1. If NCIS wants to be really daring in programming, they
Rivkah   (11.21.10)
should show who the real criminals are in the US Navy: the senior enlisteds and senior officers are up to their eyeballs in graft. Notice how so many of them take military industrial complex jobs after retiring as a reward for something skulduggerous they did while on active duty? I was vilified long ago for trying to stop the graft. The XO of the Clinic at Miramar Naval Air Station (now a Marine Corps Air Station) near San Diego would try to fill a shopping cart full of prescription medicines to give to his pals and he called that comshaw. I would not allow it and was attacked and vilified as if being honest and protecting the taxpayers assets was a crime. So I was replace with a Navy pharmacy officer named Ray Gentry who was willing to go along to get along by allowing the XO (Bill Strnad) his shopping cart expeditions filling that without authorization from the MD CO of the clinic, robbing the government and not getting charged for it. I left active service after one three year tour of duty since honest people were not wanted in the Medical Service Corps of the US Navy. My husband was hardworking and honest, too, so he was attacked with perjuries, too, and was not promoted to senior ranks because he was not a criminal.
2. Yeah! you go girl!
(11.21.10)
Congratulations on landing such an amazingly wonderful role!
3. Article fails to mention that one character is "ex Mossad"
Eric ,   Tel Aviv & NY   (11.21.10)
They seem to forget that Israel gets a lot of coverage on the show with one of the key team members being Ziva an ex-Mossad agent who has taken US citizenship. This means that we have several Mossad and terrorist stories a season.
4. Aiding the demonization of Israel in the US
Keren ,   Haifa, Israel   (11.21.10)
NCIS is a popular series with a large viewership in the US and, no doubt, worldwide. Unfortunately, one of its main on-going storylines is the portrayal of Israel and Israelis as venal, corrupt and unscrupulous. They are not to be trusted and, often, turn out to be the bad-guy terrorists. One of the main characters is an ex-Mossad agent, the daughter of the corrupt head of the Mossad, who has seen the light, joined the "good side," and become an American citizen. She works to stymie the evil plots of the Mossad. While I don't believe that portraying Israelis as criminals in fictional dramas is necessarily political, when it is the consistent storyline since the series' inception - it does seem more likely than not to be the case. This also seems to blend seamlessly with the way our enemies portray us in the foreign media. Why would an Israeli actress cooperate in attempts to delegitimize her country? Why is Yaron Lichtenstein of the ADD agency so proud of this complicity in our destruction?
5. Living in a "firgun-less" society is sometimes frustrating!
Sally Forth ,   Jerusalem of course!   (11.21.10)
Firgun, a free associative definition: to give praise to someone else in an unrestrained manner and to be happy for them when they achieve something good Of the 4 TBers here only one of them TBer #2 does that. The other three TBers each go on a side angle free associative rant about something or other (mostly other) and mostly negative. Then its a wonder to all of us that guests to our country like Lara Berman with her "That's Israel" blog item (see Ynet's Culture section from last week I think its still up) see only the negative! Come on people...Sarai Givaty and the ADD company have a hit here...they got to a top USA show and that's a really good thing! In other words people: Whatsup with all the whining and complaining in the TBs?!
6. Is NCIS making amends?
Raymond in DC ,   Washington, USA   (11.21.10)
Yes, Sally, we want to offer congratulations to another Israeli "making it". But will she be taking part in the show's Mossad bashing? It was always curious, given the wealth of beautiful, talented Israeli actresses, the show chose to go with Argentine Cote de Pablo. After portraying Mossad as willing to leave one of their own to rot in the Sudan (and be saved by NCIS) and subsequently declaring Mossad "not one of the good guys", I was forever turned off to the show.
7. #5 - Success at what price?
Keren ,   Haifa, Israel   (11.21.10)
I am offended and wonder at the motives of those who portray Israel and Israelis as cold, robotic, evil, unscrupulous assassins and terrorists. You have only to look at the way the character of "Liat" is being introduced - cold, boastful, calculating - with no spark of human warmth. Considering how we are portrayed in the world's media and the way our enemies use everything to their advantage, even fictional TV programmes have consequences.
8. Negativism...
Michael Davison ,   Ra'anana, Israel   (11.21.10)
Ladies and gentlemen: Remember that NCIS is fiction, not fact. The script writer's premise that the head of Mossad would be allowed to appoint his own children as field agents stretches reality beyone the breaking point, anyway. Assassins ARE cold and sometimes inhuman--otherwise they are dead assassins. Does anybody think Ian Fleming's basis for the James Bond character was "Mr. Nice Guy"? Raymond from Washington-- Cote de Pablo is from Chile, not Argentina. Rivkah--Your life has been so eventful and full of incidents like the one you describe here, you must be at least 250 years old to have seen so much evil. Why don't you get a life?
9. Raymond
Ralph Levy ,   USA   (11.21.10)
I decided to watch the next two episodes to see if NCIS does make amends to their strange anti Israel stint last year. I too boycotted the show, but for years actuality I thought mossad was treated as one of the good guys. NCIS Los Angeles last week had the German Intelligence service as a bad guy so have to keep things in perspective. I may join back watching the show if I see Ziva wearing her Star of David again. http://ralphsrant1.blogspot.com
10. #8 thanks 4 pointing out that this is FICTION!
(11.21.10)
11. to #10 this show is pelgiarism of CSI
ghostq   (11.22.10)
the original show is lame, I saw a while ago some big named producers talking about this type of shows, just let you know that this shows consider as joke, in hollywood and outside holly wood, sadly the masses used to reality junk that they forgot what is reall good tv shows, everyone remember "TWIN PEAKS" that was a master piece from the best kind, there were others which I can't recall at the moment, so you see you can dis this lovely lady(i am sure she is very talented), and I think she should chose her shows better.
12. NCIS is the only show that portraits Israel positively
Dr. Mudkips   (11.22.10)
NCIS is the only show on american entertainment TV that portraits Israel positively. It is literally the ONLY show that treats Israeli security problems as a serious matter demanding a heavy handed approach (as evidenced by last week's however absurd episode with palestinian terrorists), and consistently takes pro-Israeli approach, rather than the usual bashing and cheap puns other shows usually do. Yeah, Ziva's character is too cool and Liat's character is too calculating, but it's better than nothing. Imagine what'd happen if leftists' - I am sorry - "progressive" - shows like the now demised Boston Legal which became a mouthpiece of the leftwing publicists in its last season right around Obama's election - were to tackle Israel and Israeli counterterrorism and foreign policy. Besides, NCIS is one of the longest running shows on television and the longest running show on CBS. It is extremely popular, and the positive image of Israel is broadcast to millions of fans. It is a spin-off of JAG (and now has its own spinoff, albeit horrible).
