Basic Israeli response to the student's actions follw the same old tired line: First: Deny the humiliation and brutality exhibited daily at the checkpoints. Even when pictures, documentaries and human reports from those same checkpoints show waht is going on daily. Including, but not limited to, reports from Machsom Watch, Peace Now, Breaking the Silence. B'tselem and scores of independent observers. Second: Excuse the humiliation on 'security' grounds. It doesn't matter how unjust or arbitrary the treatment is, 'it keeps us safe'. Of course internal checkpoints within Palestinian areas don't matter, neither do the other apartheid restrictions on an oppressed and occupied population. After all oppression of the Palestinians through evictions, settlements, stealing harvests, taking land and other natural resources is all fair for these Jewish ubermenschen. It makes Israelis 'feel' good and therefore is acceptable. Third: Attack the messenger. She must be 'sick', a 'self-hating Jew', a 'leftist' or pick any other ad hominem attack on her character or truthfulness, and therefore is undeserving of belief. It doesn't matter whether or not her words and actions are truthful, she must be discredited for who she is. As long as Israeli Jews refuse to see the hatred and injustice their actions engender, and instead rely on the old hoary cry of 'antisemitism' whenever their perpetration of unjust actions are uncovered, publicized and/or criticized, their credibility is diminished. At one time, such a whine would dissuade critics. No more.
