Teaching other countries our security measures gives indications to terrorists.

Why not hold a trial program in one airport which doesn't yet have the scanners installed. They can evaluate how its works out, see hoe much it costs and then if the scheme works extend the test see how it works on a bigger scale. Robert Gates said himself the US has 450 airports so it should be easy enough finding an airport where to hold a trial program. At the end of the trial if its considered finaincially and practically viable then introduce it nationally but if not then continue with the scanners & pat downs. Financially it cost very little to start the pilot scheme other than training the security people at the airports to a higher standardt.

"Private parts touched" I am a frequent flyer from & to Israel & in all the years of my travels I have NEVER had my private parts groped, touched or searched. The plane that was hyjacked to Entebbe was Air France, not El Al.

Tahl ,   Ashdod   (11.24.10)
So I'll try to restate my main points. Criminal record or suspicious connections are not enough to screen terrorists by. Sadly we have witnessed many times cases where Israeli-Arabs with previously "clean" records, were involved in terrorist attacks. And historically, most airline terrorists boarded the plane without the authorities suspecting them. This is where profiling enters. As I said, statistics don't lie, and this method has proven quite effective here. And apparently the Americans think similarly with regards to Arabs in airports. You could say that the policy of subjecting Israeli-Arabs to more thorough checks is discriminatory, and I would agree. But the harsh term "racism" simply does not fit in this case, for the reasons I stated earlier. Still, a more thorough check certainly does not justify a rude and humiliating treatment. Just yesterday I wrote here a heartfelt apology on behalf of Israelis, to a tourist who was unreasonably harassed by the security guards upon coming here. And if you feel like you've been humiliated too in the airport, then as one Israeli citizen to another - I am very saddened to hear this. Security checks must be conducted thoroughly yet respectfully and sensitively. Maybe after many years of peace here, profiling would no longer be necessary. Inshallah.

The only racism exists in Gaza, Ramaleh, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, etc. what do they have in common? All support Terrorism which is WHY the US and alot of the world had to beefed up the security. Until we see more Muslims condemning and turning these terrorists - no one is safe. PROFILING IS NECESSARY!
36. 450 airports
Amnon ,   Haifa   (11.24.10)
Why is it that no ne mentions the airports all over the world that have flights landing in Israel were israelis are the security people responsible and the metods they apply to passagers .Gibs is full of BS sayng that only at Ben Gurion this metod is working.
37. #15 - you mean the "truth" according to you?
William ,   Israel   (11.24.10)
Sorry, but the majority of people I've spoken to are perfectly fine with profiling and the Israeli model, and are very much against the intrusive pat-down model. Those who said yes to the Israeli model are those who admit they have nothing to fear as they've done nothing wrong. And those against profiling actually insist its "racial profiling" when infact its only behavioral profiling. So there are plenty of people trying to change the meaning before knowing the facts. Enjoy your anal probe at the airport Moise.
38. #17 - funny, I always thought those who want to kill us...
William ,   Israel   (11.24.10)
were racists...because they're mostly Arabs and their target is always Jews. You make it pretty easy to pick out who the bad guy is, unlike perpetrators of crimes in the US which is pretty heterogeneous. So far, I've seen minorities not only have full rights in court and daily life in Israel, I've seen them serve in our govt. That's pretty much on par with the US, don't you agree? When Jews begin bombing planes and protesting against the existence of the State and Jewish autonomy, then I'm sure we'll see a much more heterogeneous population being searched at Ben Gurion airport. But I'm not holding my breath.
39. #28 - while I feel your pain, I don't agree with you
William ,   Israel   (11.24.10)
I understand the pain YOU have to go through because of the racist folly of other Arabs that made this security so necessary. However, you circumvented the point Tahl made to you and it was that Arabs are more likely to perpetrate a terrorist crime than a Jew, plain and simple. Statistics prove this, as does the increased racist rantings of Israeli Arab MKs, and followers. Finally, there have been many instances sadly of perfectly normal people, without any history of nationalism or criminal background, who have performed an act of terror. So now everyone has to suffer. Israeli law DOES protect your right but your right does not include hurting another person or taking their rights. And yes, security is institutionalized because 7 million people depend on it. I am sure you wouldn't be so critical if you learned such measures (which you claim humiliate people) saved your flight from an immanent disaster.
40. #30 - they already do. Consulting is big business
William ,   Israel   (11.24.10)
Since 9/11, Israeli experts were called on to secure sea and airports all over the world. I know one was hired into Boston's Logan airport the next month following 9/11.
41. the day a jew commits suicide terrorism

in an arab country, is the day arabs will beg us for a peace treaty.
42. adapt Israeli security, they rather pull their teeth.
R.L   (11.24.10)
Americans always suffered from inferiority complex. No body does it better then them. Listen to any American president speech in congress and you will see the “we are the best” “we are the most enlighted nation”. Publicly to say we need to adapt Israeli security, they rather pull their teeth.

44. Irrelevant question
Serge ,   Antwerp, Belgium   (11.24.10)
The number of airports, domestic or international, is irrelevant. The right question is, what is the most efficient way to find out the one who is boarding in order to hijack the aircraft. Obviously, if you have more airports you will need more trained personel to carry out the security check. Th Israeli model is to look for suspicious people, and not for suspicious items.

True, although every piece of luggage a passenger has, goes through an ex-ray machine, whether it is placed in the hold of the plane or taken on board the plane.

You remember when an IRISH pregnant woman was captutred in London flying to Israel with bomb. Her Arab boyfriend was involved. How discusting this animal was prepared to sacrifice his unborn child.
47. A plaigerized joke that should become reality
Froike ,   Brooklyn NY   (11.24.10)
The Israelis have developed an airport security device that eliminates the privacy concerns that come with full-body scanners at the airports. It’s a booth you can step into that will not X-ray you, but will detonate any explosive device you may have on you. They see this as a win-win for everyone, with none of this crap about racial profiling. It also would eliminate the costs of a long and expensive trial. Justice would be swift: You're in the airport terminal and you hear amuffled explosion. Shortly thereafter an announcement comes over the PA system . . . "Attention standby passengers we now have a seat available on flight number XYZ101. Shalom!"
