Shalom Hartman   (11.24.10)
Every person wants to look good, however he/she understands good to mean. Hareidi women who can afford to do so often spend a lot of money on facials, waxing, hair removal, etc. I've even heard of women who really can't afford it, but are prepared to do without basic items in order to have a basic treatment done by a cosmetician. This is all normal and good. It proves that hareidim are normal. We have a G-d given right to show a pleasant appearance to the world, and if using night cream, day cream, eye cream and cosmetics are going to make a woman feel better about herself then great! If she is self-conscious of her nose and changing it will give her more self-confidence, then great! On the other hand, if she has psychological problems and is just looking for a bandaid - nothing will help.
4. Vanity of Vanities!
(11.24.10)
this is really amazing! When Torah giants (Rav Waldenberg and Rav Feinstein) have said "no"; people are going and asking again and finding a way to have these surgeries. They are nothing but beauty enhancement and therefore vanity! and Ora I am very surprised by your gentle response especially after reading your "mega-critical" response regarding Lucy Werber decision to have her ashes spread over the death camp. I was actually expecting you to strongly come out against this...I guess your values are just as hypocritical as everyone elses! When it suits you, you do it and then you criticize others for not being stringent enough according to your standards! For shame!
5. physical needs vs. spiritual needs....
Sally Forth ,   Jerusalem of course!   (11.24.10)
"A person who exessively keeps his/her thoughts on his physical needs will overlook his/her spiritual needs" (from Gateway to Happiness by Zelig Pliskin) Seems to me that plastic surgery is one of those superficial physical needs which puts a serious damper on taking care of our truly important spiritual needs!
6. 4 I reiterate my excuses about Lucy
ORA ,   Jerusalem   (11.24.10)
as you did not notice them.I am very against harsh critics. They are always counterproductive.
7. s... dont believe all news and look at who's the info coming

Ultraorthodox? lets see what they mean by that And maybe just maybe someone fell and or was burn and needs of this kind of surgery - its not only aesthetics my vanity friend

now on Sabbath evening, the husband will chant to his wife the song of woman of disgrace; instead of woman of valor.
9. plastic surgery

cigarettes alter the body more than plastic surgery. The way the Haridi suck them down they are altering G-d's creation x 10.

..i cant get a tatoo? I dont get it. Good ole orthos always using religion to justify what they do or dont do.
11. Hypocrisy
blash ,   Jerusalem   (11.24.10)
If you need to get a nose job or a breast enhancement to get married, you're fishing in the wrong sea (to reference "plenty of fish in the sea"). Marriages that are based in the physical fail. It's that simple. After a month the magic wears off and you look for another beautiful person to have an affair with. That's why the secular sectors have 50% divorce rates. The whole point about Orthodox relationship philosophy is that the physical doesn't matter. The whole point about waiting for marriage to have relations is because relations for the sensation is empty while relations for love is how we experience God. If the girl is truly ugly and is trying to find someone, that is one thing, because the sad fact of the matter is that we look at the outer layer before the inner. But if you are already engaged the rabbi should be saying NO.

14. #13 you have got a mighty chip on your shoulder!
Peppermint Paddy ,   Jerusalem   (11.26.10)
Charles was just asking a question. Really no need for you to be all scrappy! Particularly when this article has nothing to do with child care and everything to do with passing beauty!

18. 17 SLAVES
ORA ,   Jerusalem   (11.27.10)
They are the worst kind of slaves.they do not want to be freed
19. 18 , Ora , voluntary slaves = women of valor ??
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (11.28.10)
20. 19 Charles
ORA ,   Jerusalem   (11.28.10)
I was joking. They are no way slaves. They are the queen of their family. They are the best and strongest women that exist in the world. They are working hard for their ideal for their husband and children, and have a lot of satisfaction out of that.Of course they are women of valor,as well as secular mothers who lost their husband.I have a lot of admiration for these women. They are wonderful.
21. Ora , poor slaves who have to work
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (11.28.10)
to feed their children and their husbands . They were "educated" and brainwashed in this way , it's not an ideal . I pity them . To lose a husband is something very different , it's not a "choice" . Can't you see this difference ? Those widows were not "educated" to become so .
22. 21 Charles
ORA ,   Jerusalem   (11.28.10)
I see very well the difference. And i still think, that devoted mothers with or without choice , are great. In the secular society woman also work.Very often they come home extenuated, and they need to care for the children. It is not easy for them either. Most of them do not really rest on Shabat, because they are doing the cleaning and all kind of homework. If they are LUCKY the men help. Others spend hours in their cars ,and are sleepy sunday mornings in the office. The Haredi women get new strength on Shabat. They have a complete rest. The children dress the table, serve the delicious food, and the mother is served like a queen. The husband sings every friday eve:Eshet Hajil(praise song to his wife,)looking at her with love. So you see ,Charles, orthodoxe women are happy women.

24. Mis-citation of Rav Feinstein
Yitzhak ,   New York, USA   (12.05.10)
Rav Moshe Feinstein's position is actually the opposite of the one attributed to him in the article: http://bdld.info/2010/11/30/improving-gods-handiwork-with-scalpel-and-ether/
