1. Friendman is no Zionist
Top Cat ,   Great Neck, USA   (10.28.10)
While visiting the Kotel, I asked the Israeli Soldier with a book in his hand what he was reading. He answered From Beirut to Jerusalem, Friedman's first book. I asked him what it was about. He hesitated and then said " I can tell you one thing he is NO ZIONiIST. This was in 1990. Enough said.
2. Friedman is a fan of the "Saudi Peace Initiative"
Kyle ,   Southpark, CO, USA   (10.28.10)
Otherwise known as "The Saudi Kingdom's Terms of Surrender for Israel"
3. Total Bunk
Ralph Levy ,   USA   (10.28.10)
I have been following Friedman for years and I have never heard him say a good thing about Israel or defend Israel He is a self hating Jew. http://ralphsrant1.blogspot.com
4. NO place for Judas
Brod ,   USA   (10.28.10)
Israel should not listen to any Judases. Lefists who do not know the GOD of Israel and the Land of Israel are not true Jews. They are Judases and Pagans. Israel should not listen to them. In fact, Israel should tell them to mind their own business. They are now being used by the dark forces to crusade their Jihadism on Israel.
5. Mr. Know-it-all
David Yashar ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (10.28.10)
Weisglass is right in saying that Friedman is not a self-hating Jew. He is, however, the biggest know-it-all in a land of know-it-all political pundits. A review of his work over the past 10 years shows that 3/4 of the time, his analysis is woefully incorrect. He worries over Israel's standing with America. However, that worry is the result of his living in a liberal Democratic Upper West Side New York cocoon, filled with Jews who are embarrassed by Israel. In the rest of the U.S. (that is, among Christians), Israel is very popular, and the Arabs viewed with suspicion and skepticism. So don't worry about Israel's being viewed as a spoiled baby. Obama might be against us, but the average American is not.
6. Friedman spent a semester in Cairo when Egypt was at war
Dani ,   Tel Aviv   (10.28.10)
with Israel. Just last year Weisglass said that we will eventually give up all of the settlements. He has no balls and so of course he is afraid of Friedman. We need leaders with balls and brains- people who can tell the world unabashedly that we have a right to our land. Neither one of these guys gets it.
7. Mr Friedman is a MORAN.
NYC Jew ,   USA   (10.28.10)
Mr. Friedman and his kind simply fail to understand the centrality of Islam in the lives of Muslims. Peace with non believers is not allowed in Islam! A cursory study of Islam, its foundations, believes, history will clearly show that.
8. IMPORTANT, INFLUENTIAL man????
Israeli 2   (10.28.10)
I have just made Friedman very UNimportant and VERY UNinfluential! How is that? Cowards and Traitors do not help Israel's cause. It seems that OBaBa will not even last one term!! Concentrate on why THAT is Weiskoph!
9. Thomas Friedman
Jan ,   Houston, USA   (10.28.10)
Thomas Friedman is not God...far from it. He is not a prophet, and obviously not a friend of the Israeli government or public. He is just a journalist, and frankly, not even particularly good at it. He mostly criticizes, and complains, at Israel's expense. Israel is NOT America's child, it is a mutually beneficial relationship between two sovereign nations, not between a parent and child! American NEEDS TO LISTEN TO ISRAEL....Thomas does not live in Israel, and has no right to speak for the Israelis. Let's him him shift some of his endless blame unto the Palis...where it rightfully belongs.
10. Shady Weinglass.
Ilan ,   Ariel   (10.28.10)
Everyone knows about Weinglass engineering the pullout from Gaza in order to help one client deflect prosecution for corruption and to help another with his "investments" with the PA. We also know how Friedman wrote the Arab peace plan and his feelings about Israel from the first Lebanon war where he openly identified with the PLO. Truly Weinglass and Friedman deserve each other. The only question is why has G-d punished us with them.
11. Friedman's Lament
Joe K ,   California/Jerusalem   (10.28.10)
Tom Friedman's concern underscores the incompetence of Israeli PR in challenging the BIG LIE ARAB Narrative of victim hood. Jewish silence in the face of repeated propaganda attacks make Goebbels beam with pride from his grave. It is akin to the Jewish Silence during the Holocaust. When will we recognize that the world's war against the Jews is not over. Friedman decries the stupidity of tactics. We may appear to be spoiled children because we haven't made our case. We haven't developed the sound byte sized phrases that can put the onus on the side of the Arabs that No One wants, who perpetuate a myth of nationhood to hasten our destruction. Jews and Israelis, for reasons that boggle the mind, steadfastly refuse to challenge the revisionist history in the arab narrative: Exaggerated claims of numbers of displaced, hijacking global humanitarian organizations to create an empire of service to keep people in camps, arab refusal to grant jews the rights of self determination, repeated demonstration of political instability incompatible with the need to maintain quiet along borders, beheadings, suicide bombings, hypocrisy of african archbishops, the list goes on and on.
12. you literally feel your IQ dropping while reading friedman
mike ,   israel (formerly usa   (10.28.10)
tom friedman lives in an imaginary totalitarian utopia of his own fancy, completely disconnected with reality. don't get me wrong, he does have some good insights but you have to sift through a mountain of rubbish to find them. save your brain cells and read something else worthwhile.
13. Can't believe it
Reuven ,   Israel   (10.28.10)
Says a lot about Weisglass that he should be taken in by Friedman. Over the years I have not read anything by Friedman that suggests his dire warnings about Israel should be taken seriously. He follows PC which is much of the NYT agenda.
14. "Support for Israel is declining"
John   (10.28.10)
"Support for Israel is declining among the Jewish community" after the next holocaust they will support Israel again and run to Israel for protection!
15. Friedman is a SUPER self-hating Jew!!!!
Hana   (10.28.10)
16. Dov Weisglass has no standing on morality and survival
m   (10.28.10)
You Mr. Weisglass represent the worst in Israelis, this is why you found your kindred soul in another Jewish traitor. We have plenty of those in Israel and you are one of their representatives with hands in every pie that was poison for Israel.
17. How much did Dov get paid for this article ?
Norman   (10.28.10)
18. Judge Goldstone, Dov Weisglass and Friedman Good Kapos
Harry   (10.28.10)
The biggest mistake by Sharon is to take Weisglass as an advisor. He Ruined Sharon's reputation specifically with the expulsion of Jews from Gush Katif, Ruined so many Jews. and he has the Gall to offer more destructive opinions. Dov, Shut up we have had enough of you already.
19. No #12, I feel my IQ dropping while reading talkbacks
David ,   Los Angeles   (10.28.10)
Just from the talkback titles, I can read how "Friendman" is a "Moran" and the writer of the article "Weinglass" is shady. Wow, a real bunch of geniuses here. What a know-it-all Friedman is. He can even spell his own name!
20. Surrender!!!
David ,   USAS/ISRAEL/EGYPT   (10.28.10)
I am glad we have in Israel smarter people than those two self hating Jews, who believe the only way to save Israel is to surrender to Obama and the Muslim nations. My word is Friedman and Weisglass you will never see that day I guaranty it
21. Punditry - where mistakes are cost-free
Raymond in DC ,   Washington, DC USA   (10.28.10)
The great thing about being a journalistic "pundit", especially if one works for a supportive organization of like-minded like the NY Times - is that one can be wrong, even repeatedly, and not be called on it. Friedman's forte is cliches and promoting new paradigms despite their lack of foundation. By the time the fallacy is evident, he's gone on to his latest schtick. His active promotion of the Saudi "peace plan" is nothing short of willful blindness. And as one Israeli, in response to the constant hectoring from one US official to do this or that, told him, "In the end, you'll return to Chevy Chase (an upper class neighborhood of Washington) while we'll live with the consequences." Friedman's life in ritzy Manhattan will likewise go on.
22. Dov, you are working for Kadima, so say so.
Mark C   (10.28.10)
Dov, its clear you are working for Kadima, so say so. Friedman is, and was if not anti Israel at least a friend (a good one) of the Palesinians ( judging from his won writing). You are using him with out shame to try to frighten Israelis in to support Kadima, or at least put pressure on the government. You are a lawyer, I am not sure it is a compliment.
23. Here we go again ,...
split ,   USA   (10.28.10)
What an arrogant , self-righteous bunch of buffoons - No wonder that you can't coexist with the rest of us.
24. why is this news?
pini ,   usrael   (10.28.10)
25. FRIEDMAN IS A LOSER AND A RAVING LUNATIC
SETTHERECORDSTRAIGHT   (10.28.10)
AT BEST.
26. #5 is dead on!
yaakov ,   jerusalem   (10.28.10)
27. Often wrong
Carl   (10.28.10)
It doesn't matter if he is a self-hating Jew or not. Anyone who has read him over the years knows that as far as the middle east goes he is more often wrong than right.
28. Nobody listens to Friedman anymore
sw ,   raanana   (10.28.10)
This guy lost all credibility in th US with his Al Gore worship. He was always working against the interests of the Israeli people trying to find favor with his Arab friends who were probably paying him off.
29. Have to say, I've been a fan of Friedman's work for a long
Jacob Blues ,   New York City, USA   (10.28.10)
time, but that last column seemed to me to be one of two things. Either A: Tom Friedman jumped off a ledge into the deep-end of the myopia pool. B: The Obama administration sent marching orders to the NY Times to ratchett up the pressure on Netanyahu. I've been a long-time reader of the paper, and in the past year, have looked at its op-ed pages as I once did the Wall St. Journal; highly-partisan, loopy, and with an extreme agenda that should either be ignored or confronted. Weisglass should note that in the same week that Tom published his "spoiled child" column, Roger Cohen and others came out and blasted Israel. Prior to that, the NY Times was silent on its commentary towards Israel. Now, one could claim that the NY Times and its editors (of which Mr. Friedman is one) have swallowed the progressive's poison that Israel is an anathma. Or, the Obama adminsistration, looking for a way to retailiate against the Netanyahu government for spurning its supposed 'generous offers' to help him with a difficult mid-term election season. The reality is, Netanyahu stuck to his principles over the 10-month freeze, and both the US, Arabs, and Palestinian Authority dickered during that time period. Friedman's column appears to be part of a blame game - scape goat hunt. I agree with Weisglass that Israel should have provided better communication over its decision, but the idea that everyone in the US, including American Jews are reducing their support for Israel, doesn't seem to measure out with the facts on the ground. One point that Tom does make is the ongoing issue with the aid provided by the US to Israel. Regardless of its purpose, its benefit seems to be diminishing, and should probably be ended if it is a factor in constraining Israel's decision-making ability.
30. The wind of change is here
Thomas ,   Dixieland USA   (10.28.10)
Anyone who reads Ynet and taking part in the discussions most likely noticed the drastic change of tone which occurred recently. Forget the resident inveterate antisemites' drooling and reckon the pro-Israeli opinions. There is a palpable, almost unanimous, resolute rejection of the Liberal elite's taking points which is presented here time to time. The Obama worshiping New York Times - Jstreet type Jewish American Marxist influence is on the wane as more and more sane Jew is distancing himself/herself from the anti-Israeli Obama-Soros-Friedman coterie. The Israeli media people better listen up to our voices instead of the Olmertistas propaganda. Just yesterday Mr. Sever Plocker pusillanimous article was strongly rebuffed by the majority of the Jewish readers. The massage is clear: Capitulation, dhimmitude, appeasement, self-loathing don't sell anymore: keep it within New York City and Hollywood Leftist, elitist circle.
