2. how can you steal what already belongs to you
zionist forever   (10.26.10)
The British illegally traded the Golan to France in exchange for the Iraqi province of Mousal. Had they not traded it then the Golan would have ended up part of Israel. Syria also chose to start a war in 1967 and Israeli soldiers died taking it and we have no business to give it to Syria. Strategically Assad does not need the Golan and Syria has no shortage of land what he wants is a substantial share of Kineret water. The Golan itself is just about getting one over on Israel all Assad really wants is Israels water and he will of course probably insist on US military aid. Replace his Soviet era MIG 25s with F16s armed with US missiles and his T72s with Abrams tanks... all things Obama would be delighted to give, If Assad wants peace he has to accept its an unconditional peace the Golan does and must always belong to Israel not a man who is proud of the fact he supports terror and calls on palestinians not to make peace and continue the intefada.
3. hey syria - denial isn't just a river in egypt
mike ,   israel (formerly usa   (10.26.10)
it is also several rivers in the golan heights which, like the nile in egypt, is water which doesn't belong to you, haha!
4. stealing Golan IS okay...stealing Golan water is NOT okay !!

What a Joke !
5. SYRIA DOES NOT HAVE AND NEVER HAD ANY RIGHTS TO GOLAN

6. #2 - the Germans started a war in Europe
seadog1946 ,   Shooters Island, NJ   (10.26.10)
and American soldiers died to end that war... I'm just wondering where/whom in the US government can I petition to have a power line and road built to the Americans-only settlement that I plan to build on any barren hilltop in Tuscany or Bavaria. Perhaps if I included excerpts from a book of fables I am currently writing... called "Tales Of Remembered dreams while under the influence of Hashish" (aka TORH), would provide credulity to my claims of hilltop ownership.
7. How about . . .
AlbertoGA ,   St. George, USA   (10.26.10)
Stealing the air. Hum what is next from the morons ?
8. #6 seadog
Johan Sebastian ,   Holland   (10.26.10)
Before dreaming of Europe give back to the natives the land your fathers stole from the native indians.
9. I guess he hasn't heard ....
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (10.26.10)
The Golan Heights were formally annexed in 1982. They are a part of Israel, and Israel can do with its fresh water sources whatever it likes. If Syria is running out of water -- and there is plenty of credible evidence that this is indeed the case -- they should take up the problem with their brand-new best friend, Turkey. Turkey has been co-opting the Euphrates River for years -- by the time it gets to Syria and Iraq, it is barely a trickle. But it is SO much easier and internationally acceptable to blame Israel. That's why no one pays attention to Arab whining any more.
10. To: No. 6
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (10.26.10)
And just why do you think there are United States military bases in both Italy and Germany? Do you think it's because the Germans and the Italians really like having U.S. bases in their respective countries, or do you suppose it just might have something to do with the outcome of World War II and those huge Marshall Plan loans which rebuilt both Germany and Italy following the war and which the United States susbequently forgave? Duh. Lay off the hashish; it's addling your brain.
11. How about Syria stealing Lebanon????
David H ,   Cape Town South Afr   (10.26.10)
What inventive liars the Syrians and Arabs are.... and always on emotive issues little understood by most people because they have no knowledge on the subject. This is the power of soundbytes. However, let us not forget how the marauding Arabs stole all the lands as they burst out of Arabia and now Syria carries on that tradition aided and abetted by Iran. Don't cry for me Lebanon, the truth is Syria always coveted you and the world at large does not give a damn.
12. Water..water...water...wate...wat...wa....w...
Ezra ,   Florida   (10.26.10)
Now,poor Syrians. Even the water is being stolen from them. The teacher ( Al Moualem in Arabic means : THE TEACHER ) said so. But these Arabs never learn, They will forever cry over everything under the sun and under the water,
13. Note to UN
Gee ,   Zikron Yaakov   (10.26.10)
Syria is polluting our air. Tell them to stop breathing.
14. Israel bought the Golan from Assad
Golan ,   Modiin   (10.26.10)
we paid $3 million for it. It is not "occupied" its it "purchased."
15. #4 - neither is really stealing
William ,   Israel   (10.26.10)
let's face it, Syria is lucky Damascus isn't a crater by now with the 4 years of war crimes committed when they used the Golan to shell civilian communities inside Israel. Morally and legally, the Golan had to be emptied of these criminals, and per Intl Law, Israel has a right to annex it - as well as protect the people, property, water, etc. on the Golan, which it does.
16. Stop the "stealing" yourselves cowards.
Noodles ,   Coney Island   (10.26.10)
17. 15
Ahmed ,   Majdal Shams   (10.26.10)
Israel annexation of the Golan is an act which been recognized or accepted by any international body, EU, US and UN included. Syria is basically acting on behalf of its Druze citizens living in villages around Birkat Ram like Majdel Shams and others. Those people lived off the water in the pool for generations and now are facing severe shortage of water which is directed to Jewish settlements in the Golan. The UN will have to address this issue.
18. Syria lost the war AND the Golan, the ISRAELI Golan now.
Bunnie Meyer ,   Los Angeles, CA USA   (10.26.10)
Let this be a lesson to dingbats who start wars, you may have less land after the war you started is finished.
19. #10 - US military bases in Europe and the Marshall Plan
seadog1946 ,   Shooters Island, NJ   (10.26.10)
money had more to do countering the percieved/made-up military threat from the bolshevik/socialist empire called the USSR. In any event... there was no US policy to settle American civilians in American-only settlements in occupied Europe after WW2... but then, US territorial expansion was never a goal in engaging the axis powers in WW2. There are no American-only settlements, roads in Europe. There are no US military manned roadblocks/checkpoints in Europe.
20. #6 Maybe not the Yankees
Raphael ,   Netanya   (10.26.10)
But the Russians annexed millions sq miles from Eastern Europe, and stil retain Prussia, an area as large as Israel.
21. 17#, Ahmed, are you really a Druze?
Judah ,   Golan Heights,ISRAEL   (10.26.10)
I have Druze friends living in Ein Quienia, and Bukata. Every spring we go fishing in Lake Ram. Recently I asked them why the water there is almost gone? They told me that the farmers in Magdel Shams are using too much of the water. Unlike you they did not blame Israel for this sad situation.
22. BOVINE BLISS!!
JHL ,   USA   (10.26.10)
Perhaps mr. MOO-allem needs this extra water to wash down all of the Massive foodstufs he's been eating.Perhaps he should petition the U.N.For a seperate grazing area for all of his extra eating endeavors.
23. would you like some cheeze
pini ,   usrael   (10.26.10)
with that whine?
24. #17 - you are no longer Syrian citizens
William ,   Israel   (10.26.10)
Since 1982, you are Israeli citizens and you carry Israeli ID cards, receive Israeli benefits, and live off of Israeli infrastructure. Citizens from the Golan who lived off the pool also admitted their population growth is part of the affect. As to the water resource, while all citizens should have equal right to water, one population cannot demand exclusive rights to one source within a multi-cultural nation. That itself is Apartheid and racist, and it will not be accepted in Israel. ALL sources of water are property of the entire State population, just as ALL citizens deserve access to water via Mekorot. And since the Golan was won in a defensive war, after 4 years of Syrian war crimes on Israeli citizens (which apparently the Golani Druze agreed with because they never stopped the Syrians, and are therefore guilty by association), the Intl Law allows for transferred properties won through such wars AND in order to stop future aggressions by the enemy party (Syria). The UN could touch it back in 1967 and they won't be able to touch it in 2010. So stick to your apple harvest and be glad you have water at all. Under Assad, it wouldn't be guaranteed.
25. #19 - there were also no suicide bombings...
William ,   Israel   (10.26.10)
or drive by shootings, or full-scale attacks on civilians in post-WWII, was there? Were Americans living in Germany and rest of Europe ethnically cleansed by Nazis from their homes? Of course not, but Jews were in West Bank and Gaza in 1948...lots of them. The ME is a unique situation with a unique history. You cannot compare it with other situations. Plus, the Americans were there to stop a racist despotic maniac, the same reason Israel entered West Bank and Gaza in 1967 after 10 years of cross border attacks by the Fayhadeen. And, it appears you have NO basis in history. There were indeed roadblocks in post-WWII Europe, mostly near the Iron Curtain. And it was under the Allied umbrella, but run mostly by US and UK.
26. Syria is thirsty because of dumb Assad decisions
William ,   Israel   (10.26.10)
The Syrians wasted all their damn water on farmland that wasn't managed properly and then forced all the farmers to relocate somewhere else inside Syria without direction of compensation. Another case of Arabs trying to suck the blood of Israel and Intl orgs for huge mistakes they refuse to fix or take responsibility for.
27. The Golan = Israel...maybe the Syrians
Chris Rettenmoser ,   Bayerisch Gmain Germ   (10.26.10)
should import water from their dear friends in Iran...or eat sand...
28. Israel
