John   (10.16.10)
So declare a state already. If Kosovo did it, so can the Palestinians. Who's stopping them? The answer is, their own leadership. Declaration of a state means letting go of their myth that 'Palestine', a once administered territory before it was recommended for partition, is gone forever.

recognition. In 1993 the PLO recognized Israel's right to exist in peace. But what is in the Fatah charter? Did not Abbas, only a few days ago, say he will never recognise Israel? Did he not also say that Israelis can call their state anything they want? So name is not a problem? Why is it that every other day some Pals jack... says that Pals will NEVER recognise Israel? Israel now has the Pals cornered - that's what. Peace cannot come without mutual recognition and acceptance of the both parties. The game is up. "Building" is just a side road. The Pals must get on the highway. The Pals just want to hand everybody (including the UN) a requisition list and expect everybody to deliver to them on a platter. What they want is for the UN to give them a state to wage war on Israel. If they can't take the first step towards peace then any state given to them will be given under the existing state of war. It is as simple as that. Is that what the US, France, Russia and indeed the whole UN, want? Building is a red herring. The big issue and the very first step is recognition. Peace talks can be launched from there. No cutting of corners to boomerang later on. Better to find an island for them and give them statehood there as there will be no neighbours for them to wage war on. Then the world can pump as much money into their coffers to allow them living like kings, provided their corrupt politicians don't pocket it all. Better yet, the UN should declare Jordan their state which is where they belong anyway. Why create a new state when there is already one for them; when they can't live in peace with their neighbour. Why go through all this damn trouble for a pile of immigrants who claim they are Pals.

7. :: Israel is fast becoming irrelevant
Matty Groves ,   Fairport   (10.16.10)
Israel has proven time and time again that it has no interest in ending the occupation, removing the illegal settlers and reaching a peace agreement with the Palestinian People. The best course of action is to allow Israel to further isolate itself, by its own belligerence, from the global community and in particular the US. Once Obama understands that there is no hope that Israel will be a ‘partner in peace’ the PLO can go to the UNSC and unilaterally declare independence if they know the US will back such a move. Far from been a ‘vanquished people’, as some Ynuts have claimed, the Palestinians are no their way of achieving what no Israeli could ever do namely establishing Israel’s permanent and defined borders.

Gabe Yakmore ,   Can   (10.16.10)
Send them back to live in peace and harmony with their Arab brothers. Judea and Samaria is the Land of Israel. Always was and always will be.

You are not. Get out of their home. Now!
11. #7 - If the PA declares state, Oslo Accords end.
Sandra ,   NYC   (10.16.10)
If the PA makes unilateral moves to declare statehood, the Oslo Accords are finished. Israel is free at that point to make her own unilateral moves. Israel can annex Judea and Samaria. The world might not like it, but Israelis are already there in large numbers of people along with the IDF. The world isn't going to go to war for Abu Mazen who can't even be talked into sitting down with Israel while Obama promises to be on his side in the peace talks. Israel must annex Judea and Samaria. The PA must dissolve and Fatah must leave along with Hamas and all the other terror gangs. Israel can offer citizenship to the rest of the Palestinians without losing Israel's Jewish majority. The security fence would have to stay up for a long time too. If Israel was becoming irrelevant, the whole world wouldn't be holding its breath to see if 238 apartments are going to be built in northern Jerusalem.
12. alternatives
moshon   (10.16.10)
israel should look at radical alternatives figuring 2 factors- a) Jews are a modern democratic business people whereas PLO led arabs are old world mafia islamic gangs. b) Based on 62 years experience, it has been hell to live with arabs excluding msot druse and some bedouin. If the UN dedicates a new land of size to israel and financial reward, it may be of interest to consider packing up and starting over a new land. Living with arabs has been a bloody toothache and like erdogan, lies are truths, dishonor is waived like a flag and life is a never-ending argument. True,t hat giving up heritage to ancient israel will not be easy but the advantage would be a physical and cultural separation from the arab world. let them drown in their internecine quarrels. Rabdo, erekat, abbas, bargouti, haniyeh, zohar are as obnoxious a group with al the same story of woe as they pillage arab cofffers behind closed doors. Its called oil and taking western appeasment money by the millions.

Harry Wright ,   UK   (10.17.10)
your spot-on comments and highly entertaining and informative rebuttals. You drive the opposition nuts and try as hard as they might to respond to you, they are not in your league at all. Ms Matty is a glutton for punishment from you. By George! I think she is a masochist. Keep up the good work.
16. #7 - peace requires an end to hostilities
William ,   Israel   (10.17.10)
and Arabs just haven't gotten to the point of a Jewish State in the region in which Jews hold power over their own self-determination. The Arabs rejected it in 1947 and multiple times up until now. Hamas still declares it will destroy Israel but will currently accept 1967 borders - and their line of thinking is the most popular among Arabs today. So unless peace comes with an end of aggression the day an agreement is signed, it's not worth discussing - and the Arabs simply said they can't accept that. Question is - why can't you accept that this is their position?
17. Matty Groves fast approaching his fate?
Brian Cohen ,   Judean Peoples Front   (10.17.10)
"Matty Groves" is a pseudonym taken from a folk tale. As the story goes, Matty Groves has a philanderer who in the end is killed by the husband of the wife he was adultering with. Matty, are you telling us that your time is up? Isolation? Sure, Matty, we'll take our isolation. For those of you who are NOT Matty Groves, you'll have noticed that Israel is setting new records this year for tourism. This means, of course, that instead of being more isolated, more people are choosing to come to Israel. Our economy is expanding, and the Greeks appear to be very happy to pick up the slack their fellow NATO partners Turkey left around. The Palestinians, on the other hand, continue to confound themselves and the civilized world. For 10 months of construction freeze, the Palestinians refused to negotiate. Of course, when the freeze came to an end and the Palestinians had resumed their fatal terrorism, suddenly Israeli construction is an issue again. Well, Matty, the bottom line is that the world is getting fed up with the Palestinians, not Israel. They're tired of dumping billions of your tax money only to see it squandered, and with the Palestinians shooting each other (somehow your not the only person with their head in the ground on that one). So, Matty, if we're becoming irrelevant to you then do yourself (and us) a favor.....stop reading YNET and posting your comments! I mean really, you yourself conclude that the subject is irrelevant, right?
18. Sarah B..what heart?
Gazan   (10.17.10)
Harry obviously has a poor and already dismissed understanding of history. The PLO recognized Israel's right to exist as an independent state, but not as a specifically Jewish state. If it was so important for a peace agreement that the PLO recognize a specifically Jewish state, then Israel would have demanded that decades ago, instead of simply demanding it be recognized as an independent state. This shows that the new "amendment" to the demand is Harry's "red herring". To top it off, let's keep in mind that a significant sector of Israeli society doesn't agree with this new demand, so let's stop deluding ourselves. The whole world, including the US, France, Russia and the UN do not recognize the legitimacy of the settlements and want them stopped, if not dismantled altogether. This is a fact. So I would hardly HARDLY call building them a "side road". This is the thinking of someone who doesn't have a clue to what's going on in the international arena. In fact, Harry doesn't have a clue to what's going on in Israel/Palestine itself. It shows from his old and bankrupt "Jordan is the Palestinian state" argument. It's old, guys..come on now. I definitely agree with one thing Harry said: that your comments are "entertaining".
19. question for israelis
Idalia ,   the netherlands   (10.17.10)
Does anyone know whether the Arabs/Palestinians who live in East Jerusalem are allowed to buy/rent the new housing structures? Or is it always Jews-only/Arab-only building in Israel? Hoping for an answer :)
