I have a lot of sympathy with those who despise the haredim. I am a jew but I have more in common with non-jews than the haredim. Haredi beg at your door but will they ever help a secular jew? No chance. The haredi are only for themselves, I'll never help them.

I wonder why the daily terror letters, threats, and harassments don by Orthodox Jews in Israel and abroad against Messianic Jews, Conservative Jews, and Reform Jews as well as seculars are not making it to the news…. And just for the record - in Israel, Haredim dominate in all aspects of charity and welfare organizations, be it food kitchens, interest-free loans, and numerous fast response rescue organizations - all staffed by volunteers. From my familiarity with the UK, the Jewish community there operates in much the same vein. And generally, those aid and rescue organizations don't really differentiate between Jew and non-Jew when giving aid. You, sir, are projecting - attempting to justify your hatred by saying that the "other" is the one hating you in that manner.

There's plenty of disagreements and arguments between Orthodox Jews and non-Orthodox Jews, as well as Jewish-born Christians - particularly those, considering that they tend to insist on "spearing the word" while pretending that their Christian beliefs are accepted Judaism... But from that to threats of violence? Meh. Please, do show us the evidence, though I doubt you have much.

Having spent many years living among Israelis, my feeling was that if there was ever a resolution to the conflict with the Arabs, the next "war" would be between the secular Israelis and the ultra-Orthodox...and this was years before the Haredim had garnered as much power as they have now. But you could see the almost visceral antipathy between the two groups and the justifiable resentment on the part of that overwhelming majority of Israelis who aren't religious yet were being told how they can get married or how they can be buried.

The good folks of New York wouldn't take to providing welfare support to those whose only occupation is "Torah study". I don't care for the hate, but haredim are bringing this upon themselves. Shirking the responsibility to defend one's country or earn one's daily bread, enforcing gender segregation on buses and public performances, "modesty" patrols and the rest.

The episode described in this article is a manifestation of events which have transpired over the past decade. Although I would never condone violence, the effect on immigration, conversions, marriages, burials, rituals (Shabbat, The Wall etc.), defense and economics from policies and decrees by the orthodox have finally caught the attention of the average Israeli. The scariest part of all is that all of Israel's enemies are salivating at the prospect of the State's destruction from within. If you are truly from the "secular left" (analogus to non-orthodox in North America), I would strongly suggest that you organize to take back the State soon for yourselves and the rest of us (we, here in NA, don't have the vote) If history repeats itself, then Ancient Israel is one part of history we should quickly learn from.

on the one hand you talk about how holy the haredim are and on the other hand the article above this one on the website speaks of how the yeshivas used fake student ids to steal millions from the Israeli govt. Then it seems you equate financial success and the fruits of it with being sinful. It seems to me that all people are people. There are good and bad among the "holy" and among the "secular". The real sin is the failure of the Jews to unite against the real enemies they face.
