How utterly risible . Palestinians complain that the fence does not follow the precise path of the Green Line . Well tough . If they had resisted the urge to blow themselves up in our cafes ,buses and restaurants etc,there would have been no need for a fence in the first place . For the most part the fence does approximate the 67 borders except where strategic considerations take precedence .Even then the courts often overrule the IDF and order its re routing. Palestine and its supporters never thought through the consequences of their murderous crimes against humanity . As in nature for every action there is an opposite reaction which is not necessarily proportionate . If it was ,then Palestinian shopping malls night clubs restaurants would have been bombed eye for eye tooth for tooth . Indeed, Israel should honour its agreement with Britain with respect to the rights of the population of the former Palestine as expressed in the Balfour Declaration. The apparent willingness of some Israelis to become rude and abusive at this gesture on the part of the UK Foreign Secretary towards Palestinian human beings is indicative of an overweening sense of entitlement that I find most unappealing. Israel and its people will either adapt to the changing international landscape in respect of human rights, or it will discover its allies increasingly unable to defend Israel against the real enemies of nuclear proliferation and terrorism. A bit of that much-vaunted Jewish intelligence wouldn't go amiss here.

British dithering response to Hitlers provocations in the 1930s also undermined France although to be fair she should have acted in her own interests and independently of British sentiments. Strong French military deterrence was also thrown out the window thanks to pressure from Britain and the USA. to disarm. Accepting the Nazi occupation was not unreasonable when all the factors are considered. 20 years earlier the bloodiest war in history had been played out on French soil.

First, to which French borderline do You refer to ? I have no idea, since France got back its territory, it had lost in the war of 1871...?? Second, in the Munich accords of 1938, both Britain and France BOWED to Hitler and paved the way for him to start the war at the terms of his own choosing. Third, the Russians by comparison NEVER EVER bowed to the Nazis, although they had had to suffer a LOT more than the French at the same time. The ideas I've tried to describe are based on Churchill's book ''The Second World War'' volume 1 ..The border I referred to was not a national border- it was a defensible border along a major river. The Americans objected to the French demand because it would have made a lot of German citizens into French citizens. Churchill however points out that it would also have given France the ability to defend itself ifrom any future German aggression. The Russians never bowed to the Nazis because the Nazis intended to colonise their land east of the Urals and liquidate a lot of them.

I never portrayed Britain as a friend of the Jews. The Jews were not the major players in the history of WW2 and you have not said anything I dont already know about Britain's lack of enthusiasm for a Jewish state in Palestine. I was addressing my comments about freedom to Chris in Germany who I supposed to be a German and not a Jew. My comments were inspired by irritation at the insulting tone of his comments. by the way Germany was able to attack France thanks to its non-aggression pact with Stalin not to mention supplies of raw materials from the Russians However I dont blame the Russians for making terms with Hitler in 1939 because she had tried unsuccessfully to make an alliance with Britain and France in the 30s and simply ended up doing what was best for her own security after being rebuffed by the west

I, too, am ashamed to be British. I say this having served the Crown and Government for over 20 years. Hague is following in the well worn footsteps of his predecessors who condescend to treat the Jewish state as if the Mandate is still in force. The appeasement of the Islamic/Arab world and the serving of Britain's own self interests have always been paramount and remain so. In November 1938 the 'Cabinet Committee For Palestine' held a meeting which effectively resulted in the reneging upon of the Balfour Declaration and the League of Nations Mandate. Foreign Secretary, Lord Halifax, told the Committee that “the Government would have to choose between it's commitments to the world of Jewry and it's commitments to the world of Islam...” It was subsequently decided that Britain could not afford to antagonise the Muslim world. This resulted in the British White Paper of 1939 which served to appease the Arab/Islamic world and severely restricted Jewish immigration to Palestine. This was the British policy as the Holocaust descended upon the Jews of Europe.

The security barrier is indeed in defence of human rights - Jewish human rights - and for this purpose the barrier was constructed. Without Palestinian terrorism there would be no need for a barrier. Indeed it has saved countless innocent Jewish lives and when Palestinian terrorism disappears the barrier can be removed. Those murdered Jews whose loss of life gave rise to its necessity can never be replaced. The Foreign Secretary sidestepped the reality... again. The British foreign office has never been reluctant to sacrifice Jews or their state on the altar of political expedience.

As to the Mandate, Jordan itself is a British colonial creation, carved out of the British Mandate for Palestine as a consolation prize for a one-time British ally - the Hashemites - that lost its hold on the Hijaz to the al' Saud tribe. 77% of the Mandate territory given by Britain to form yet another Arab state to serve its own interests. After the War of Independence, Jordan illegally annexed Judea and Samaria, renaming it the West Bank to disguise/remove its Jewish heritage. Even that annexation/renaming was eagerly recognized by the UK ... and one other country - Pakistan. Strange how such an annexation and illegal occupation was expedient and acceptable to the British. No mention of the Palestinians then. That only came after the Jordanians invaded Israel and lost the territory and Jerusalem. Then the British screamed blue murder.... at the Jews.

British Ministers who condescend to visit the Jewish State, act as if Israelis are still under British colonial rule. The British Government needs reminding that it’s Mandate in the region expired over five decades ago. Then British Foreign Secretary Robin Cook caused an uproar in Israel and further strained Israeli-British relationships during 1998 when he refused to visit Yad Vashem. He also publicly stated in February 1998, that following elections "It was unacceptable that the Israeli Government should give in to domestic demands which contradicted the expectations of the international community." This statement implies that the wishes of the ordinary Israeli people are of no importance or concern and that Israel should unreservedly accept the will of the pro-Arab international community. Yet since the election of Hamas officials have demanded that the demands of the terrorist group be recognised as, being elected, they represented the Palestinian people. Amazing. Israel's populace must be ignored if their wishes are not expedient. Yet those of Hamas and it's minions must be respected under the same conditions..... It's not for nothing that the British government has got this country into such a mess.
