1. How tragic for two sons from one family to die so young.
Rivkah   (11.11.10)
I wonder if they are descended from Jeconiah in Scriptures who was cursed to never have a male descendant who lived to old age. It is so tragic when the pilots die. Not only the family mourns but also the miltiary family and it hits them hard, even those who did not personally know the pilots. At a Navy Air Station in California I worked at, the hospital corpsmen and women who were tasked to find the body parts of downed pilots and collect them wept uncontrollably when their task was done, managing to keep it together until they were off duty. There were a lot of downed pilots back then and it never got any easier to find as many pieces of the pilots for the widow as they could find. It is not for the faint hearted.

Salma Do you have to turn news of a tragedy into a chance to do a little Israel bashing. I didn't think even you would do that. i would request that rather than condemn these people for being overconfident that you instead you pray that they be found alive.

12. 'Ramon crater'?
Ben Alofs ,   Bangor, UK   (11.11.10)
This is an aside about place names. Israeli guide books will tell you that the name "is derived from the Hebrew adjective 'ram' meaning 'elevated'". What they fail to mention is that the original name is actually the Arabic 'Wadi Rummaan' ('rummaan' means 'pomegranate', hence Valley of the Pomegranate). Rather than sticking to the geographical features Zionist naming committees modified the name so that it would fit Hebrew phonology. Meron Benvenisti in his 'Sacred Landscape' writes about the renaming of place names by the Zionist naming committees. Since only a small number of place names could conceivably be linked to anything mentioned in the Bible, the renaming often became a forced exercise in making arbitrary connections, sometimes picking words at random from the Bible or translating to Hebrew the indigenous Arabic names and pretending they were Hebrew.

have you read in the above article?: "it appears that human error was the cause of the accident, perhaps loss of orientation,... Within a few days it should be possible to rule out technical fault as the cause of the disaster" .

17. #12 & "Ramon Crator"
Alan ,   Beer Sheva, Israel   (11.11.10)
The actual name in Hebrew is Machtesh HaRimon, in which HaRimon means "the pomegranate", translated directly from the Arabic. So much for your accusatory "aside".
18. Gesenius' Hebrew Lexicon says a betrothal is as binding as a
Rivkah   (11.12.10)
marriage. I would suggest a proxy marriage for the fiance so she can get widow's benefits. A girl I went to high school with was about to be married when her fiance died a day or so before the wedding in a motocycle accident. A judge performed a proxy marriage for the sake of the unborn child. If the fiance has had a sexual relationship with the pilot, a proxy marriage should be performed to protect her virtue since she is indeed a widow because a betrothal is as binding as a marriage to ha'Shem.
