61. I'd be suspicious of Nicki, too (and her story)
Sue ,   Los Angeles   (11.22.10)
Amsterdam is a center for Islamic terrorists. That is where Dutch filmmaker Theo Van Gogh was assassinated by a jihadist: shot 8x with a gun, partially decapitated and stabbed in the chest with 2 knives. Pinned to his torso was a note threatening Jews and former MP and author Aayan Hirsi Ali. Three other points: 1. Friends of Israel do not buy or wear keffiyehs. 2. Law students should know how to spell or use spell-check ("Arabic DESCent" not "dissent"). 3. NICKI IS EITHER A COWARD OR A LIAR FOR NOT GIVING HER LAST NAME. How do we know she is who she says she is, and not an active member of some anti-Israel group? Without her full name, she and this article have no credibility.
62. security
David ,   Brooklyn, NY   (11.22.10)
I remember years ago I was leaving Israel and the agent wanted to know why I had visited Israel. I replied "you invited me." She looked at me a bit incredulously and asked "I invited you?" At this point in a loud and probably a bit obnoxious voice I started singing...come to Israel come stay with friends. She quickly ended the interrogation obviously embarrassed. As for #1 Omri's comment Your one word comment shows both a lack of sensitivity as well as as lack of maturity and intellect. Israel needs all the friends it can make and by acting in such a unprofessional manner the agents are causing a black eye for Israel...as do you.
63. In 2006, I was treated much worse at Atlanta Hub Airport and
Rivkah   (11.22.10)
I will avoid that airport if it is at all possible. I was not taken aside as she was. I was told to take off my shirt in front of all the people in line and in the room and put my shirt on the conveyor belt with me standing there in front of everybody in my underwear. At least at Ben Gurion Airport, I was taken to a room to undress and have my garments checked by a female, not a Black male TSA security screener like at Atlanta who wanted to humiliate a White so he could go home and brag about White genocide which will be next on the Black agenda. Don't think so? Consider the genocide of Whites by Blacks in many African nations. Sadly for the security voyeur, I asked YHWH to avenge me and Atlanta is in a recession now and in a terrible recession now when before I was offended at the airport Atlanta was a boom-town economically. YHWH always avenges me when I ask Him to. No one without a professional medical or nursing license or marriage license has the right to see my body unclothed without YHWH avenging me. If the screener had been a female who took me to a private room like in Germany and Israel, that would have been more appropriate and I might not have asked YHWH to avenge me.
64. wah wah wah. me me me
Mr Bubbles ,   Haifa,Israel   (11.22.10)
Seriously has this woman ever heard about the pregnant woman who almost blew up an ElAl plane but when she mentioned her husband was a Palestinian that they went through her stuff and found a bomb in the suitcase. She had no idea! The Palestinian man used her! So it's not crazy for your Arab sounding friend to set off alarm bells.
65. Why do you need an explanation?
Norwegian Citizen ,   Oslo, Norway   (11.22.10)
You're not entitled to an explanation - no one is! The security personell has it's reasons to why/why not they check this passenger and not the next one. It's their job, and they don't have to explain anything to the passengers. Imagine if they did explain why to the passengers: before you know it some terrorist would hear about it ('cause you know you would tell your friends, which would tell their friends, etc, etc, etc.) and get to know the security personells work methods and have the upper hand. Your not entitled to any explanation - and it's in your own interest not to get one!
66. On behalf of Israelis, Nicki, I deeply apologize.
Tahl ,   Ashdod   (11.22.10)
After hearing of your ordeals, I can hardly blame you for feeling the way you do toward Israel. I too, wouldn't want to return to a country that treats me in such way. Sadly, this is not the first time I hear such story from an Australian, and it really frustrates and infuriates me to learn that well-meaning visitors to my country are receiving such humiliating treatment. With all due respect to security, it looks like some of our officials have a lot to learn regarding civility and basic human dignity. That security guard with the Keffiyeh story, sounds like a total idiot to me. And still I can only wish, Nicki, that you wouldn't let this bad experience taint your opinion about all of us here... I also find the talkbacks here disgraceful. Of course, security measures are important, and Nicki acknowledged that herself. But security needs are no excuse for treating someone degradingly and humiliatingly, and providing no explanations, let alone a small apology. And no. The fact that in American airports security guards act just as badly, does not make it OK for us. On behalf of Israelis, Nicki, I deeply, truly apologize.
67. GET OVER IT!
Sheik Rattle & Roll ,   USA   (11.22.10)
I am an American and I travel in and out of Israel at least 10-20 times a year and I go through some tough questioning and a few times while in Europe I had to go through the luggage and strip search detail and I never complained, however a few months ago traveling to the States from Ben Gurion I wasn't questioned and just breezed by security like It was 10 years ago in the States and then I happened to see a security supervisor who recognize me as a frequent flyer that always jokes through the procedures and I said to her hey "SOUP" you are slipping and I feel naked they didn't question me or others thoroughly enough so tighten up because I don't feel secure unless you do your job. The moral of the story is get used to it we live in tough times and the more you go through it the more secure you feel.
68. who cares
dave ,   safed israel   (11.22.10)
Yeah , tough luck. You were profiled with the bad guys. Too bad. Who cares, Why publish this junk?
69. 32 Omri- you missing the point. No one questions
Dave   (11.22.10)
the need for security but the way is is being done and conducted. The term ugly israeli is not not just an invention created out of thin air, this type attitude is the cause but i do not expect you to understand or relize it.
70. Not the checks but the comments...
PAOLO O. ,   Ramat Gan, IL   (11.22.10)
.... of many "proud Israeli citizens" makes me think that the security did it the wrong way. I fully understand the need of security checks before boarding a plane, especially Israeli ones. I write about military and defense at national level, so I am fully aware about procedures and reasons of those procedures. The only thing Israel and airport autorities are FULLY DEFECTIVE is the way they apply those procedures: approximatives, rough if not uneducate manners. You can search, you can question, you can check, you can be really determined in doing it all, but until brute force is needed, you MUST be gentle and polite. Why? Because in THAT moment, in the airport, you are REPRESENTING ISRAEL. And if you are unpolite, rough, using uneducated manners, people think that Israel is populated by unpolite, rough and uneducated people. If you don't mind is ok. But after, dear Israelis, don't cry that reception abroad is bad.
71. My big disappointment at Ben Gurion Airport is that the secu
Rivkah   (11.23.10)
security screeners did not want to listen to a detailed explanation for every medicinal I had in my luggage that I was most eager to lecture them about. Aw shucks. They xeroxed a few bottles of Cellfood, etc. that I brought for the family and physicians of Ariel Sharon to give to him to reverse his stroke. That is the 1931 Nobel Laureate formula for reversing diseases by raising lymphatic tissue oxygen levels to 14 ppm for 30 to 90 days. But no one listened, try as I might to help a beloved one of ha'Shem.
72. Securtt check
Amerdane ,   Aarhus, Denmark   (11.23.10)
To all you morons that are poking fun at the story. : I can tell you a couple of things about the Security folk at TA airport. !1- i was detained because my surname was similar to another person even though my first name was different and there were some 20 years of difference in age, and 2 the crudity and their behaviour was so arrogant that it make you feel like punching them in the noise- Why can theyu be sent on a course to learn how to be polite or will it make them look to sissy.? There is a beautiful Spanish saying - Ser ccortes no te hace menos valient, which translates as" Being courteous won't make you less brave"
73. Silly girl- missing her already
Harvey ,   London   (11.23.10)
What an asinine article and how come so much air time. Is she so unworldly and out of touch that she fails to understand the threat to all the world airlines from Islamic terrorists with Israel being at the top of the hit list. Is she unaware of the Irish girl who was sent ahead by her Palestinian boyfriend who duped her into taking a bomb in her luggage even though she was several months pregnant with his child . It was only through passenger profiling that her story gradually came to light . My son has just jetted off to Australia for the ashes series .If this is an example of the Sheilas he is likely to meet , I hope for his sake he gets very drunk .
74. # 66
Atheist Turk ,   Germany   (11.23.10)
Hello Tahl. As a froeigner who has visited Israel twice, I can understand Israelis and their security concerns. There are a lot of terrorists, especially Muslim-born oneĀ“s, who want to carry out attacks against Jews. It is very good that Israel has strict security rules. It is for my safety as well as for yours. But the way how the checks are done and by whom vary. Some persons are friendly and show that they are only doing their task. They wish you a pleasant flight and appologise for any incovenience, while others start swearing at you in Hebrew. I think both sides should care more about each others problems. The Israeli wants to have security, while the passenger does not want to get humiliated. Even if the security staff is more powerful it should not misuse its power. Greetings
75. She prefers to be blown out of sky by her arab friends !
Jaacov Baumann   (11.23.10)
If Israel never sees this girl again - its like missing Erdogan - good so ! Am Israel chai !
76. Only fly El Al.
Harvey ,   London   (11.23.10)
The reason for your story is the reason why my family will only ever fly El Al . We see it as an integral part of our travel arrangements .You see it as an imposition on your civil liberties. Maybe visit Iran or Saudi Arabia when planning your next vacation. Only bombs coming out ,never going in.
77. #66...Tahl
(11.23.10)
I'm not an Israeli,so I can't speak for them, obviously. I also doubt that you can speak for all Israelis.. These are normal security procedures, that in these days are the norm, thanks to a certain type of people....and we know who they are. I find your talk back,as you said..disgraceful. As for the poor, humiliated Aussie woman....take a bus, baby!
78. #66, thank you!!!
Michael ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (11.23.10)
I consider myself pretty right-wing, but I've been hearing too many stories like this, and it really upsets me. Someone having a Muslim colleague or friend shouldn't be reason to strip search them. I understand the need to check people's luggage, and sometimes thoroughly, but along with it should come some sensitivity, and that was clearly lacking here. The security folks in these positions need to remember that they work for the people, and not the other way around. They should be treating the taxpayers and tourists, who are responsible in large part in paying their salaries, with respect. This is far from it. I am also quite disgusted by many of the insensitive comments here which seem to condone what was done here to this woman.
79. The security rap
Mike   (11.23.10)
i'd like to know what happened with her valuabels, especially her Credit cards. She wouldn't be the first one who lost money from her bank account after her stuff was searched by security or army personnel in Israel let alone laptops, cameras ...
80. #16 I agree with you 100%
Sarah ,   Israel   (11.23.10)
El-Al: Wish to take away a laptop? fine but explain the procedures. Wish to apply full body search? fine, but again., explain, be kind, curtious and with more RESPECT and DIGNITY!!!!! Are we asking too much????
81. well...
DB ,   Israel   (11.23.10)
being that she is going through security with an Arab head dress and just came from visiting Arabs in Holland, the clear conclusion by any rational human being is that at the very least she sympathizes with the Arab cause and probably should be searched.
82. Security with respect
Gav ,   Melbourne. Australia   (11.23.10)
Israel has a tough time with its image. Whether you like it or not, every El Al questioner is also an ambassador. It is unacceptable to treat people like garbage in the name of security. Stripping a person of their dignity is unnecessary. Security can still be effective with having to be complete sh*ts to people. Think about how each person treated this way views Israel.
83. The reason she wasn't answered
Daniel ,   DC and TA   (11.23.10)
Security requires an understanding of how a terrorist (or innocent) responds to uncomfortable situations. Not providing her with information and watching her reactions helped to determine her threat potential. While she was waiting an examination of everything she was traveling with was carried out. This was due to previous attempts to use westerners as innocent transporters of bombs. By examining everything including pictures on the computer and phone, security can develop a profile not only of the passenger but of associates. Security is the number one priority. If this woman doesn't wish to undergo such scrutiny she should avoid travel to Israel especially on EL AL. I would venture to guess she has managed to now be placed on a list of passengers requiring extra screening. Her purchase subsequently almost assured it. It was like screaming I support terror. It was a foolish thing to buy after her initial entry caused such an extended screening. The only thing EL AL and security did wrong was not to try and placate her when it was over. The delivery of the tea might have helped
84. Security Did a Great Job!
M. Duvduvani ,   Yokneam, Isr   (11.23.10)
I will sleep very well next time I'm on a flight to or from Israel knowing we have such professional security people. Of course you are going to get stopped and searched when you fly out of Israel when you say you are on your way to visit your friend "Jihada Abu Abbas" with a Keffiya in your suitcase. Stupid girl!
85. so dont go
ghs   (11.23.10)
to the armpit of the world. and tell everyone else you know not to go too. you'll see all these people who write "it's those filthy muslims' fault, not ours" turn to "this is blatant anti-semitism!" very quickly.
86. same experience but deferent opinion on the subject
Emanuel ,   Argentina   (11.23.10)
You know in one of the visits I've made to Israel, I had a similar experience, a full body checking, but even the experience unpleasant I agree with the our comes, I don't have anything to hide and bottom line every time I have the chance I prefer ELAL it makes me feel safer. So Israel don't give up on your high standard on security. Bothered tourists, go to Dubai or Saudi Arabia and lets talk about that later. Am Israel Hi!
87. You're story is nothing special...
Elliot ,   San Francisco, USA   (11.23.10)
I was profiled for wearing a Metallica shirt with skulls on it. You just deal with it and be thankful. I'd much rather be searched and uncomfortable than blown up!
88. Airport security
Hassan ,   Haifa Israel   (11.23.10)
Hello young lady, i am an Arab citizen of Israel. i often go to visit my brother in the USA. I only travel with EL AL because they have such good and strict security. I would rather get properly searched than be blown up. By the way, try getting in to the USA band going through their security, if they have the slightest suspicion.
89. #3 and #52
valleygirl ,   Palmer, Alaska   (11.23.10)
#3 - Yes, profile, profile, profile! Don't let Muslims/Arabs use transportation other than their feet till they bring their fanatics into line. I'm sick of their "peaceful" religion. It's high time they were made to tolerate the rest of us! #52 - come through US airports with an Arab name/Arab garb and you'll be treated with the utmost respect and dignity by Obama's Gestapo. They're more worried about American service members, conservative Christians who wouldn't hurt a fly and Grampa with his prothesis than they are real terrorists. Last, but not least, Obama and liberal Americans are no friends to Israel. Pass that on to your liberal Jewish relatives here, please.
90. # 72 Denmark
Yossef ,   Staesboro/Rehovot   (11.23.10)
