1. "Israel" is not on american people list of priorities
Salma ,   Palestine   (11.03.10)
National polling data prove that "Israel" is not a deciding factor even for most Jewish voters.....the economy, unemployment and health care topped the list of Jewish voters’ concerns, you're not the issue Mr. Ettinger .
2. correction to article: 1938 election
Yaeli ,   Tel Aviv   (11.03.10)
You mean the 1938 midterm election, not 1948. In '38, at the end of the New Deal there was a massive revolt of the voters and they ushered in a party change of 72 seats in the House.
3. Judeo Christian Heritage basis for the United States of Am
Jae ,   Lynn USA   (11.03.10)
America
4. Nonsense. There is one issue that determined
Dave   (11.03.10)
that election and that is jobs and the economy. Israel has played no role, in the election but etinger with his twisted and rich imagination is trying to put his usual spin there. nonsense.
5. #1 Americans know where their...
Noodles ,   Coney Island   (11.03.10)
bread is buttered, and outside a few squirrelly ones, (Groves, Benassi, etc) they know it's not with "Palestine",
6. "Israel" is not on american people list of priorities
Habib Seliman ,   New York, NY USA   (11.03.10)
Perhaps, but since Israel is with in the top 10 global trading partners of the US, in terms of foreign policy and international trade issues it should not be ignored. With potential oil revenues that could put an independent Kurdistan (Inshallah) way ahead of an independent 'Palestine' , when one considers the enormous instability of the gulf region.
7. Better vision of Peace Process
Avi W ,   Edison USA   (11.03.10)
Although Israel and the Pals were the last thing that was on the mind of the American voter when they voted in a new congress, This is certainly going to be a congress that will not let Obama & Hillary push Israel into a "Peace" corner, and ler the Pals get away with all sorts of "terror" games and expect one way gestures and give nothing to get them. Its a more Judeao Christian congress that knows the bible and cant befooled by repetitive lies that the "Jews never owned this land" This should be a chance to actually have a more fair peace process that can actually work and last.
8. To No. 1
Haifa granny   (11.03.10)
You may be right, you may be wrong, but when Obama falls flat on his face, his policies -- in this case Israel-bashing and Muslim-___kissing -- go right along with him. Wait and see what the new House has in store for him. And you.
9. New Congress a "Plus" for Israel
RAYS ,   New Hampshire, USA   (11.03.10)
In general, the new Congress will be much more supportive of a strong Israel.
10. Dear Mr. Ettinger! Excellent article, agree
tanya ,   tel aviv israel   (11.03.10)
with every word, as , apparently, most of the readers do. Shame Y-net doesn"t have "like, not like" option, and readers can"t vote.

Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (11.03.10)
Oh, but you are wrong (there's a surprise). Obama's Islamist and Arabist policies -- and his concomitant bullying of Israel -- have offended a great many Americans. And if it wasn't in the top five reasons on October 31st, by November 1st -- with the mailing of bombs to Jewish institutions in Chicago -- it was certainly on the minds of a lot of voters that we really don't think much of Islam and even less of "Palestinian" violence and terror. And it has always been an issue with Evangelical Christians, whose numbers are ever increasing. You are correct in that the economy, fiscal irresponsibility, unemployment and health care reform were very much on voters' minds yesterday; but the election results spoke volumes about what Americans think of Obama's Middle Eastern policies as well.
13. All these new congressmen no Jews
Bobh   (11.03.10)
The American right loves the Jewish people but did elect one more Jewish republican to congress. And ettinger cut the nonsense about judaeo Christian values. It no more exists than Jewish Arabs or compassionate conservatives. The goddess of tea party is Ayn Rand a proponent of selfishness and an avowed self hating Jew.
14. With exceptions, generally positive tilt to Israel
Raymond in DC ,   Washington, DC USA   (11.03.10)
"J Street" Jan Schakowsky easily fended off a challenge from Republican Joel Pollack, despite the latter's endorsement by liberal Dershowitz. Likewise, Barney Frank easily beat Sean Bielat. And Hizbullah-friendly Dingell narrowly beat challenger Steele. But at least they all lost their "majority" status. But whereas many Democrats - even Jewish Democrats - tend to be rather reserved in their support for Israel, many Republicans are anything but. (Black) Republican Allen West defeated liberal Jewish Cong. Ron Klein, while (Hispanic) Republican Rubio joins the Senate - both are strong on security and strongly supportive of Israel.
15. Learning from Obama downfall
I. Barr ,   Detroit   (11.03.10)
Objective assessment of Obama saw a young controvertial black man, a brilliant speaker who had zero administrative governmental experience. He had many skeletons including a communist, polygamist, alcoholic father whome Obama admired and whose philosophies he accepted. He wrote two books about his aspirations which guid his life. He never wrote about his white mother. Most of his childhood and early adolescence he lived among Muslims in Indonesia, not usual for American children. He used Cocaine and smoked pot. He was associated with controvertial, bad characters such as Wright and Khalidi the radical Muslim. Yet 85%American Jews voted for him. Now Jews are waking up and only about 45% do so. These are die heart Democrat Jews for whom being a Democrat is more important than being a Jew. They got it with their mother's milk!!! These Democrats of Jewish religion look on the downfall of Obama they blame it on other Jews as "rejecting him because he is black"! Israeli/Jewish organizations have to dramatically improve Jewish schools, make them a priority, teach our children better, focus on history, heritage, jewish values, but also critical independent thinking. Or we will see adoption of party line as the only way that Jews in America can think.
16. Obama, you had it coming..
Roy ,   Miami   (11.03.10)
not only because of big spender attitude but also due to the Jewish vote you lost e.g. Florida etc... You scxxwed up by trying to pressure Israel. Beware of congress' wrath now. So NOW YOU CAN'T!
17. Re #6 Kurdistan
Andrew Brehm   (11.03.10)
Pray for an independent Kurdistan. The Kurdish people were always friends of the Jewish people and have faced the same terrible enemies. Abraham came from Kurdistan.
18. #3 You are 100% correct.
Brother Joe ,   Bay Parkway   (11.03.10)
And many Americans didn't appreciate Obama's arm-twisting of Israel, and trying to bring a pro-Islamic tilt to our blessed shores.
19. soil hit fan
agokoy ,   cebu   (11.03.10)
the soil has hit the fan, so you better check on your loyalties.
20. You are wrong #13:
Dan ,   USA   (11.03.10)
Eric Cantor, Republican from Virginia, is the new House Majority whip (just after Speaker of the House and the 2nd most powerful person in the Congress) and is actively Jewish. The only reasons there are not more Jews elected yesterday is that most Jews stubbornly and stupidly stick to the Democratic Party. But even that is finally changing. The Jewish Republican Coalition is strong and growing.
21. Ray of hope
RAS ,   Texas   (11.03.10)
This was an exceedingly important election. We all still face a very very difficult road ahead, regardless of where you live. Obama is more evil than most people realize. If he cannot have his way on a matter, he will do what he can to deprive his opponents of their desires, even if it means destroying other people and everything else. This is an insightful article. Netanyahu would do well to take advice and not fear the Obama Administration, but play to the support of the American people. The representatives of the people of America, for the most part, will back up Israel when Israel is doing what it must do. Obama now has a choice; he can either move more to the center and try to salvage what is left, or he can go absolutely radical and cause as much destruction as possible in his remaning time. I suspect the latter is not at all beyond him.
22. Americans are not the smartest people around...
Miriam ,   "Socialist" Canada   (11.03.10)
This is the price of the capitalist brainwash they have been given since they were born, and who gains from this brainwash? The corporations, the banks, wall street. God help the American people !!!
23. In other words...
Tamar   (11.03.10)
For many ppl in the US, if you don't have money - you're as good as dead. That's the American dream for you, paraphrased !!!
24. Remember November!! It's the time when we said NOPE to
Obama's false hope. ,   Proud Republican   (11.03.10)
25. What is lost in this whole story is how many governorships
CJ ,   Ft.Worth, TX.   (11.03.10)
were picked up. Why is that so important? While there is about a guzillion reasons, but the most important ones are the Great Lakes area(which was a demo strong hold) is now republican. These governors have the chance to govern for the next 18yrs. It's hard for a pres. of either party to when a state when the head electorate is opposite of the party they are affiliated with. Also, if the folks chose repub. governors, they more than likely chose repub. house members. Happy days are here again. People all across America have spoken where the house candidates are concerned. Why is that so important? Because ALL house members were up for re-election. In the senate it was only about 1/3. So Obama actually heard what the whole country was saying about him and his agenda, not just a select few states. In 2012, we will finish the job by voting out the remenant of lifers that are left in both the house and the senate. We will put America back on the right track. It will be done by 'WE'the people, not by 'we the career politicians'.
26. obumma confirmed two term president, arrogant & incompetent.
Bunnie Meyer ,   Los Angeles, CA USA   (11.03.10)
The vote was a massive one finger salute to the failed character who bailed out all the banks except the most important ones, the FOOD BANKS. Hungry Americans made sure to vote yesterday.
27. To: Andrew Brehm at No. 17
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (11.03.10)
I'm afraid not. Abraham came from Ur of the Chaldees, which is in southern Mesopotamia (and refers to the leading city of the Chaldeans, who have faded into antiquity). The Kurdish areas of Mesopotamia are to the north, along present-day Iraq's borders with Turkey and Iran. (Sorry .....)
28. Political earthquake in US
LJ ,   MD, USA   (11.03.10)
Thank YOU!!! Israel for you help in the USA 2010 mid-term elections. With the continued prayers to God Almighty we will both be rid of Obama. Real Americans, especially Christians, love Israel and all its peoples. May our Lord continue to watch over and protect Israel for ever. Peace to You Maranatha!
