What you speak of is the ideal; our loyalty should be to the constitution given on Mount Sinai, true. You say it seems to have been rejected and denied by many of our citizens. Maybe it is rejected in part but not in totality or whole. Nevertheless, shouldn't we Jews look for some kind of loyalty to a Jewish state? There are many kinds of Jews. We have ethnic Jews, secular Jews, nationalist Jews, religious Jews, etc. If we as Jews can agree on certain fundamentals such as the centrality of our land, shouldn't we look for areas of agreement rather than areas of disagreement?
32. #6 wrong again, but thanks for playing :)
Alexander ,   NJ, USA   (10.13.10)
Your source there seems a bit outdated given the fact that Israel was founded in 1948 not in 1919 the time period of that quote and the views of the US at that time would drastically change. A lot had transpired from 1919 to 1948 like the first and second World Wars then "At midnight on May 14, 1948, the Provisional Government of Israel proclaimed the new State of Israel. On that same date the United States, in the person of President Truman, recognized the provisional Jewish government as de facto authority of the new Jewish state (de jure recognition was extended on January 31). The U.S. delegates to the U.N. and top ranking State Department officials were angered that Truman released his recognition statement to the press without notifying them first. On May 15, 1948, the Arab states issued their response statement and Arab armies invaded Israel and the first Arab-Israeli war began." (http://www.trumanlibrary.org/whistlestop/study_collections/israel/large/index.php). I hope this time you read it carefully as they mention the "Jewish government" and "Jewish state" and the Arab aggression and war against Israel. This is when all the Arabs who didn't even consider themselves as Palestinians, since that was what Jew's called themselves, fled the country for other Arab lands and thus forfeiting their rights to reside there unlike the one's that remained and are today full fledged citizens of Israel (some 20% of the population) with full and equal rights.
33. What of Christian rights to live & work in Holyland?
Bloodyscot ,   Dallas, Texas   (10.13.10)
All Jews should be allows to return and live in Holy Land but not to exclude all others from doing so. Christians ruled over all Holy Land for 100yrs including Jerusalem and parts for 200yrs. Balfour called for Jewish right of return to Holy Land but not for full Jewish control over area or non-Jews to become 2nd class citizens or to be deported. The UN in late 1947 decided on a 2 state solution but on condition that Ottoman/British land titles be honored by new states.

Eran ,   Singapore   (10.13.10)
This will not save him in November or 2012. Remember; a Palestinian senior politician was telling Ynet a few hours ago that "The US do not take Bibi's recognition request seriously" . Dont trust them. They are still in denial.

Palestinian mindset much less the Israeli one. Most modern Palestinians are having significantly fewer children than the former generation and, with the growth of an urban, educated class, such people are having even fewer babies. It is also true that there is a large segment of (secular) Israeli Jews who are having fewer children but both the Charedim and National Orthodox (National Religious) continue to have large families and, furthermore, adore their children. Your statement is so far out into leftfield that it appears you lack any real knowledge of the region. In general, Palestinians in the diaspora do not speak for nor understand Palestinians who actually reside in the region. Please contemplate, Nour. Your view continues to be based on fantasy.

Watch this video, go to about the 4:40 mark: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tnpilMYsR0I&feature=player_embedded#! You can watch and hear Obama say that the right of return is "not an option" because it would extinguish Israel as a "Jewish state." There is nothing new here. Versions of this video, Obama's statement, has been on the Internet for almost 2 years, guys. Sheesh, not one of you knew that? Did you know that Reagan is no longer president?

I hope and pray that there will never be a Palestinian state in the West Bank either. I hope you are right and that Israel will annex the territories. I am, after all, for the one-state solution lol.

look up there charter ,palestinians it calls for the total destruction of israel and a non israeli state , the palestinians do not want a country if they had one israel could declare war upon it the first time a missile was launch from within its boarders , this issue over jerusalem and land is just to fuel the fire and give them a reason to kill more jewish people. may the lord forever bless the state of israel..........

Nour ,   One-State   (10.13.10)
...and not enjoying the autumn breezes of Western Canada! I reside in an Arab country in the Middle East. Claiming that I don't understand Palestinian mentality is both preposterous and ridiculous! Also reminding you that West Bank Palestinians constitute roughly 15 to 20 % of Palestinians worldwide. We are all eager to return home - as soon as possible.

Mark ,   Lodz, Poland   (10.13.10)
Israel has every right to be exactly where she is...Historically, Religiously and Politically. You happen to be seriously chewed up because you can't convert us, hate Israel because we can thrive there and permanently hamper you and your sect's mission. It didn't happen in the last 2000 years in the Diaspora without a homeland and for sure it’s not going to happen in the next. What really warms my soul is that your fantasy will remain just that...a fantasy.

Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (10.13.10)
Yes, but following annexation, the Arab residents of the West Bank will be repatriated to Jordan, country of their citizenship. There will be a two-state solution: Israel -- and Jordan. Gaza? Sooner or later, Israel will have to take it back. I don't know what will happen to the Gazans -- you'll probably end up being repatriated to Egypt.

Israeli temporary settlement construction freeze = Palestinian temporary recognition of Israel as a "Jewish and Democratic State".

A tiny clip taken, by the way, from a campaign speech, is not the same as a statement issued by the State Department from a sitting president. Vast difference, dear.
55. Hezbo/Hamas/PLO/PA: NO unity=No Pal State
iObserver and News ,   US. Israel   (10.13.10)
LOL! The pals r still stoning Jews, fighting amongst themselves and have gotten NOWHERE in the past 60+ years...that is, except weakened to the point that they have no hope of a homeland anymore. The Kurdish region of Iraq is the cleanest, most affluent area in all of Iraq. You'd think Gaza would have cleaned up their act, "occupied" Judea-Samaria would be organized but they're not. The pals are perhaps the most I'll equipped peoples to have their 'own' land. It's pathetic...truly. Israel will remain & thrive; the pals will ultimately dwindle and leave and the few remaining Arabs will enjoy the best lives any Arab or Muslim has throughout the entire middle east. Sad but true. The pals in the US have no interest in investing in the Pals in Israel nor does anyone else. Peace will be achieved because the liberals have made fools of themselves all over the world and the reality Check about the failure of backing the PA is on the desk in full view. The Jewish people r the most persistent of all humanity. You'd think the rest of the world would have learned that by now. The Pals blew it, as did the muslims for NOT standing up against extremism. Islam and the fanatics will fade off into the secular world as a choice...an option, like Christianity did. A door to door sales pitch, nothing more. This is the end of the road for all forms of fanaticism and extremism and THAT is what the Pal culture was weened on. It is over. Israel will Fully annex their lands of Judea and Sumaria, the UN won't recognize it for years (but ultimately will) and the Pals won't over populate because they won't be able to afford it. They should have accepted partition like decent human beings instead of waging war this whole time. They lost. End of story! Chai Yisrael!!!

Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (10.13.10)
So all this "temporary" stuff means that Israel can agree to anything and then simply rescind it -- right? Isn't that what you're saying? Arab presence in Judea and Samaria = temporary, big time. Right?
57. #54 Sarah - they said it orally and in writing
Elmer ,   USA   (10.13.10)
Google OBAMA JEWISH STATE and you will find Obama and those in his administration have been saying this through his presidency. Google "a Jewish state of Israel, with true security" and you will see that it has been the written policy of the Obama administration for months, “dear’. For anyone who needs clarification, I have always supported Israel as the homeland for the Jewish people (“the Jewish state”) and I have always strongly opposed the idea of a Palestinian “right of return.” But when Obama occasionally does something right, let’s at least give him credit for it.
58. and so on and on..........
achmed ,   jizra   (10.13.10)
It is a state for other citizens of other faiths as well.
59. 13
zionist forever   (10.13.10)
Philip Crowley may not have said this without the ok from Obama but politically it means nothing unless it comes from Obama personally. Also the end bit of Crowley's speech " It is a state for other citizens of other faiths as well " sounds more like the US is intending to be championing the rights of arabs already in Israel and is also saying we do not outright reject right of return in some form. A recognition of Israel as a jewish state is essential not just petty politics. Its needed to end the right of return nonsense and also a large percentage of palestinians believe that all of Israel is part of Palestine and 2 states is the launching pad and one day they will liberate all of Palestine. If they agree it belongs to the jews then there is nothing to liberate or to return to. I think on Bibis part he doesn't seriously expect to get this admittance at this stage its a more of a message to Obama & Abbas that he won't continue to go along with talks based on pre conditions. So far its all been Obama saying what Abbas wants Abbas will get. During the 10 month freeze Abbas kept refusing to come talk because Bibi wasn't offering enough, instead of bashing heads and telling Abbas Bibi made a gesture now you must make one. Instead he said to Bibi Abbas has said he won't talk until you give more so give more to get these talks started. It was only 1 month before the end of the freeze and Obama saw his legacy slipping away Abbas was finally dragged to talks kicking and screaming looking for any way out which would pin the blame on Bibi. Abbas was holding serious talks with Bush & Olmert andd the settlement construction continued and Abbas was quite happy with the occasional token gesture of stopping small outposts Abbas has had Obama on his side constantly backing him unconditionally and punishing Israel to boost his image in the muslim world let them all see this is a new America and we care about justice for arabs not Israel and its made him very popular amongst the arabs. This may be a message from Bibi that he wants a change in attitude from Obama and he has to do this now before the midterms when Obama is at his weakest otherwise. Wait until after the midterms Obama will just say I am running the show here and I decide how things are run.
60. Quite obvious
Jackie ,   Florida   (10.13.10)
As anyone who has visited Israel knows, the state is a Jewish one, in which the rights of other peoples and faiths are recognized. So the comment from the State Department is to be expected. However since 1947, the Arabs have denied the right of Jews to have a homeland and have even said that if an Arab sells land to a Jew, he is subject to the death penalty. And the Palestinians have said that no Jews may live in their country, let alone refused to recognize Israel as a Home for the Jews. .
