1. GET OVER IT ALREADY
LAWRENCE RAP ARTISTE ,   SAFED ISRAEL   (10.18.10)
The death of Rabin was very sad but close the subject please .It is becoming a bore.....yawn.
2. Correction
Israel Israeli ,   Tel Aviv   (10.18.10)
Har Shefi was not deemed an accomplice. Har Shefi was charged with "not preventing a crime", a law that previously had only been used to add jail time to gang members, and never before to an 18-year old with a clean police record. The question remains is when Dalia Rabin will demand that Yigal Amir's best friend and confidant, SHABAK agent Avishai Raviv, stop receiving his generous monthly pension and also be jailed for the same crime.
3. a number of things
Golan ,   Modiin   (10.18.10)
1. Israeli society before the assassination did not like Rabin. He was a disaster who tore the nation apart. 2. He was PM, DM, Minister of internal security, Minister of education, and minister of religious affairs. People seem to forget how many portfolios he held when he was murdered. In addition to this he was barely in Israel as he was traveling the world dealing with diplomacy (the job of a foreign minister.) 3. he was a failure. his policies brought Israel to the hight of terror and the over investment in Israel from outside sources created a bubble that burst and brought Israel into a deep recession 4. he was insulting to the victims of terror and he handed assets to terrorists for trepeated empty promises they never lived up to 5. I believe that in the end he saw Oslo as a mistake. It is a shame he was assassinate. But he was a horrible leader whose life can be characterized as someone who brought Israel to the brink of civil war in the Season affair and the Altalena affair, and later in the Oslo/Oslo II Accords. It was only his death at the hand of a criminal that brought the nation from the brink. Israeli democracy was never in danger, Israel as a Jewish State was by the actions of the former Education Minister Shulamit Aloni who was eventually fired. 6. he called his opponents "cowards of peace," he was a fool of the farce.
4. Shame on You: 1-3: You are missing the point.
Essie HaKohane ,   Florida, USA   (10.18.10)
The issue is not Rabin or his policies. It was a dark day in Israel when one of our own citizins committed the act of assasination. As an American, we don't justify these horrid attempts on our democracy. We do not question the policies of the Presidents who were assasinated. Israel is a very young democracy. All talkbacks should denounce such acts. It is for the sake of your survival as a democratic country.
5. #4: We do not want democracy, LULU!
Israeli 2   (10.18.10)
It is for the sake of your survival as a democratic country? Who are you to talk down at Israel and talkbackers. Talk with respect to Israelis and do not demand anything! #1 is correct. Enough is enough. My sincerest condolonces as well.
6. What do 3-year olds remember?
Madeleine ,   Israel   (10.18.10)
"Fifteen years have gone by since the murder and those who enlist today do not even remember where they were on that horrible night". Those who enlist today would be 3 years old, maximum 4 years old.How many people can remember where they were at a specific moment in time, when they were 3 or 4?
7. the assertions by some of the talkbacks...
Rafi ,   US   (10.18.10)
... particularly #3, against Rabin z"l are hideous. In terms of what Rabin accomplished for the security of the State of Israel over his career as an army officer, later as Chief of Staff during the 6 Day War, as Ambassador to the US and finally as Prime Minister - you and your ilk could not hold a candle to. The very ground you supposedly live on (Moddin) was secured by IDF forces in canmpaign planned and commanded by Rabin in 1967. You are basically biting the hand that has fed and secured your very existence! You are also ignoring the fact that during his funeral 15 years ago, over several million Israelis turned out to pay their final respect and love to the man who did so much for the country of Israel. How does that jive with your ridiculous claim that "Israeli society did not like Rabin?" What can be said is that ultimately you and your colleagues prefer settlements for yourselves more than peace for all of Israel. Rabin's great mistake - in your eyes - was that he always did what was best for Israel as a whole.
8. #3 and #7......
Freddy ,   Israel   (10.18.10)
Rabbin as Chief of Staff during the 6days war : after one day he had a nervous breakdown...went home and his job was done by Eliezer Weizman....Rabbin came back on day 6 to claim the victory. Never said a word of thanks to Weizman..... His murderer has still to be found as the one in prison could not have shot a fourth time on the breast..most probably in the car. We will never know, I presume.......
9. The last of the Mohikans
Nora Tel Aviv   (10.18.10)
Rabin was assassinated, that`s for sure. What is not sure is the role of the "terminators" that assured Rabin`s death. After 15 years of judicial silence we have reachesd today`s boring situation. As a cosequece, Rabin`s Labor party that had 40/120 Knesseth representation today is diluted to the Mohikan level. And this Mohikan`s days are counted.
10. #8: your assertions are preposterous...
Rafi ,   US   (10.18.10)
... and reflect an incredible ignorance about military planning and history. Do you really think that the outcome of the 6 Day War was predicated on a one day absence (or presence) of Rabin - or any other high commander? In fact, the war was a complete victory for Israel due to YEARS of preparation and planning, led by Rabin both as Chief of Staff, and prior to that as IDF Head of Planning. That Rabin MAY have collapsed prior to the war (not during) was testimony to the enormous pressure that was on the man (who chain-smoked and went for days without sleep during the period) - as well as the fact that he felt the fate of modern Israel was placed in his hands. So if he collapsed, it was not because of cowardice or inability, but because of his overwhelming concern and sense of responsibility. The vast majority of Israelis never forgot Rabin for what he did to deliver the modern nation at its critical juncture - as indicated by the massive turnout for his funeral. In short your ignorance of history and resultant distortions are obscene and shameful to a man who did so much for his country. God help Israel if the likes of you ever had to handle such responsibilities.
