I'm as anti-Hareidi as most, but I sure hope no one uses this issue to bash them as racists. The fact is that 1,000s of African come to Israel each month, and something HAS to be done. This is a problem for the U.N., not us. We are too small a country to absorb this kind of demo-changing population. They are here illegally, and if we show them the mercy we would naturally show to them as individuals, we're hurting ourselves irreparably. The UN needs to find these real refugees homes - away from Israel.

The solution to the problem lies in asking the United Nations, the UNHCR to look after these people. They can put them in refugee camps and then find them new homes elsewhere. That simple!

If you have read my prior talkbacks, you will know that I am not a racist, and sympathize with anyone in trouble. That prefaced: This is NOT a racial issue. The residents are being made afraid because of harrassment from the refugees. The locals are distraught because the refugees violate Shabbat. This is a response not to appearance but to actions. My immediate concern is what TB #13 asked: are they dangerous? If the locals are right to be afraid of them, then the authorities MUST act to remove the danger from their streets. But my other concern will probably have me branded as a some sort of religious ethnocentrist: what do they believe? Are they Islamists, infiltrating the country trying to destroy it from within - swamping Israel with Islamists because Israel won't agree to the suicidal "right of return" for "Palestinian" Arabs? Israel must act to preserve her own existance. It doesn't matter what the UN or a small dog thinks of Israel - surviving as a people is more important than other considerations. Of course I will add here that if they are willing to support and defend Israel as a Jewish, democratic state, then they should be welcomed. If they are willing to support us and work with us to defend us from the enemies who surround us, then they should also be educated, taught the laws of their adopted land, as well as our customs. They are no longer in a Third-World setting, they should learn to function as part of a civilized society. That is the case regardless of their color or race or whatever.

If Jews wish to preserve the culture, values, religion and character of Israel, then don't try to prevent Christian European ethnic people from doing the same in their societies and countries. Viewing the suggestions and decrees of the Rabies, within an historical context is a rather painful experience. For people, whose ancestors were not allowed in certain neighborhoods, clubs, restaurants, etc. because they were Jews, to behave in the same narrow minded, racist manner and inconsiderate attitudes against others because of the color of their skin and the religion(s) they practice, is, at best, shameful, if not totally obnoxious.
