They are also classes that tend to attract female students. Khamenei is trying to establish government control of all Iranian universities including a university with hundreds of branches in Iran privately owned by Rafsanjani. This university controls billions of dollars the government wants to take hold of. In addition, if you eliminate these subjects, you make it very difficult for Iranian students to transfer to universities outside Iran as these subjects represent core classes in most undergraduate curriculums.

Pretty much all of them. Students here are pretty much anti-religious, especially in the Technion, where religious studies aren't even a whole faculty.

it did not work. The Shah tried the same thing 60 years ago, and it did not work. This latest efforts to stifle the opposition voices in Iran will fail too.
