1. no yarmulkas on Ynet!!!!
sam ,   jerusalem   (10.28.10)
Whats the difference to Ynet who attack the kippot all day! there is no difference in their hate to yours!!!!
2. Where does it say Halacha that brimmed hats....
Dorothy Friend ,   Tel Aviv   (10.28.10)
... are a part of required dress for a Jew. (Which is not to say I agree with the confiscations)
3. Flaunting the religious life style
Haim ,   Tel aviv   (10.28.10)
If religious Israelis insist on flaunting their religious life style in foreign countries what should they expect ?
4. to #2 the great Kohan
ghostq   (10.28.10)
in the Temple used to wear it,
5. I understand why the Jordanians do this
Israeli   (10.28.10)
there is a legitimate threat to Jews in Muslim countries and they want to avoid any violence in their country. Besides how disturbing this is, if Israel had done the same for Arabs- say banning the wearing of a kafiah for security reasons- the world (particularly the Arab world) would go nuts (and rightfully so) screaming how racist Israelis are. I say this only to make those anti-Israel people think about what they say: there is racism in Israel but no more than in the Arab world and both are wrong. Stop being selective.
6. I understand why Jordan does this
Cynthia ,   USA   (10.28.10)
They are responsible for your security when you enter their country. No need to make yourself a target for some lunatic to attack you.
7. Seems only fair since France is baning Muslim Headdresses
Johan Odin ,   Oslo, Norway   (10.28.10)
If it OK to ban Muslim Headdresses in so called democracies around the wold such as France, it is certainly OK to do the same thing for headgear worn by Jews or Christians etc. by others..
8. You all forget: Jordan is a hot pot of anti-Israel racism
Brian Cohen ,   Judean Peoples Front   (10.28.10)
Jordan has a reputation for having a society that rejects its government's decision to sign a peace treaty with Israel. There are many professional organizations in Jordan that make Palestinian official racism look tame. Far from promoting peace with Israel, you can find dozens of organizations in Jordan that want to cancel the peace treaty and go to war.
9. yarmulkes in solidarity with burqa :))))))))
Salma ,   Palestine   (10.28.10)
bye bye religious symbols .
10. cynthia
richi ,   Israel EIlat   (10.28.10)
I dont wear a kippa, and I am against racism and probably many of the talkbackers here would call me a leftist extremist. However this is not good, If western business men were forbidden to wear suits would that be ok? If women entering Jordan were made to wear birkas so as not be victims of terror would that be ok? If by wearing short trousers and a tshirt as a tourist you are a potential victim of terror and the decision by this country will be prevent you from entering the country is this ok? The issue here is not the kippa but rather, that the authorities clearly are taking the route of surrendering to Terror, instead of fighting it in the national interst. Jordan is under no definition an extremist regime, this kind of thing is a worry development.
11. #3 They should expect honor and respect
Shalom   (10.28.10)
because they don't "flaunt" it. They wear it as a sign of YIRAT SHAMAYIM. Generally those who have Heavenly fear are more trustworthy. I say 'generally' because there are exceptions to this rule, of course. But it has been proven, there is more corruption, evil and dishonesty by those who do not have Heavenly fear.
12. Palestinian kingdom of jordan bans Tefilins as well!
Trumpeldor ,   eurabia   (10.28.10)
Security reasons ?????
13. Salma, a burqa is not a religious symbol
Tahl ,   Ashdod   (10.28.10)
The burqa has absolutely nothing related to the actual Islamic religion as given by Muhammad. It is merely a symbol of women's oppression as adopted by primitive and insecure Muslim men. A yarmulke on the other hand, is indeed a Jewish religious symbol, which oppresses no one.
14. kippot
sas ,   israel   (10.28.10)
NO NEED TO TRAVEL TO JORDAN
15. #7
Rachel ,   Hadera   (10.28.10)
Why is it fair since "France is banning Muslim Headdresses"? Here in Israel, Muslim women are free to dress as they see fit. Obviously you have never been to Israel or you would know that some Muslim woman wear the traditional dress and a lot don't. But it's their right to choose. In this Israel is apparently much more liberal than Europe. So why should religious Israelis be punished for Europe's double standards?
16. No yarmulkes allowed in Jordan
renaud sarda ,   glasgow   (10.28.10)
I am from Glasgow in Scotland and here most if all us Jews do not wear yarmulkes outside our areas for safety reason. The same goes for the rest of the UK or France where you are advise not bring attention to yourself!!!!
17. The yellow star
Raphael ,   Netanya   (10.28.10)
was a sign imposed by Caliph Haroon al Rasheed, some 12 centuries ago, to single out the Jews. Now they ask the Jews not to be signalled. Goyim Naches!
18. Some religious Jews abandon their Kippa
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (10.28.10)
in Europe too , VOLUNTARELY out of fearing for their security . And this , personnally seen , even in a town where there are many religious and charidi Jews .
19. tolerance
sleepless   (10.28.10)
so much for religious tolerance in arab countries! What so the Jews who live there do? Oh right, Jews don't live there, or they hide identities. And they call Israel racist??????
20. The Arabs want to live in peace...
Chris Rettenmoser ,   Bayerisch Gmain Germ   (10.28.10)
A small reality check from Jordan, the land living in "peace" with Israel...
21. Re #7
Andrew Brehm   (10.28.10)
First time I hear the argument that Jewish men wear kippas because of pressure by women. (Unless of course you didn't understand that the ban in France is for burqas which are NOT Muslim headdresses and degrade women.)
22. Re #6 Impossible!
Andrew Brehm   (10.28.10)
That's impossible. We all know that Arabs are not antisemitic and that it is only Israel's policies they are upset with. There is hence absolutely no reason for the Jordanien state to "protect" Jews by making them look as if they are not Jewish. Even the racist oppressive apartheid state of Israel doesn't see a need to ask Muslims entering the country to look less Muslim for security reasons so I really don't see why such measures would be necessary in peace-loving friendly Arab societies.
23. @7, @19
Dani ,   Netherlands   (10.28.10)
so, when france does something, it's ok for another country to do the same? that's a little bit strange.. plus, the fact that a burqa isn't a kerchief, which is allowed!
24. #9Unlike a kafia and a kipa,a burqa,is a dangerous face mask
Shalom   (10.28.10)
Jordan like many other nations including the Leftists in Israel are anti-Semites.
25. Flaunting Jewish symbols
dov epstein ,   efrat, Israel   (10.28.10)
Can't do much about our noses can we? The Nazis saw them and killed the Jews. Christians wear crosses, and are they flaunting? well, yes. and when you see an Arab in Manhatan, with his big wide kipa, beard, and galabiya, is he flaunting? Everybody pleasedress the same! The WORLD is afraid of the Jew because their religion speaks about truth they fear, and so they wish to smite us.
26. 23- and the connection
sleepless   (10.28.10)
to my post is....??
27. To #7 & #9 - a tiny kipa is not a disguise
Israeli grandma   (10.28.10)
A small headcovering worn by Jewish men is not comparable with the burka or hijab which disguises women (or possibly a man under it). This is a security risk in modern societies. The Islamic veil is not an original Islamic religious requirement but has become a political image, along with its function as a method of controlling and obliterating women in modern societies. Of course Europe and America find this objectionable and dangerous!
28. to #7 lol the yamurkah is smaller than a cap hat
ghostq   (10.28.10)
you will have to ban cap hats as well, maybe that will do it. no gangster fashion style for anyone indeed.
29. Security reasons ?
Serge ,   Antwerp, Belgium   (10.28.10)
if security reasons are involved, why are jews not allowed to pray in their hotel rooms, in private, wearing their religious attributes ?
30. #2: what is your question?
david ,   new york   (10.28.10)
neither brimmed hats nor yarmulkes are required by halacha. however, they have become strongly held traditions and one required to follow the tradition passed to him (and THAT is a halacha). "minhag avoseinu b'yadeinu"
