2. JEWS HAVE RIGHTS TOO, NOT JUST ARABS
ABRAHAM ben JACOB ,   CANADA   (10.15.10)
THESE JEWISH PEOPLE HAVE HUMAN RIGHTS TO MOVE BACK TO THEIR ORIGINAL HOMES. THESE JEWS ARE TRYING PEACEFULLY AND WITH DIGNITY TO RE-GAIN THEIR HOMES. AND NOT LIKE THE VIOLENT ARABS DID WHEN THEY FORCED THE ORIGINAL JEWS OUT IN OFFENSIVE, HOSTILE AND HORRIBLY FORCEFUL MANNER.
3. In principle, they should be recompensed--BUT
Mikey ,   SomeWhere OverHere   (10.15.10)
If Jewish oweners insist on having property they owned before 1948 returned to them in places like Sheikh Jarrah--then it bolsters Arabs' claims to get back propert they abanndoned in neighborhoods like Katamon, Talbiyeh, etc .. in 1948 and THEY WILL make demands...the fact is there was a population exchange
4. #1 how can you help: ISRAEL LAND FUND
Gabi ,   New York City, USA   (10.15.10)
As mentioned in the article, the organization that is taking action is called "The Israel Land Fund". I've met with them and they are for real! Unlike the JNF who pockets management fee's and isn't against arabs squatting on their land. Check out their website: http://www.israellandfund.com/en-us/index.htm
5. how to help
ben packer ,   jerusalem   (10.15.10)
go to www.israellandfund.com and donate! let's help these Jews get their rightful property back!
6. When Israel annexed it has to honor titles, who hold titles?
Bloodyscot ,   Dallas, Texas   (10.15.10)
Are the Jews still owners of record and the Arabs just move in or were they given new titles under Jordan rule? Arabs & Christians also lost land in Israel between 1948-51 in north border and Galilee areas at gun point then moved to camps deeper inside Israel or Lebanon. This was done for security since areas were only 12% Jewish at time.
7. #1 Elad organization
Jason ,   Israel   (10.15.10)
is involved in that through the Ir David Foundation. You can support them if you want - just look them up online.
8. Jews Reclaiming House
Ya'akov ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (10.15.10)
What wasteful spending by this company! The Jews already own the houses and land! This company can spend the money on redeeming other properties.
9.  titles ???
dave ,   hnl   (10.15.10)
READ THE BIBLE ! THE BIGGEST titles IN THE WORLD !
10. Wrong
m   (10.15.10)
"Sheikh Jarrah was left under Jordanian jurisdiction" It was conquered by Jordan and Jews killed and expelled.
11. #3 - not really. Infact, they are quite different
William ,   Israel   (10.15.10)
In the War of Independence, Palestine Arabs sided with the Arab armies and aided in the attempt to destroy Israel and commit genocide of Jews. Many cities that were emptied of their Arab citizens were infact aiding and abetting these crimes and could therefore be removed based on Intl Law at the time. Conversely, most Arabs who left their homes did so out of fear without ever seeing a soldier - a fact admitted to by many Arab leaders at the time, and the PLO just 20 years ago. While given the chance to return to any homes in 1948, Arabs refused because they would not agree to an end of aggression against Israel and being good citizens of the State. Therefore, they negated their own claims in 1948. Jews were never given that chance as they were ethnically cleansed from Judea, Samaria, Gaza, and E. Jerusalem neighborhoods simply for being Jewish. That is a war crime and cannot be justified by allowing Arabs to keep the property that they themselves admit was ill-gotten. Very different circumstances.
12. What the Left is saying is "we condone ethnic cleansing"
William ,   Israel   (10.15.10)
Unfortunately, the very tenets liberalism was built on are being broken by the liberals. They demand more justice and equality in the courts, but ignore rulings (like on Sheik Jarrah houses) when it doesn't suit them. They demand equality in housing but equally demand not one Jew be allowed to live in an Arab neighborhood, while demanding Jewish neighborhoods be open for all. Finally, the incident in 1948 of Jews removed from Judea, Samaria, Gaza, and E. Jerusalem was infact a war crime and ethnic cleansing. While the Left decries any attempt to make a land swap giving Arab-heavy areas to the PA (the same scheme developed by the UN in pre-1947 decisions), they have no qualm about accepting the ethnic cleansing of Jews and illegal annexation by Jordan as valid.
13. A question yet to be answered....
Mikesailor ,   Miami, FL   (10.15.10)
Can Arabs, who have title to lands within Israel, reclaim their property? Or be recompensed? Or does Israeli 'law' only work to the benefit of Jews? By the way, since thede areas are east of the Green Line, shouldn't Palestinian courts be the proper forum to adjuicate these claims?
14. #13 - the answer is YES, but where are the titles?
William ,   Israel   (10.15.10)
So far, not one Arab who has claims of land inside Israel has produced a title to that effect. They show rusty keys and wonderful stories of grandfathers, donkeys, and olives, but no real documentation admissible in a court of law. Which further supports the evidence that many Arabs claiming to be "natives" of the land were infact part of the mass illegal economic migration in the 1920-1930s, and the illegal squatting on any open land. The real open question is this: with so much evidence to the effect of Arabs stealing land and claiming land that wasn't privately owned, why is the Intl community ignoring this when it violates the very laws the Intl community holds so dear?
15. #13 - "Palestinian" courts hold no jurisdiction
William ,   Israel   (10.15.10)
Since there is no sovereign State (nor was there ever) which held the name "Palestine", there is no court system or govt that is truly able to extend law enforcement and verdicts. The Green Line essentially is an armistice line and not any real delineated border. Therefore, it is illegal for any people or State (other than Israel) to claim sovereignty in areas East of the Green Line until such border agreements are made between the two parties.
16. Fir #15, Then why not agree to a UN tribunal?
Mikesailor ,   Miami, FL   (10.15.10)
Frankly, there have been palestinian Arabs who have shown title to properties gong back to Ottoman times. Such claims have been routinely denied by Israel under that legal farce called the Absentee Landlord Law which routinely denies either property rights or compensation to the victims. Even mor bizxarre, Israel will not allow the owners to enter Israel to use the courts citing 'demographic' challeneges. William, you have to do better than that. Your argument is pathetic.
17. #16 - but your claim was "Palestinian" court jurisdiction
William ,   Israel   (10.16.10)
not UN Tribunals or the Absentee Landlord laws. You purposely changed the subject and lambasted my response to your previous claim by taking it out of context. How typical of the pro-palestinian lib-tards. Stay on topic and argue your point instead of convoluted spin tactics through a non-real-time media venue. Again, Pals have no court jurisdiction as they have no sovereign to dictate from. Finally, Israel has the right to instate an Absentee Landlord rule based on the complexity of the situation and the involvement of said landlords in aggressions towards the State and their citizens. In other words, they probably should have stayed like Israeli Arabs today.
18. #16 - another comment on UN tribunals
William ,   Israel   (10.16.10)
While you and your ilk love the UN as your resident attack dog, they have no jurisdiction here either. UN tribunals are held for war criminals and large scale crimes against humanity. This is a land dispute between two parties which the UN stated several times in the past 6 decades is "to be resolved through negotiations". Nice try but it seems the UN will actually follow the very laws it helped write. Can't say much for the Lefties who seem to be entitled to break whatever laws they wish "for the greater moral good" (whatever that means).
19. That's a fair deal
Abdalla ,   Talbia, West Jerusal   (10.27.10)
And by that deal, this old man goes back to Silwan and Arab families go back to Talbia, in West Jerusalem (which doesn't even exist now). Regarding rape, an Arab proverb comes to mind: No bigger lies can come from a man who travelled abroad and an old man whose peers are dead.
