destination: Cairo, where Egyptian President Anwar Sadat had made an open-ended offer of sanctuary. The Shah's flight from Panama, his home in exile could create internal difficulties for Sadat, whose regime is being criticized by Muslim zealots sympathetic to the Iranian revolution. The departure would also complicate diplomatic efforts to free the 50 Americans held hostage by militants at the U.S. embassy. President Jimmy Carter had called Ashraf Qarbal, the then-Egyptian ambassador to Washington, telling him that he had called President Sadat trying to convince him not to let the Iranian shah enter Egypt, as it could hinder the Arab-Israeli peace talks, but he had not received an answer. Shah's body was laid to rest in the Al-Refai Mosque in Cairo. Starting in 1968, the Israelis used a pipe called the "TIPline" to import Iranian oil from the Red Sea. But the shah was overthrown in 1979, and Iran shut off the tap. These days, Israel lets the Russians use the TIPline to pump oil in the opposite direction. An international arbitration determined more than 6 years ago that Israeli oil companies must compensate the National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC) hundreds of millions of dollars.

5. US still out of touch with reality...
John ,   France   (10.08.10)
The fact is,the alliance formed by the US in the ME to serve Israel's interest is weak and crumbling(There are no takers anymore.First Turkey, now Egypt).Weak because the partners involved are only in for the money and nothing else. For the US to think that because it gives aid(bribe) to Egypt it can tell it what to do is nothing but pure ignorance.Every nation on the planet has the God given right to make decisions based on their national interest. Is the US saying just because it's at odds with Iran, every other nation must also do same? That's nothing but childish thinking.Egypt like other countries in the ME is only realizing that 30+ years of friction with Iran has brought them virtually nothing substantial so it makes sense that they're trying corporation with them.Serves both nation better as it improves understanding and cultural sharing. Maybe the US should take a lesson from Egypt.

11. If You Think This Sort Of Cooperation Is Bad
World Citizen   (10.08.10)
Wait Till The Dictator Mubarek Is Dead. Do you think the Egyptian street is going to let Mubarek's son succeed him? The Muslim Brotherhood will see all of Egypt ablaze before that happens. For 30 years Mubarek has taken the bribes of the United States and stabbed his own people in the back. They are sick of his treachery. Egypt will be a staunch ally of Iran, Turkey, Syria and Lebanon and the Palestinian issue will be one of the focal points of their friendship.
