1. MK Gafne: Where is your head? Most
Robert Haymond ,   Israel/Canada   (11.10.10)
of us who read Ynet are rightwing conservatives who support Likud, Yisrael Beiteinu and the National Religious. All believe in defending Israel, being proud and joining and supporting the IDF and, yes, working for a living. So in this case, Mr. Gafne, we rightists join the left in our disgust for the Charedim who insist on special privileges. In eastern Europe, the Charedim worked, usually as tradesmen, semi-skilled workers, laborers, "Luftmensch". Even the rabbis worked and then led their congregations, gave counsel. See the book "Life is with People" for a perspective on our history. Even today, the Charedim of Toronto, Antwerp and Brooklyn and New York (with the exception of one miserable group outside NYC) all work and contribute to the general community. Only in Israel do you require special privileges from the state. What you have managed to achieve, however, is to bring the left and the right together.
2. uproar over Yeshiva funding
roxie ,   Israel   (11.10.10)
The secular public is finally waking up to the fact that everyone needs to work in this country to survive. Why should our hard earned money that we struggle to make, and we scrimp and save for our families to be able to make it through the month be given to those that refuse to work to support their families, refuse to join the IDF to defend our country. Instead all they want is to freeload off the rest of us. All over the world the Ultra Orthodox work to support their families,in places like NY,London,Paris you see them working full time and studying Torah at night,so if they can do that all over the world they can certainly do that here!
3. Unaware
A Jerusalemite ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (11.10.10)
The man seems to be totally unaware that secular, traditional, and other students have exactly the same rights as Yeshiva students - and perhaps more since they also served in the IDF!
4. No milk for breakfast
Avi ,   Israel   (11.10.10)
May be if that childs father got off his lazzy back side and took responsibility and got a job to provide for his family, its called life ! If you cant afford to bring 10 kids in to this world then dont expect others to fund this so called life style of yours.
5. MK Gafni and the Haredi Public
h.s.cohen ,   New York City U.S.A.   (11.10.10)
This is the reality check that's coming your way- NO WORK-NO FOOD!
6. Media
Albi ,   Ashkelon   (11.10.10)
Yes, he is right. The media is responsible for the uproar. Thank G-d for the media!
7. stipends
colin   (11.10.10)
Now the haridi all feeling the blowback. Let the children without milk drink water until thier farthers-The parasites of Israel go and earn a days living. He produced the child ,let him now feed the child. No pity for the haridim Get these lazy good for nothing rubbish clean the streets.
8. Work
Tom ,   New York , USA   (11.10.10)
In the US you have Hareidim who study after working , after all not everyone can be a Rabbi. Hareidim in the US sell diamonds, computers etc , while they don't finish high school they do know enough to function in society . Look at Modern Orthodox be they Syrian , Bucharian or Ashkenazic they get a secular education , it's not uncommon to see lawyers , doctors , accountants being ordained Rabbis.
9. Leadership.
Philip ,   Afula, Israel   (11.10.10)
MK Gafne, you are supposed to be a leader of people and in this role give your people TRUTH, DIRECTION and HOPE.You do not supply any of these.
10. If the child does not have milk...
Sebastian ,   Jerusalem   (11.10.10)
If the child does not have milk it is responsibility of the fathers that don't work for that milk.
11. Robert #1
R ,   Israel   (11.10.10)
Your comments are usually spot on and this one is too. Thanks!
12. The funding
MR ,   Beit Shemesh, Israel   (11.10.10)
I have no problem with the funding as long as it is predicted on attending job training courses or completing the bagruyot, and then finding a job within 6 months after the courses end. And, while they are at it, why not also require the wives to attend vocational training.
13. Great Article!
Yakov ,   Tel Aviv   (11.10.10)
Finally, truth be told! The Haredim don't want to work. They are convinced that it is the secular populations responsibility to place "milk" in their mouths. More astounding, is the declaration that if the child goes without, it is the secular populations fault. I am troubled not just by the arrogance and audacity of these comments, but the reality that people actually believe this trash. Time for a reality check, and here it is: Haredim are in no way entitled to anything different from the secular population, praying to God for the seculars to give you a free ride will no longer work, "milk" doesn't come from heaven and it will not arrive just because you pray. Lastly, and most significant: time has arrived where you and your kind will need to live, work and contribute, just like every other Israeli. Mr. Gafne's arrogant comments provide only the strongest reasons as to why. Thank you Mr. Gafne for proving exactly what we seculars have been saying, Your time for a free ride has ended!
14. Ponting in the wrong direction
Norman Gellman ,   Rehovot   (11.10.10)
MK Gafne you forgrt that pointing your finger at someone else you are pointing 3 fingers at your self. It is high time that the Haridim enter the work force like in the rest of the Haridi world. There is too much drain on our economy to support a large number of "nuch shlippers". This is a very cynical use of political power.
15. Gafne the village idiot.
Dan ,   Tel-Aviv, Israel   (11.10.10)
No work, no milk, simple as that.We can no longer ,and ,wish no longer to deprive our children and grandchildren of the tax money thrown down the drain on useless and trivial people like you . Get a life ,and work to support ypourselves as all others must.Enough already with your shameless sponging.
16. Those 10.000 students = more than 50,000 draining the system
Eric ,   Tel Aviv & NY   (11.10.10)
Since the religious education is reported to not include math i will do it here. Those 10.000 students = more than 50,000 draining the system with more coming every year. Even supposing that the 10,00 students should be allowed not to work, this bill requires that they and their wives do not work witch only expands the cycle of poverty. Time to get at least one member of the family contributing financially.
17. Only rights for charidim ?
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (11.10.10)
Why should secular students not receive the same advantages ? In my relations there are four religious doctors . One also very othodox . They all studied medecine , but they were not paid to study . And they know religion too . And their children had milk at breakfeast .
18. Robert , right
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (11.10.10)
I had Belzer Chassidim as colleagues , and i knew many others who were working , some of them making nice money . Their , also many , children had milk every morning . Daddy was working for it .
19. Sponsoring Tora students
ORA ,   Jerusalem   (11.10.10)
Asking people, who have no clue what diamonds are,to sponsor a diamond mine exploitation,is total nonsense.Only people who understand the value of it, will be eager to do so.There are enough people in the world who know the value of Tora students, and who are happy to sponsor the very serious Talmidei Chahamim. The latter won t lose anything, with the government latest decision. Those who will lose, will be the secular. They will not pay one cent less taxe. And this money that should have gone to Tora study, will go to the most unvaluable investments.Ask Leviev and other big businessmen,if they regret the big money they gave to Yeshivot. These men are no idiots, they know what they do. Have you never noticed, that some very clever and capable man, nothing they do succeed, and other without brains, everything they do is a succes? The first have no beraha, the second have.Helping Tora students gives beraha to everything you do.Don t wait the big rush, sponsor them now!!!!!!!!!!
20. PS to 19
ORA ,   Jerusalem   (11.11.10)
