So who are they fooling here by initiating another US "peace effort" and complaining about Israel at the same time ? Settlements are not an issue. Israel demonstrated that if it needs to remove it's own citizens from certain Jewish communities it is willing to do so for the sake of peace as was demonstrated in the Gaza pullout. The Arabs reciprocated with 8000 missiles fired on Israeli citizens after the pullout which eventually caused the Cast Lead skirmish and the current blockade. Abbas has to negotiate now regardless of the situation "because the time will come and we will have nothing to negotiate for." This man is just splitting hairs, when will the Palestinians have a real leader. Also he's not going to resign because he can still steal a lot of aid money from his own people.

Who cares? Eat your heart out. Jerusalem is eternal and undivided and JEWISH.

A peace deal would be too costly for Israel, while they believe that they can win any war and gain more. Simply put, until Arabs/Muslims are a real threat to defeat Israel, only US pressure can bring peace but not without a major fight both in Israel and US. In US very few really care except for Jewish people/groups but they do care about the troops in ME and high cost, they just have not linked it with ME peace deal in public opionion yet. If Obama can link the two issues with the US public then that could shift the issue in favor of peace deal in US.

When will the world realize that they have to stop catering to all the Palestinian demands? Nothing has been accomplished, and it only makes the Palestinians feel stronger. If they truly want a state, let them conform to proper international, peaceful ways. Not demands. Additionally, cities and countries expropriate property when it is in their interest. Israel is no different. Don't fall for the Palestinian propoganda, using the term 'settlements'. Expropriation is legal.

Abbas reminds me of a child who has a tantrum because he can't get what he wants when he wants it and then blames everyone else. Netanyahu had the temporary settlement freeze in place for 10 months wherein face to face talks could have been underway and perhaps completed. During that time every attempt to bring the Palestinians to the negotiating table was refused. Those familiar with the machinations of the Arab League will know that Mahmoud Abbas only agreed to come to the table near the end of the 10 month freeze so that he could use the end of such as an excuse to walk away and blame Israel if he couldn't get all that he wanted, when he wanted it. This is what has happened. What CNN and its minions sidestep is that the creation of a Palestinian state is predicated upon the entire ethnic cleansing of the Jewish population from territories (Judea and Samaria) where Jews have an uninterrupted 3,000 year heritage. CNN chokes on such terms as ethnic cleansing when it comes to the Jews being the victims but don't hesitate to use it to describe the Arabs leaving at the request of their brethren in 1948 to eradicate the reborn state of Israel.

It's amazing how Abbas considers that the territory suddenly became 'Palestinian land' in 1967 when, after 19 years of Jordanian occupation (during which no attempt was made to create a Palestinian state), Jordan's military invasion of Israel from the territory resulted in Israel recovering both it and Jerusalem. It wasn't Palestinian land in 1948 or during the 19 year Jordanian occupation till 1967. It certainly didn't become Palestinian land one day after the Jordanian defeat or at anytime since. It's blatant Arab propaganda to delegitimise Israel's own claim and presence in the land. During the recent 'direct talks', the PA Ambassador to Lebanon declared in the Palestinian media that the talks were not directed at peace but at such delegitimisation of Israel in the eyes of the international community. A few weeks prior to that Abbas himself had told the Arab League that he favoured a pan-Arab war with Israel. During that time the settlement freeze was still in force and Abbas could have gone to the negotiating table. Instead he was talking of war. The delusion has many victims and here the willing victim.... again .... is CNN and other elements of the media.
