1. Finally, a sane, reasoned assessment of the facts
Brian Cohen ,   Judean Peoples Front   (11.08.10)
Carumba! I hope this guy is called in for a meeting with the U.S. ambassador (forget about Bibi for now). I've been saying for a long time that there is no chance of peace with the Palestinians while they are a two-headed monster. Who runs "Palestine"? Fatah or Hamas? If a peace treaty was ready tomorrow, Abbas wouldn't sign it because he can't sign a deal for only the west bank. Hamas controls Gaza and their policy is clear - no peace with Israel, no peace treaty negotiations. Hamas only speaks about ceasefires, and even then the Arabic word doesn't really translate as "ceasefire", because Hamas policy is armed conflict. Elad is right on - the Americans, Israelis and Palestinians are playing a peace talks charade, but none of the are calling it that. Hooray for Elad for putting it into a headline.
2. obama's failure?
ed ,   reno, america   (11.08.10)
there seems to be a misconception when it comes to obama's dealings in the middle east. he knows exactly what he is doing and knows that as long as the palestinians are splintered that there is no chance of real peace. he also knows that if Israel compromises they lose. people speak as though he is just making mistakes in judgment of the situation. they are wrong he knows exactly what he is doing and none of it is beneficial to Israel. this man hides behind many pretty words but he was and still is anti Israel.
3. Failure is the very definition of Obama's presidency.
Terry ,   Eilat - Israel   (11.08.10)
The only thing he succeeded at was fooling the American public & getting elected. It's been all down-hill since. Americans fell for a con man, aided & abetted by a Left-wing media that promoted him like a new brand of corn flakes. The fact that the ingrediants of the corn flakes were unknown, had no nutritional value, were loaded with sugar & salt, & was seriously over-priced was totally ignored by a biased & unprofessional media. There are many ways to describe Mr Obama but one is appropriate to this article. Mr Obama is intellectually very shallow - his intellectual development is limited to every possible left-wing slogan & platitude that he heard in college. This obviously includes his views on the Middle-East. Of course, 20 years sitting in Rev. Wright's racist anti-American anti-Semitic church & his associations with such luminaries as Ayres, Farakhan, & Rachid Khalidi didn't help.
4. By the way, Mr Eldad ......
Terry ,   Eilat - Israel   (11.08.10)
If we pay the price, it will be OUR fault. Don't try & foist the blame onto Obama. The responsibility is right here, in Jerusalem.
5. The sad thing is ...
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (11.08.10)
... that Obama is heading inexorably down a path that will cause a "flare-up." For a man who wishes to go down in history as the person who resolved the conflict between Israel and the "Palestinians," he does not realize that the next "flare-up" will be the death knell of all "Palestinian" hopes and aspirations. To that extent, I thank him for his efforts to put an end to "Palestinian" terror and violence. The next "flare-up" will be the "Palestinians'" last. Israel has finally run out of patience.
6. the Palestinian public is eager for Real Peace Mr.Elad !
Salma ,   Palestine   (11.08.10)
The name of the game in the "territories" is Yearning for freedom & independence, PA has NO genuine partner for peace on the "Israeli" side....Unfortunately, PLO has made fictional concessions to the "Israeli " side , In turn of nonsense that so-called Palestinian Authority....you can fool some of the people all of the time and all of the people some of the time but you can't fool all of the people all of the time . True Palestinians with any leadership demand their rights regardless of the ideology it represents, Our experience with Hamas is so bitter, so with PA , but we can't give up. ....and we can't lose hope, we know that big challenges are ahead of us , we have no doubt that a bright future awaits us. Mr.Elad , You forgot to tell President Obama who provides Hamas with oxygen, whenever they need it ?!! ya better be sure that it's true when you say "Israel will be paying the price".
7. Not a failure
Israel Israeli ,   Tel Aviv   (11.08.10)
Elad believes that Obama wants peace between Israel and the Arabs. Elad doesn't pay attention to what Obama says. Obama believes that Israel and the Jews are the source of all the worlds problems. He is not interested in peace between Israel and the Arabs, but in establishing a viable Arab state between the Jordan River and the Mediterranean that will absorb all Arab Muslims that Arab world wants to call "Palestinian". Obama is not stupid. He knows that the only way to achieve his goal is be eliminating Israel. As a disciple of Reverend Wright, eliminating Israel isn't a problem.
8. Y net! Please stop posting pro peace-against peace
tanya ,   tel aviv israel   (11.08.10)
articles. We have Real problems to solve!
9. To: No. 6
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (11.08.10)
For someone who purports to want peace, Salma, you sure do spend a lot of time on your posts which advocate violence and terror. So, which is it? Or -- like all "Palestinians" -- do you only accept a definition of "peace" that accommodates all of your requirements for "peace," but none of Israel's? Have you forgotten that the "Palestinians" have rejected no fewer than three opportunities for a two-state solution (including, in 2000, one which would have awarded the "Palestinians" 90% of the West Bank and East Jerusalem as a capital) and have you also forgotten that the "Palestinians" rejectied that extraordinarily generous offer in favor of starting the second intifada? Have you forgotten that there have been six wars, all started by the Arabs and won by Israel? Have you forgotten the nearly seventy years of terror visited upon Israel and Jews throughout the world by the "Palestinians?" I assure you that Israel hasn't forgotten any of the foregoing. The "Palestinians" are a vanquished people. You get whatever crumbs Israel may very generously choose to toss your way .... or you get nothing. Nothing is what you have gotten for nearly seventy years, Salma. When will the "Palestinians" finally accept reality? When will the "Palestinians" finally realized that all their violence and terror have served only to make them a fractious and contentious lot, with no clear leadership? Are you better off now than you were before the "Palestine" Authority took over? All those extremely lucrative jobs in Israel have melted away, haven't they, Salma? And what has the "Palestine" Authority done to address the rising unemployment? Have they attracted foreign investment capital? Have they maintained the infrastructure? Why have so many medical clinics closed? Why have so many universities -- all built by Israel since 1967 -- closed? The "Palestinian" leadership, on the other hand, has grown more corrupt than ever. The same problem exists in Gaza. You are such a fraud, Salma. A deluded one. You seek to place blame on everything and everybody -- except the "Palestinians." Grow up. By the way -- Israel isn't going to pay any price. The "Palestinians" get 100% of that burden. We're really pretty sick of you. You better be sure you have a REALLY good understanding that you are out of time and Israel is out of patience.
10. Israels faults are many
Mark ,   KS Israel   (11.08.10)
Israels faults are many, Obama has only 2.. Everything he'll say and everything he'll do!! The man never had a snowball's hope in hell of being a succesful President. Firstly he inherited a bankrupt USA, for who there is no Chapter 11. Secondly, he made Israel / Palestine his priority from day one - an arena where greater men than him have failed Thirdly, he ignored the reality of the USA internal issues, and it is his management thereof that will create his legacy Fourthly, he is pro-arab and muslim (couch it behind any kind of speeches as he will), and the world does not want to hear that Finally, he is an inexperienced politician, albeit a phenominal orator, but the words have become tiresome and his actions are now short on delivery.. And none of the above is his fault. The bleeding hearted quasi liberal americans wanted a black president, felt it was "time", and he just happened to put his hand up. Once again, the "wanting to be adored" USA voted with it's heart and not it's head, and the price they are now paying is extreme - a bottomless pit from which they will not recover in decades! God bless America, but unfortunately not even that can help.
11. Just to thank Sarah B. #9
Observer 1 ,   Chrangbegbo   (11.08.10)
Hey, guys at the YnetNews. I do hope that my talkback will find clemency and be published. Forgotten me already? You usually block my talkbacks and I sincerely hope you do read them before deleting them away with a click of your mouse. Anyway, this is just to thank Sarah B. for her in-depth, frontal and wise approach to delicate and endless Pally stupidity. Keep it up, sista. May The Lord bless you.
12. The way to test the Arabs' intention is to demand...
Jehudah Ben-Israel ,   Qatzrin, Israel   (11.08.10)
...a declarative statement from them, accepting Israel's legitimacy, its right to be, to exist as the nation-state of the Jewish people. So long as the Arabs refuse, categorically, to accept Israel's right; so long as they refuse a peace treaty as the end of the conflict and the end of all demands of Israel the indication is clear: they what to pocket a deal and continue to attack Israel - militarily, diplomatically, legally and demographically - in the long process of reaching their real goal of eliminating Israel, by stages if full scale war is not possible. Sadly, Obama does not demand of the Arabs that which is obvious; indeed, he himself refuse to call for a "two-states for two-peoples" solution...!!
13. To: Observer 1 at No. 11
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (11.08.10)
Many thanks to you for your kind words. I have visited Ghana -- although in Accra only -- but I do admire your lovely country. May The Lord bless you as well.
14. 0. 's latst failure
Ezra ,   Florida   (11.08.10)
He never did understand anything about the ME and he never will. Worse than that: He DOES NOT WANT TO UNDERSTAND anything. He is ignorant when it comes to the ME subject ( as he is in many others ) and thinks he knows everything..
15. A rarity....
Shalom ,   U.S.A.   (11.08.10)
Finally a reasonable article in this paper. Just one correction: they, the american Left , do know that the PA has no peaceful intentions or even secure an agreement with Israel, their goal is undermine Israel's security and ultimately destroy it.
16. Wake up call
Gee ,   Zikron Yaakov   (11.08.10)
ed #2 in Reno nailed it. As much as I dislike Odumba and his policies he is not stupid, nor is he ignorant about the Mid East. He is very intelligent and he has a lot of information on the entire Mid East and his actions are deliberate. He is out to weaken us to the point of no defense left. We are at fault for not recognizing it and reacting in OUR best interests instead of Odumba's agenda.
17. All American president maintain the facade
Claudia ,   Tampa USA   (11.08.10)
that Palestinians can come to an agreement with Israel. Obviously that is not going to happen no matter how much Israel wants peace. It is not going to happen until their neighbors run out of oil & then the playing field will level. As well, The next 100 years will not be peaceful with Islam dominating the middle east. So Israel, resist! You have a huge majority of Americans supporting you and we are not going to collapse despite all the crepe hangers. We can and will outlast the Muslims and the Euroarabia's shrill calls to compromise. Keep building in the West Bank, but please keep Christians sites open to Christians...like Bethlehem and Nazareth. They are being overrun by Muslims.
18. Clarification on entry #6
Salma, Palestine   (11.08.10)
I would like to clarify my comments in #6 above regarding what I said that Palestinians have made "fictional concessions.” Since the time that Muhammad made an agreement with the jews (who refused to accept Islam) after the Battle of Khaybar in the year 629, Muslims have consistently refused to keep agreements with non-Muslims. In the name of Jihad and the spread of Islam, we broke that first agreement and killed those jews who still refused to accept Islam and exiled the rest from Medina and the entire Arabian Peninsula. What many jews who are interested in making peace with us and especially other non-Muslims do not know, we Muslims are not obliged to keep agreements with them based on Islam. It can be Arafat, Abas, Begin, Rabin, Peres, Barak, Olmart, Bibi, Carter, Clinton, Bush, Obama or any other person who ‘talks’ about peace with us, but Muslims (especially those who know the history of Islam and what Muhammad did after 629 and to the present day) will never keep agreements with non-Muslims! Also our interpretation of the word 'peace' is different from the non-Muslim interpretation of this word. Peace for us is when non-Muslims accept Islam! We would actually prefer to take out (one way or another) all jews and other non-Muslims from predominantly Muslim areas. Have fun talking!
19. 100% correct assessment
nadav ,   tlv   (11.08.10)
but we can't expect much from a President with ZERO experience in these matters, who is surrounded by extreme radical leftist advisors who are bred with Comintern rhetoric and sloganism!
20. Dekusional writer.
Dave   (11.08.10)
Even IDF says PA security forces are doing great job and capable of maintaining law and order in the WB. is the "Western Galilee Academic College" located in some cave on the Galilee mountains?
21. Very Good Moshe! But does Bibi know this too?
BJL ,   usa   (11.08.10)
Bibi fell for the "freeze" trick. Now that is part of the arab narrative. It never was before. Hopefully Bibi will learn from his Tanakh scolar Son, the land of Israel belongs to HaShem and he gave it to Israel not Ishmael. The arabs are not fooling us with their two phased plan of pushing the Jews into the sea. Lets hope they dont fool Bibi. Kadima is already calling for more "gestures"....G-d forbid...
22. #18 loooooooool : )
Salma ( the real) ,   Palestine   (11.08.10)
sooo funny !
23. No. 18 is a fake....
(11.08.10)
as if we couldn't tell.......
24. Obamas problem is he is a muslims stooge
zionist forever   (11.08.10)
Chances of the talks Obama wants will lead to peace are very low anyway but the current stale mate with Abbas demanding a settlement freeze of he goes direct to the UN could be solved if Obama acted more like a president and not an arab puppet. If Abbas tried playing hardball like this whilst Bush or Clinton had been president he would have been told we support the idea of a palestinian state but I am not going to accept any messing around and you will now drop the pre condition nonsense and talk with Bibi. Abbas would have replied yes Mr President. With Obama its Abbas who dictates terms to him. Bibi offered a 10 month freeze as a goodwill gesture to get Abbas to agree to talk. For 9 months Abbas refuses to talk saying I want more in advance if you want me to talk. Obama went running back to Bibi and says Abbas wants more so give him more so he will agree to talk. Finally 1 month before the end of the freeze Obama seeing the midterms around the corner and his legacy slipping away drags Abbas tot talks kicking and screaming looking for any way out that will pin the blame on Bibi. The freeze ends and Abbs demands it continues. First he threatens to resign as president if the freeze is not continued, he later backtracks on that idea and decides to start threatening to go to the UN and declare statehood unilaterally... something which scares the hell out of Obama because if Abbas does that he will be forced to choose between jewish voters who want a negotiated rather than an imposed solution or he risks upsetting his new muslim friends and the Saudis who donated generously to his election campaign. If the man was interested in a real solution he would stop being an arab stooge and tell Abbas you want my help you will sit down and you will talk with Bibi no pre conditions. If you want pre conditions don't ask me for help and if you go to the UN I can't promise not to use my veto. Obama has got very good at hurting Israel but he doesn't know how to say no to the spoilt child Abbas.
25. #18 obviously a fake
Jrodstein ,   Basalt, Colorado   (11.08.10)
it make sense and told the truth
26. GMAB
Jay   (11.08.10)
Come on, give me a break
27. #24 zionist forever
Albrecht Klein ,   Germany   (11.09.10)
The "Palestinians" define themselves through their quest to destroy the state of Israel. What should they do if there were a true peace agreement? Perhaps start working for their living? Come on.
28. Israel Doesn't Want Peace
Edwin ,   TEXAS, USA   (11.09.10)
The sad part about all this, is that Israel is not a friend of the US, doesn't want peace, and does everything possible to play the pity us card. Israel is the enemy of the US, has been playing that reality for a long time now, until Israel wants to join in real peace, the US should treat Israel as the axis of evil.
29. #28 america doesn't want peace.
(11.09.10)
fighting wars all over the world, like some of your drunken cowboys in texas.
30. Islam rejects peace.
sk ,   USA   (11.09.10)
I admit I am getting impatient with "scholars" who cannot simply tell the truth. Islam is a religion of war. So long as Muslims have the resources to wage war, they will do so. That is why, when they nationalized oil companies and seized the unearned profits decades ago, we saw the growth of terrorism. It's as simple as that.
