No, it had to do with the French reneging on a deal to supply Israel with yellowcake in 1968. Israel simply took what they had bought and paid for. Much to the embarrassment of the French -- hey, how bad is that?
32. :: Sarah BS - #11 - Israel can do nothing

Actually they don’t need such authority as mere recognition by the UNSC and UN members would legitimize a Palestinian state should the Palestinians unilaterally declare statehood. Or to put it in plain English for you - all the UN has to do is accept the State of Palestine as a UN Member State. This is known as “Collective Recognition”. There are two prime factors/conditions here regarding the accession to Statehood: 1) A political entity (ie: the PLO) declares itself as a politically independent state. 2) A majority amount of the international community recognizes that the entity has effectively satisfied the criteria for statehood. A perfect example would be when Jews in the region of Palestine declared statehood, such statehood was dependant on other nations recognizing this declaration of statehood. Without international recognition the modern state of Israel would not exist. The same apply to the Palestinians, if they declare statehood and this declaration is globally accepted there is *nothing* Israel can do. As for LOL! If Israel was to leave the UN it will no longer have a voice in the UN, secondly all UN Res are non-enforceable except under Chapter VII and even then it would make no difference if Israel was a member or not. In short Israel cannot stop the Palestinians from declaring statehood and Israel cannot prevent the UN from recognizing this declaration of statehood and accepting the State of Palestine as a fully UN Member State. After all what can Israel do - hold its breathe and say “I’m not going to be in your club anymore”?

Netanyahu is uttering words actually he is against peace so that he will not give back one square inch of the occupied lands. More than 17 years passed and nothing as been solved. Therefore the whole world will recognize a Palestinian State before the end of 2011 and those living in settlements on Palestinian lands will be branded as intruders and by International Laws can be arrested or killed.

PAL   (10.10.10)
Well I am not building them a tunnel they will have to go via Egypt, Jordan to move between Gaza and the West Bank. You cannot force me to build them a tunnel on Israeli land, that is theft sir. You go outside of direct negotiations then no tunnel because there is no deal and you all only create an obstacle to peace by entertaining such ridiculous ideas. That goes for the UN and NATO too no transit rights you live with them, no nice Israeli hotels and hospitals for you. You go via Gaza and via the Suez to Jordan for your supply of logistics to the West Bank.

Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (10.11.10)
Sorry; my first post was rejected by YNet. Let me try again. Israel was admitted to the United Nations on May 11, 1949. That was the recognition, as you ask. However, I think what you might have meant to ask has to with the creation of the modern State of Israel. In 1947, the non-sovereign Palestine Mandate was proposed to be turned into two nations -- one very small Jewish state; another much larger Arab state. The Jews accepted "partition." The Arabs did not. One day following declaration of the modern State of Israel, the fledgling state was attacked by five Arab armies. The Arabs lost. The rest is history. The West Bank -- and Gaza, for that matter -- to this day are considered "non-sovereign territory." That is why Israel's settlements in the West Bank are fully legal. Non-sovereign territory acquired in the course of fighting a defensive war (I trust you do recall that Jordan attacked Israel in 1967) may be settled by the victor. In my opinion, it has become a geopolitical necessity for Israel to annex the West Bank -- as they did the Golan and East Jerusalem -- and repatriate the Arab residents of Judea and Samaria to Jordan. Thanks to the Jordanian Law of Citizenship, passed in 1954, all Arabs living on the West Bank, and their progeny, are citizens of Jordan. Were Israel to withdraw from the United Nations, from the date of such withdrawal, Israel would no longer be subject to U.N. resolutions. The U.N. can only issue resolutions concerning member states. Since the U.N. has turned into such a farce, anyway, perhaps it is in Israel's best interests to withdraw. I hope I have addressed your questions satisfactorily.
42. #41: Sarah B, thank you very much.

Your explanation is a great insight as to what goes on legally. Very interesting. You wrote: "Were Israel to withdraw from the United Nations, from the date of such withdrawal, Israel would no longer be subject to U.N. resolutions. The U.N. can only issue resolutions concerning member states." I did not know this, but I do now, thanks to you...and God bless you for being on the good side. :)

Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (10.11.10)
Forgot to add that the U.N. became a farce because it decided it could give "observer" status -- not the same as nationhood, of course, but they were trying to appease the "Palestinians." Of all the entities in the world seeking nationhood, only the "Palestinians" have been granted "observer" status. It doesn't change the facts -- but it does say a great deal about the United Nations. Basically, they are a fraud. They have become worthless. Just look at the activities of the U.N. "peacekeeping" troops in Lebanon. The United Nations -- sadly -- has become a joke. Israel should rid itself of that body, forever. They have lost their way, and no longer serve their intended purpose.

chris ,   wales   (10.11.10)
What utter Arrogance and Contempt! never mind that the Palestinians don't even recognize a Jewish state. seems the EU is showing their true colours yet again and that they hate the Idea Israel being a nation. It was in europe that 6 million Jews got murdered and now here they are Trying their best to Undermine a Jewish state! zech 12 tells us this would be the situation and joel3:2 tells us the consequenses of dividing Israel!
47. #46 READ THIS IN YOUR OWN BOOK
Chris ,   Wales   (10.11.10)
A UN resolution creating a Palestinian state would give Russia and the Islamic world a wonderful pretext and platform to invade Judea and Samaria and to take the eastern half of Jerusalem. They could say they were only doing what the west did in Iraq. This is exactly what the Bible paint in EZEKIEL 38 &39.and Zechariah 12....read it friends,it in your own BOOK...it coming soon!!
