1. Milking two cows ???,...
split ,   US   (11.22.10)
It wouldn't hurt to take a second look at their records in US - After all most of them came from US and hold US pasports ,...
2. XII Commandment "You shall not steal"
Moshe   (11.22.10)
It would seem that while our Haredi friends were busy rioting over Jerusalem parking lots being open on Sabbath and demanding segregation on public transportation, they were themselves ignoring the equally important XIII Commandment in order to line their own pockets. How Shameful. If found guilty, which it looks like they will, the organizations involved should be liquidated of any and all assets needed to fully pay back the state, and then permanently cut off from any future government funding.
3. Are there any hasidim/haredim out there that actually work??
david ,   manchester   (11.22.10)
4. Chilul Hashem
Ellen ,   Israel/USA   (11.22.10)
As an Orthodox Jew I am embarrassed and ashamed this Chilul Hashem. While those involved may have considered themselves to be Chareidi , they are no more Orthodox than the pig wallowing in its' sty. Orthodoxy, adherence to Hashem's law is more than dress and Kashrut. It is a way of life and a following of laws. WE are obligated to follow the din of the land!
5. god told them that stealing from a jew is a "mitzvah"
jo   (11.22.10)
The state will never get the money back. Have the cops uncovered any accomplices in our govt. Never checking anything for years. And for this we paying our fat bureacrats, sitting in oversised chairs, sipping coffee all day while cashing their fat checks. In every country there are criminal elements who cheat, steal, lie, and worse. Our crooks happen to be in the haredi class : the super bums, the super chizlers par excellence, the super " ganavim " god's preferred sons. Wortless crap brought into this world so they can steal and rob fellow Jews. Just what their torah commands them to do. -- I want to vomit.
6. 5 - so they can steal and rob fellow Jews ,...
split ,   US   (11.22.10)
What about the biggest racket in human history imposed on US goyim by "kosher nostra" ??? ,...
7. If I think about the fact
Gabor Frankl ,   Budapest, Hungary   (11.22.10)
that a letter writer in JP told that less than a month ago he saw a homeless man dieing from hunger, no less!, in the streets of Jerusalem, then I like jo also want to do that and one's blood is boiling...
8. They also used them to vote ...
Moshe ,   Argentina   (11.22.10)
They also used them to vote ... I once overheard some Haredim discussing how many times they had voted..
9. Thieves
Alon Frank ,   Ramat Beth Shemesh,I   (11.22.10)
This is why I don't want to be a Chareidi. I have seen to much stuff around me from them. I prefer to stay National Religious. Shame on them!
10. The 'Light Unto Nations' has gone out...
Edithann ,   USA   (11.23.10)
The Haredi stole all the light bulbs... Hahahaha.... TATA
11. #4
Joe ,   Toronto Canada   (11.23.10)
As a Conservative Jew I smirk with tougue in cheek that some of "your kind" are up to this. It's not unusual for a self-righteous group to think and act like they are above the rest of us. You may think you are better than the majority of world Jewry by declaring that you strictly adhere to Hashem's law, but these acts you claim to be ashamed of, coupled with the way you treat your fellow Jews (both inside and outside Israel) and non-Jews alike, dictate that the Orthodox need a lot more soul searching and slicha then the rest of us mere mortals.
12. The tipoff came from Neturei Karta
Michael Davison ,   Ra'anana, Israel   (11.23.10)
Interesting that the initial tipoff came from Neturei Karta. At least they have the courage to stick by their principles and not accept state aid while they reject the legitimacy of the state. Yes--some of the Haredim do work, and do very good work: Yad Sarah, Ezer MiTzion and ZAKA, just to name a few. I am not Haredi, or even particularly religious, but I do respect those who do whese good works. Don't let a few thieves color the entire Haredi community with the same brush. I have my own issues with them, but would refrain from generalizing and calling all of them thieves. This bunch should have to pay back every penny stolen, with interest, serve jail time, then those with foreign passports should be deported as undesirables.
13. They are entitled
Loyal Jew ,   Israel   (11.23.10)
The secular govt. denies Torah the support it's entitled to. Then it accuses Jews of "stealing" what belongs to Torah to begin with. For shame.
14. More religious values from the chariddem
Avi ,   Israel   (11.23.10)
And dont forget folks its your tax money these parasites are stealing. They must be having a good laugh at our exspense, all you have to do is dress up in black, then claim the moral high ground, dodge the IDF draft as they are just to holly to defend our country, sign up to the social security , conveniently paid for by those nasty secular people, raise 10 kids to become parasites and all this for free, while those nasty secular people work their butts off to pay for it all.
15. #13 Loyal Jew obviously confused
Haim ,   Tel aviv   (11.23.10)
You see in order to take out you have to put in. So therefore they are not entitled to anything. How strange charidem abroad work and study and contribute to the society in which they live. Here these free riders milk the system dry with out contributing a thing. Hate to break it to you but the state of Israel is a democratic country not a state run according to Jewish religious law. My tax money pays for their lifestyle, should i follow their example and steal as well. Gee i guess you never heard of "Thou shalt not steal'?
16. Jail the lot of them !
Avi ,   Israel   (11.23.10)
I hear Shas has its own prison wing these days , which is just as well with all those Shas MKs serving jail time, im assured they will be served 3 kosher meals aday and plenty of time to study, hopefully for the next 20 years. They can start learning the Torah again starting with 'Thou Shalt Not Steal"
17. #13 - You are embarrassing
Shalom Hartman   (11.23.10)
As a Jew who tries to follow the Torah to the best of his ability (note I do not use terms to describe myself such as hareidi or ultra-orthodox), I think that your post is no less of a chillul Hashem than the arrest of these thieves and con artists.
18. Am I smarter than the Israeli government?
Bunnie Meyer ,   Los Angeles, CA USA   (11.23.10)
For two years I gave money to a rabbi who seemed genuine and sincere in his quest for money for his yeshiva. On my next trip, I "visited my money." I met him at the yeshiva uninvited and yest there were students there and yes the building needed repairs. If I could come and "visit my money" surely the government officials in Israel could do the same when millions were at stake. If you close your eyes, you are enabling a person who might skim a little here and there into bigger and bolder theft. Stealing is stealing, but in this case the government was helping in the theft by NEVER "visiting their money."
19. every group has thieves
quote-Berel Wein ,   israel   (11.23.10)
the torah is perfect, but people are not - Berel Wein
20. Why did it take so much time...
Q. Freitag ,   Switzerland   (11.25.10)
... to discover? And into whose pockets the monies went into? Was it really criminal intention or did it just happen because of opportune circonstances? Are the accounts replenished enough to reimburse the total sum plus interests? -i am not convinced that the degree of religiousness should enter into consideration here, it is more a question of human behaviour.
21. Why should the rest of Israel pay for their jail and meals?
exUK ,   Tel Aviv   (10.23.13)
They should be expelled from Israel completely, and leave the long lived Arab population of E Jerusalem and elsewhere to live in peace. This lot make me ashamed to be Jewish.
