19 Talkbacks for this article
1. OY VEY! The gelt, stop messing with the gelt!
seadog1946 ,   Shooters Island, NJ   (10.25.10)
2. This was in my talkback this morning.
Terry ,   Eilat - Israel   (10.25.10)
C'mon, Ynet, get on the ball here. You were scooped by a talkbacker. What took you so long?
3. Kudos to Eric Cantor.
Terry ,   Eilat - Israel   (10.25.10)
This is an excellent idea. I think that this could be used to stop aid to ''Palestine'' in the event they attempt an unilateral declaration of independent statehood at the UN & Obama wants to abstain rather than veto.
4. I for one would love to see cuts in aid to PA, Hamas, Leb'n
Raymond in DC ,   Washington, USA   (10.25.10)
Why is it the US and the EU are the biggest providers of aid to the PA, UNRWA and (indirectly) Hamas? The Arabs who claim to care so much for their Palestinian "brothers" give them a pittance, often pledging sums that are never fulfilled. (And why not, if they're confident the "useful idiots" of the West, kuffars all, will pay up!) Those who complain about aid to Israel typically never mention that combined aid to Egypt, the Palestinians, Jordan and Lebanon consistently exceed that provided to Israel. And please, someone tell me why almost all the aid to Egypt is military - not economic. Exactly who are they planning to fight (as if we don't all know)?
5. Israel is 3rd on the aid list not 1st
Gee ,   Zikron Yaakov   (10.25.10)
Iraq and Afghanistan each get over ten times the amount that Israel does.
6. Thank you Mr. Kantor
JHL ,   USA   (10.25.10)
Eric Kantor is proving himself, time and again a true friend of Israel. A true American patriot and a concerned jew.He is possibly the best hope for vigilance in keeping American foreign policy on the right track.
7. The question is who determines american interest??
American tax payer.   (10.25.10)
I tend to trust the administration much more than Jewish congressman whose loyalty to US interests is highly in question. It is just a matter of time before Americans wake up and start realizing who those congressman are actually serving.
8. #7 American Interest
Solomon ,   Bklyn   (10.25.10)
The AMERICAN Jewish Congressmen are loyal to the US and see Israel as an ally; more so than Iran, Hizbulla, etc. It is obvious you do not agree, and so you raise the specter of disloyalty. And where are YOUR ancestors from?
9. Manna from heaven ...
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (10.25.10)
... and it isn't even Pesach! The U.S. Congress clearly intends to crack down on U.S. arms sales to countries that are not friendly to U.S. causes. They want to be able to control passage of the budget, but not at Israel's expense. By putting American arms sales to Israel into the Pentagon budget, the U.S. Congress effectively ensures that Israel will continue to receive scheduled arms deliveries on a timely basis, even if Congress decides to hold up the State Department budget (for whatever reason). Sweet. Also very smart. The Saudis, the Egyptians and the Jordanians do not exactly have what you can call stable governments. The U.S. armed the Iraqis and they armed the Afghani mujaheedin; weapons which were subsequently turned against Americans. Same thing with Pakistan. Even if the president hasn't a clue about the geopolitical reality of the Middle East, at least Congress does! I mean; let's get real -- $60 billion in advanced aircraft for the Saudis? What happens in the event of the overthrow of the Saudi government? Whose hands do all those advanced aircraft fall into? Isn't it bad enough they have AWACs? Same thing with Egypt. What will happen in Egypt following Mubarak's death is anyone's guess, but you can bet that the Moslem Brotherhood -- with its strong links to Iran and to Al Qaeda -- will definitely play a role. As to Jordan -- that's going to become, officially, the Palestinian state. If the Palestinians wish to keep it a monarchy, fine, but what if they don't? All hell will break loose there, too. The simple fact is that Israel is the only stable government in the Middle East. Only in Israel is government succession determined by free and open elections; this is a phenomenon that does not exist anywhere in the Arab and Moslem world (withness the fiasco that was the Iranian elections).
10. How about a discount?
Steve ,   USA   (10.25.10)
With so many of my tax dollars going over there, you'd think I could get a discount at Dizengoff or maybe some free shawarma next time I visit Tel Aviv.
11. The Reason The State Dept. Is Anti Israel
Dan ,   USA   (10.25.10)
Since there are more Arab countries than the single Jewish state, the US State department is filled with those who have serve in Arab countries during their tenure. It is no wonder the State department is one of the most anti Israel institutions in the United States. A switch to the Pentagon would aid Israel.
12. to all thos wgo are jumping for joy..
Abe ,   AZ   (10.26.10)
There is less sympathy in the pentagon toward Israel than in State. The pentagon is behind Obama policy in the ME, the pentagon is the body who stressed to Obama that the ME conflict is on the top national security threats to the US.
13. To: No. 12
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (10.26.10)
I respectfully beg to disagree. I think that the Pentagon -- staffed with military professionals as it is -- would be far more sympathetic to Israel's geopolitical position. They understand how wars work; the same cannot be said for the State Department. It's called "Foggy Bottom" for a reason.
14. #10, I think for the average of 10USD
Danny   (10.26.10)
a year you are paying you should be able to even get fries - no drink though.
15. #7, lucky they are only 32 out of 435 then
Danny   (10.26.10)
By the way who are the congressman of African-American or Irish-American or english-american serving?
16. #5 and the PA is not far behind Israel and Egypt
Danny   (10.26.10)
17. We should be so lucky!
Seth ,   Chicago - USA   (10.27.10)
With over a million children under twelve living in the streets, America should be giving aid to their own. What father would feed his neighbors child when his own child is starving?
18. Symington Amendment
Greg Diablo ,   Olympia, WA, USA   (10.27.10)
By giving foreign aid to a nuclear power, the US is violation the Symington amendment and the Glenn Act. So Mr. Cantor is not a friend to Israel, he is a traitor to the rule of law and the U.S. No man can serve two masters, and Cantor needs to declare his loyalty to the Constitution, not to Tel Aviv.
19. No More Money to Warmongers...
J ,   Hackettstown,NJ, USA   (10.28.10)
...Foreign or Domestic! I don't care which flag they fly or which god they worship.
