Iran may be right on its assessment if they look at Israel's performance in its wars with Hezbollahtan and Hamastan. It took Israel more than a month on the war with Hezbollahtan with no decisive victory in sight. And it took about a month for Barak to deal with a midget Hamastan with no clear victory. And Hamas is still in power. If this is the way Israel performs in future war, I am afraid Iran's assessment is right. The only way Israel can reestablish its deterrence is to perform or outperform the victory of 1967. This requires brilliant, strong and decisive military and political leadership.

The term is Guerilla Eric, not Gorilla. Although asthetically and mentaly parallel in the case of Hamas/Hesbollah, they are not the same.

Israel does not have the population base to take on a country of 70 million, conquer it, occupy it and search it for hidden places. And Israel's military is unwilling to take the casualties necessary to route out Hamas and turn even Gaza into a place governable by anybody in a democratic manner that would require consent of the governed. Some day there will be a lessening of testosterone levels in the region. Probably not soon.

Saudi Arabia and Egypt ,the two big Sunni powers in the region have just concluded joint military exercises with the intention of showing the Shiite madhouse just what it can expect if it tries another Saddam Hussein tactic of the 1990,s Gulf war ,so the Shiites need to watch their backs 24/7 what with a large US armada off the Persian Gulf and Sunni allies ganging up on them ,watch out Ahmadinejad ?

russia only announced the cancelling of the s-300 contract a month or two ago, and yet the mullahs are supposed to have developed and deployed a replacement already? it takes years to develop a new weapons system, or even to reverse engineer one. so the inevitable conclusion is that either the iranians are engaging in "rebranding" (with russian collusion) to circumvent the sanctions (as they have done in the past), or just bluffing. the real threat to israel would be a genuine homegrown system, which wouldn't be ready for years, but which also wouldn't have the (known) weaknesses of the russian system. once again, the mullahcracy is fixated on mahdaviat, and doing its utmost to bring it about.

I'm inclined to agree with you. Pussy-footing around and worrying about collateral damage is not how war should be waged. Particularly in the case of Israel, where there will be massive condemnation no matter what.
